Barrel Wobble - Need Shims
 

Hey Guys,

I have a King Arms Troy A4, with some barrel wobble.
I took off the barrel nut and found 3 of the barrel shims.

I think I could use a couple more, but unlike the aftermarket RIS kits KA sells, I didn't get any spare shims.

Anyone have any they can send, or know where I can get them?

3 shims are supposed to be enough.

The shims are there to stop the barrel nut before the end of the threads to align the notch in the nut for the gas tube. Not for tightness.

It might not be the shims. Is the Barrel adjustable? If it is that its the adjustable part thats causing the wobble. I have a king arms 14.5 inch barrel that wobbles as well.

It's not the shims, you need to tighten it up more. If it's difficult for you, get a barrel nut wrench. If it's difficult, use a longer wrench (either use a real m-16 armorer's wrench or if your barrel wrench has a 1/2" drive, attach a spanner to it with 1/2" drive); or clamp the upper receiver in a bench vise and re-attempt.

Either one of these will surely work but both of it will be much easier for you.

If you need need barrel or even flashider shims, measure up your current shims, go check a local hobby store. They're called cylinder head shims, originally made for nitro RC engines and come in a variety of sizes as RC engines come in many sizes, usually about 3 bucks for a pack of 6, and they're high quality.
Just try not to get sucked into the world of RC....

So back to this.
Finally got in a new outer barrel (replacement) and I still can't get the barrel nut locked down to the receiver (outer barrel still wobbles).
It seems like the barrel nut is bottom-ing out before full securing the outer barrel (hence me asking for shims).

Local hobby store (PM Hobby) didn't know what I was talking about when I asked for cylinder head shims.

The guy at the hobby shop probably only have RTR trucks then.

Any company that makes a motor has them. Can be OS, Force, Picco, RB, Orion, Losi/Mach, HPI etc. .21/.25 shims should do the trick.

They can be copper (usually are) and it will work anyways.

just make them. it's really easy to do. Use plastic from packages like those used for tooth brushes. Make a bunch but you'll only need 1-2.

Gave it a go. Ended up with 2 of the original shims, and the plastic shim. Barrel nut can now lock the outer barrel down to the receiver. Zero wobble. If the plastic eventually fails, I'll track down some proper shims (or cylinder head gaskets as they're also called).
