Soda straws + Glue + paint = Killflash!

Finally got around to this minor project, works pretty damn good and doesn't obstruct the view by much at all.

Interesting Idea Mike....Good one mate.

CDN_Stalker February 18th, 2007 15:54

FYI, I cut the lengths to about 1/2" each, then glued with instant glue and kept one end of it on a flat surface so that at least one side looks flat (the other is pretty jagged since scissors and straws aren't consistant together). Also, I fitted the honeycomb bundle inside my flip up lens cover so when I switch between the sunshade and the scope itself the killflash goes with it.

Considering doing the same for both my MP5's RDS scopes with flip covers too. If I go for it, will post the pics as well.

Thanks Bry, have fun with the frustration of attempting this project! ;)

Im just in the process of pimping my M14 and was looking for something just like this to put on the scope.

FOX_111 February 18th, 2007 16:28

I had the same idea, but did not wanted to do it. Is it solid? That's my main concern.

CDN_Stalker February 18th, 2007 16:33

I can poke it relatively vigourously with my finger and it doesn't budge. Obviously a BB at close range will fuck it up, but I assume it can be either removed and a few pieces replaced/repainted.

Bry, you bugger, you got an M14!?!? If I were to buy another AEG, it'd be an M14! Then again last year I said the same thing, ending up with another MP5 in my lap instead. Hey, can't argue with free!

ROFLMHO. That is brilliant.

Wasn't near a Harvey's yesterday when I got those, I was considering where to get black straws from like they have at Harvey's, but smaller ones. I may grab some from Harvey's though and give it a try, but still think they are too big.

Well, its Midnight Sat Night, and I got annoyed with my sewing machine breaking needles. And since my brothers drank my beer ((f***ers)) I had to go looking for something to do!

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture129.jpg

And since I planned to do this to another scope, decided why wait to see how easy this is. And it is.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture128.jpg

Very easy indeed. Now, there is one thing I was happy with, and that this is a red dot scope, so I figured this would blur the sight so that it was too hard to focus. Well, it didn't muck it up too bad.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture133.jpg

Granted trying to sight one eyed it looks very fuzzy and hard to focus, but I ussually shoot with both open anyway.

All be-it that even those this is set up as a mild sniper platform, it is still intended for lil more up close and personal so the kill-flash might come off anyways. Still was easy and fun to make.

Kick ass idea Stalker!

EDIT: ACH! DIET PEPSI SHOWN!... MUST EDIT!... No wait!... Um... yeah... I ran out of regular... **shifty eyes**... ((only the ones that know I am a pepsi addict will get this))

That's why I didn't bother making ones for the RDS on both my MP5s, since there is no magnification the honey comb really screws up the sight image. The honeycombs for Aimpoints I've seen are a finer honeycomb, maybe that's how to best make them for 0x zoom. With a magnified scope you don't see the honeycomb at all!

Hey Drach, sidenote, why is it just about every pic I see that you took, your feet are in the pic? I mean, I'll see a half dozen pics of yours, and there are about 4-5 of them with your barefeet in them. What's up with that? Lol

Anyways, am heading back to the workbench to aimlessly screw around with assembling the M60. Slow and frustrating!

Very cool both of you, are those straws actualy glued directly to your scope? if so which parts, and if it is, im guessing its not removable.

You know, my grandmother used to bitch at me cause I hate socks. I would run across the yard in bare feet if I was just running over to her place ((this is when I was a kid)) she always said I was going to get a whicked cold... Heck, I still go outside bare foot every now and then. That, and I just take shots straight down so you don't see my messy work area :P.

Like I said, I keep both eyes open anyway, even on a sight with magnification ((unless we start getting to ranges of 300 yards up, but even then I tend to try and keep em open)) and like so doesn't affect my aiming ability.

Also, I was just having fun :P.

Oh, Renegade, mine is not glued to my RDS. I made it a bit "fat" at the edges so that I just take a pair of tweezers and squeeze the straws to fit tight against the walls. It stays there pretty good, and if it falls out? Meh, it cost me ONE straw to make it :P.

CDN_Stalker March 11th, 2007 17:36

Mine is friction/compression fit, I can remove it if I need to (saw a BB gets stuck in it or damages it enough to obstruct the view.) Only glue I used was to hold the straw pieces together.
