What part is this?
 

Hey folks, so my gun seized up a a while ago and I just finally got to cracking it open the other night. Turns out some screw came lose in the piston and had lodged itself in the spring causing it to jam. After removing the screw and putting it all back together. Myself and Styrak were both a little curious to what this part was.

After we had the mechbox reassembled this little piece fell out of the front of my mechbox by the air nozel. We tried and we looked but we could not for the life of us figure out where it goes or even what its function is. The part itself does not appear to be snapped off of anything, its solid and smooth and shows no sign that it is broken.

My M4 usually fires a vey consistent 320. But after we put it back together its firing well below 300. Im not sure if there is a air leak somewhere or what but thats not what Im posting for, I need peoples input on what this part maybe and where it came from.

I think it is the little plastic filler that holds down either the red or black wire in the mechbox. If I remember it right it just sits on top of the wire in the bottom back corner (or it might be the front side) to keep the wire from getting pinched.

I don't think it's essential (i.e. won't blow up anything if it's not in there) but keeps the wiring tidy.

They get flipped out by the wire when the mechbox gets opened up.

Anyway, just my guess, the pictures are a little fuzzy.

My camera has difficulty focusing on things that are very tiny. I used a deck of cards to show relation in size as I could not find a quarter in my house for the life of me. Its quiet possible it could be some form of wirehold. I'll add that to the list of things that it might be.

What brand of M4 is this?

You should pull the cards out of their box and display them on the table, then I could get a better view of the plastic piece.

That piece is used in front-powered Armalites and its purpose is to hold down the wire that travels from the mechanical trigger switch/circuit to the motor grip hole closest to the rear of the gearbox.

Run the wire to that rear hole, and place that piece in to the rear most channel/wireguide so that the "Y" is upside-down and pushing the wire down. It keeps the wire clear of the spinning pinion gear / motor head.

If you still can't figure it out, I can try to find a picture for you.

Well my TM M4 has been rewired to the rear. So its not really front powered.
Hmmm well I may not need that piece after all since we managed to get all the wires to stay securely away from the gears. A picture maybe helpful but I believe I should be able to figure it out.

Just to be clear, its its not totally terrible if I dont put it back in correct?

Well according to what Illusion says, if you don't have it the motor might eat your wires. But you might also be fine without it.

Bah remeber where we had the wires sitting? It should be ok. But well we can put it back in, that way I can watch you fiddle with my anti reversal latch over and over. That sounded more sexual than needed, but its still funny.
