Raymond tang.. In trouble or virus?

I recieved this email from him... Real or fake? Anyone else get this?

Quote:

Hope you get this on time, I'm writing this with tears in my eyes and it has left me in a devastating state. I am in some terrible situation and I'm really going to need your urgent help. *sorry I didn't inform you about my trip in UK for a Program, I'm presently in UK and am having some difficulties. Well we actually got robbed in the Hotel I booked in and they made away with my wallet (which included my cash, diaries and credit cards). My cellphones were not brought *along since I did not get to roam them before coming over. The phone cables have been burnt including the Hotel's database has been compromised as well. So all I can do now is pay cash and get out of here quickly.*

Please I want you to help me with a loan of $1,750, just to clear my Hotel bills and get the next plane home. I had been to the embassy and they are currently looking into my case, I need you to locate a Western union money transfer outlet around you where can kindly transfer the money to my name and with this address below,

NAME- Raymond Tang.
ADDRESS- *8 Godliman Street
Zip Code- EC4V 5AJ
City- London
Country- United Kingdom.

NB: The Consulate only cleared me of my traveling documents and ticketing since I came in as a tourist and not on official purpose, I was told that Western union can be located at Banks,Post offices and some other local stores too. Please be rest assured that I shall have your money reimbursed immediately on my return.*

Thank you so much,Please once you are done sending me the Money please help me scan a copy of the Western union receipt or help me write out the transfer details below to me as soon as you are done sending the money.

Sender's Name:
MTCN Number:
Amount Sent:

I am almost impatiently waiting for your reply.*

Hope to hear from you very soon.

Raymond.
I think virus..

thpethalK April 27th, 2010 09:18

Who is Raymond Tand?? I thought 007 was Ken...

Looks like either a virus or scam, the grammar is horrible.

Corpo April 27th, 2010 09:19

Ok I am totally mistaken about the 007 airsoft part. He is really Raygis LasVegas. My bad. Still well known in the boards. Mods can you edit the title?

If you bought from him before you probably got this email

CDN_Stalker April 27th, 2010 09:20

It's a scam, ignore it.

And yes, 007 is Ken.

Zeonprime April 27th, 2010 09:23

I think Ray would likely contact someone a little closer to home if he REALLY needed to ask for money :)

This type of thing has been a reported scam by police services for years now. Scan your computer for a virus.

EagleDriver April 27th, 2010 09:25

This is a classic "friend in trouble" scam where someone poses as a friend or associate to get the money.

If it were real he could just get replacement credit cards in 24 hours. In addition, the Consulate in London could give him a temporary loan to get back home.

Corpo April 27th, 2010 09:27

Not my end.. I'm operating from a iPhone. Clearly I jumped to conclusions. I wouldn't have sent money anyway. But hey. Forums are for answers right? Thanks.

Corpo April 27th, 2010 09:28

Banana the thread!

L473ncy April 27th, 2010 09:53

Didn't Drache or someone also have this happen to him like a year ago? One of their friends was supposedly on vacation in Las Vegas or something and "got in some trouble" and needed bail? Yet he would have phoned and secondly they saw them a few hours ago.

I suspect it's a virus autoposting on Facebook and sending phony emails based on info gathered from the computer.

TechSeller April 27th, 2010 10:54

Crap! I just sent the $1750

You too? I just emptied my account. Oh well...there's my good deed for the day.

The Saint April 27th, 2010 11:15

Isn't Raymond Tang actually Raygis LasVegas?

DuffMan April 27th, 2010 11:23

It's probably a coincidence. Raymond Tang is generic enough a name...

If it actually is Raygis, tell him I want my $100 back first.

warbird April 27th, 2010 11:27

My friend got scammed with Western Union, this is a scam too :P

Scarecrow April 27th, 2010 11:47

Help guys, I am trapped in Thailand in a hotel with 15 gorgeous (female) hookers and I've run out of cash, send money right away!

Signed Scarecrow.
