Yes I'm a newb

I'm looking to get started out in this 'sport' and am having a bitch of a time finding anything that resembles a airsoft gun or a group to play with. I'm located in Regina SK and for some reason the only guns I can find are the clear plastic ones that look like they would break in a week.

I have a few friends who are intersted as well but one of them has told me that its impossible to find one of the better guns right now as most stores online told him they have none in stock.

Regardless, I was wondering if anyone might give me a bit of advice or a nudge in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

The best way to get a gun is to get Age verified and buy a used one from the classifieds. (you have to be 18 to get verified)
This should answer a lot of questions you might have

If your from regina contact the guys at PDWsquad.com. They have pretty clear age rules, if you're under 16 forget about it, 16-17 it's still hard. But, they're a great bunch of guys to play with, they know their stuff.

I'm 29 so age should be fine. And Cushak, how big of a group do you play with in southern SK?

Cushak June 21st, 2007 16:13

Well the weekend before last, we had a a big operation (the once in a while games that are more milsim based, complex rules, teams firesquads etc) the weekend before last, and about 40-45 people came out. Just skirmishing days can be anywhere from 6-30. AFAIK, all the players here are great people, we never worry about intentional cheating or general being an asshat, and it's everyone's willing to help you out with stuff.

As far as looking for guns, for the next little while you'll be able to rent/borrow, as lots of guys have many guns.

Here's the main boards for Southern Sask:

www.southsaskmercenaries.com

www.pdwsquad.com

Both have a classifieds section, once you get age verified, you can look for guns there. (contact Arnisador on PDWsquad, or here on ASC, he does it in Regina I believe).

Welcome to the sport!

Best place right now is from the classifieds man.

Cushak

You have done well young Jedi :)

white...if you can provide a couple pieces of picture ID, we can get you age verified and then you can check the classifieds as people have pointed out.

But please do a bit of research too...there's a nice FAQ section for basic info on the game as well as a team section showing potential players in your area.

It's funny the difference in treatment older newbs get compared to the younger ones...

My hypothesis:

Kids suck!

whyte_knite June 22nd, 2007 15:17

On another note... whats a good gun? I was thinking an M4 but I would like accuracy? As well having never had one, would it be easy to modify myself? And I've been told that Tokyo Marui is the best maker but is there a follower up in that category?

Desmodus June 22nd, 2007 15:34

Yea, Classic Army also makes really nice m4's and m16's. They are full metal and have tons of upgrades available for them.

whyte_knite June 22nd, 2007 15:41

Oh I know about the faqs, and I'm not trying to bother anyone. I jsut figured that I would talk to the actual people cause it would give me a better feel for it. And I wasn't sure how old the faqs were. I'm also fairly newb when it comes to weapon types, so a lot of it doesn't make sense to me. :P

Airsoft science and mechanics are fairly timeless, so if you go and read up on how airsoft guns work, it'll give you a good idea of what to look for.

My m16vn TM is a solid AEG that has never
given me any problems and stock it
shoots at 290 fps.My CA m15vn(m16)
is also trouble free and it shoots at
310 fps stock.My TM M14 is also
stock and it shoots at 290fps(I use it as a rental)
and it has never given any trouble.
All three have the same range and
handle about the same, but the M14
is heavier.

nic_s June 22nd, 2007 16:29

The TM M14 has greater range than the M16VN.

If you are willing to pay for a new one ($550 and up). Look at Canadian retailers on the top of the page. Anderson & Anderson Airsoft has many guns in stock. He recently restocked Classic Army M14 Match. He also has a cheaper Chinese AGM M14 in stock. Some Classic Army M4/M16 variants are still in stock too.
