How often to clean?

How often do you have to oil-up, clean, lube, etc, your gun? (say you play 6 hours every Saturday only)

That meaning, completely opening it up, and doing it piece by piece.

Once a year, unless you have a tokyo marui, then once every 2 years or until you notice it doesn't shoot as well as it used to.
However you should ideally clean your barrel after every game (if you have a tightbore), once a month if you have a stock barrel.
Pistols should be relubed once a month, whether you used it or not. Run a mag through it once a month during the winter to keep everything lubed, and store the mags with a little bit of gas in them.

Depends how obsessive compulsive you are, I find.

If you happen to have a lot of spare time and just want to always have a nice cleaned out mechbox, I'd say go ahead and do it after every game if you want to. Within my team i offer to clean out entirely the mechbox, make sure shimming is right, and then relube everything with white lithium grease. Although this isn't needed, some people just prefer it. After every game I clean my mechbox entirely. White lithium grease isn't expensive, you can buy it in a 200g squeeze bottle for like $5-$10 I believe? That much also can last an individual person who cleans their rifle every week a fair amount, let's say 6 months to a year as long as you're not plopping it in there.

Whether you're obsessive or not, as mentioned above, you should always clean out your barrel after (and before if you're that concerned) every game. If you don't actually have barrel cleaning rod, just get a metal coat hanger, fold over the tip enough so it can fit without causing a tight fit, and wrap some soft kleenex around it and give it a couple good pass-throughs. I personally do that, as well with dipping the other end in candle wax so when it passes through entirely you don't risk it scratching the barrel.

Rotting, that's a little.....excessive.

I didn't clean out my AUG (even swabbing the barrel) for a year or more and it was perfectly fine. Also depends if you're playing in a really dusty area. Then you'd want to clean out your barrel more often

But cleaning your mechbox out every game? That's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much.

Hey I'm unemployed, obsessive compulsive, have a lot of time on my hands. That and I'm just always more comfortable knowing my rifle is as good as the first time it fired completely cleaned and redone up. Keep hassling me and I'm never buying an SG556 from you :P

Edit: As well with dusty areas, muggy areas (forests) get a lot of gunk in my barrel (No smartass comments Styrak).

Yea, but you use element parts and say "They're just fine"

Depends how many rounds you go through and weather conditions.

I would clean GBBR after 10 mags.
Pistol after every game.

This is why I switched from AEG to GBBs. :)

when I start noticing deterioration in performance, however long that takes.

I just clean my inner barrels after every game.
