Insane shipping cost.... *Rant alert*

I don't know what Optics Planet think fabric is made of, but apparently a
vest,
pair of boots
ESS goggle
double pistol pouch
belt
dump pouch

would cost $160 for a USPS Shipping, or $190 for Priority. What do they think fabric are made of? Lead? I honestly don't think you need to have 4X area of packing peanuts for this. (Mt laptop package had 1:10 ratio of packing peanuts...its a year and I still use em to ship out goods...)

And yea, I choose UPS Saver for half the cost of USPS express (Priority is $6 off, hopefully like the site said using higher end UPS I can avoid Brokeage) (I know about them, but lately I'm really pissed off at Canada Post for saying twice they deliver my package and the third time saying my address doesn't exist when I can see it from google maps.

Sorry I just have to rant cause this is unbelieveable.

CDN_Stalker October 2nd, 2009 07:32

Likely a brokerage fee added in there. I bought my leather A2 flight jacket from the US in 2002, was just under $300, our dollar was worth about $0.62US back then, so ended up costing $500 by the time it showed up at my door via UPS................. and they billed me about $108 brokerage fee in order for the box to be placed in my hands. Highway fucking robbery, I didn't even know and luckily I had some cash kicking around.

Rookie Ab October 2nd, 2009 07:53

A tappet plate from UK, 13 pounds Sterling, was charged 15 pounds to ship. Visa shows up, I have a 51 dollar tappet plate. Ya robbery.

Blackthorne October 2nd, 2009 08:05

vest,
pair of boots
ESS goggle

Go to a local MD Charleton or R. Nichols and buy this stuff off the rack bro...jesus..

Mist3r.B October 2nd, 2009 09:15

Try buying a set of v2 gear on Ehobby or Redwolf. Shipping is actually more than the initial cost. For 3 little metal parts.

Or wort a 16$ pouch with 21$ of shipping.

Makes me mad!

ackbar October 2nd, 2009 10:50

It isn't just the cost of shipping. It is for them to "handle" your item (dump it in a box and then slap a shipping label) that is costing you.

I've found recently that most places are jacking up S&H to boost profits while "appearing" to be low cost. It really grinds my gears.

I recently paid extra to have my items handled into a shot up box by a local retailer. Boy was I pissed. I really don't care if they reuse a box but DAMN at least make it presentable. At least he taped it to shit to make it structurally sound.

Had I been around to sign for the package I would have down right refused it and asked for a refund.

Not likely. Brokerage fee when shipped via USPS is $8, and is never charged by the sender. It is charged by Canada Post on behalf of the CBSA when it gets turned over to our system at the border. It is a flat rate $8, regardless of the value of the package.

Private carriers (such as UPS, FedEx, DHL, TNT, Purolator, etc) are more expensive.

Kokanee October 2nd, 2009 13:41

@kullwarrior - Dave's tactical is in BC and most likely carries most of what you are looking for - optics planet is indeed a shitty place to order from, try and keep your dollars in country if you can.

Evans October 2nd, 2009 14:41

I had to pay $15 shipping for a $12 spring not too long ago. It weighs a fraction of a pound, but I still got fucked.

smith October 2nd, 2009 14:59

USPS/Canada Post are usually a bit better when it comes to brokerage, but you still get the shaft. What's great too is most of the sites you get murdered on shipping to canada offer FREE US shipping.

That's why i'm glad i'm only 45 minutes from the border. I order all my stuff from the US, ship it to the closest UPS store (5 minutes from the border), and drive across and get it myself. No brokerage, 5 bucks at the store to pickup the package, some gas money and pay bridge tolls and tax on the items and i'm back home in under 3 hours.

Any time the shipping looks nuts, i won't buy from that store. Sometimes you can find a store that charges more for the part/piece but they charge less for shipping so it works out in the end.

Heck, i gotta go down to snag some coil springs i ordered for my dads car soon.

kullwarrior October 2nd, 2009 16:32

Lol folks I order from optics planet because it is better than Canada retailer who Jack up prices 2x from the 2008 amount (2009 catalog had alot of the gears I purchased at 33-66% of the 2008 ones)

mcguyver October 2nd, 2009 16:37

Kullwarrior, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You might be saving on the item, but you'll pay it in shipping. Drive 10 minutes to P&D or Drop Zone or even go WEM and I'm sure you'll find all that you want, get it same day and not have the headaches.

WOW costed me 35 cent or so to ship a spring recently...

Styrak October 2nd, 2009 16:39

Well, you have a choice. Order from Canadian retailers who might have a higher price, or order from overseas and pay more for shipping and gamble on paying taxes and brokerage.

kullwarrior October 2nd, 2009 16:59

Also there's the factor of i want blackhawk stuff and Canada doesn't have much choices

Don't buy Blackhawk then ;)

We do carry some Blackhawk though.

Bissa October 2nd, 2009 22:55

I believe it was tiger direct that this happened on, but one of my friends was going to buy a $21 computer fan and it was going to cost $76 for shipping.

kullwarrior October 3rd, 2009 17:54

figured out why Opticsplanet charged so much with USPS:
They calculate every good seperately, aka if you buy 10 different pouches, the system is thinking they're sending 10 packages.

Anyways, I didn't know ESS prevent US dealer sell internationally (ESS themselves) so my order from Opticsplanet is cancelled. I took on Camstick Canada instead since my $100 off coupon is working once again (for 6 months camstick was offline and my coupon only have 1 year)
I'm still kinda fussy that no one in Canada has the ESS Tan Turbofan, and the fact its like $40 more expensive with shipping factored in.

Sorry I'm just sold by its price and the quality. (The fact that I want a unholy crusade on China also comes in play)

UPS is a rouge criminal organization run by the Russian mafia in co-operation with Al-Qaeda, the CIA and the FBI....and MI5, and the creators of Toy Story.

Brokerage fees are pure bullshit. It's mind blowing that companies can be allowed to shaft you like this....just because they can. Back in the day it may have been all in the name of fair trade. But in the internet age, a guy showing up at your door and demanding a hundred bucks or you lose your shit (which you couldn't have got any other way) is not really fair or negociable.

I will say that probably the best hands down for ordering anything online I've seen is Tiger Direct. $3.99 for regular shipping on anything. My laptop earlier this year came in a box that could have easily held a whole desktop rig. Only cost me $3.99 and I got it in like 2 days. For some reason they use UPS....but they've got them bitch slapped or something cause they haven't tried to pull any shit on me. Aside from being complete morons and leaving a box that says "Best Computer Deals Anywhere" in my fucking driveway and walking away....

Be glad, CP had at one point left a Remington 870 12 Guage shot gun at the door at once despite the package was labeled firearms, 18+ signature required. Ammunition also has be heard left that way.

The majority of Blackhawk gear is made in China and Vietnam.

You need to buy Tactical Assault Gear, High Speed Gear, Blue Force Gear, Tactical Tailor etc. if you want quality and not made in China.

Rookie Ab October 4th, 2009 09:26

Kull ,these are in country.

I run this Turbo fan and they're on the shelf in town here.

I dunno man.... UPS left $2100 of stuff just sitting there. If it were a gun, I highly doubt it would have made a difference.

CP left my SAW at my door despite it being 'signature required'. I checked on the online tracking, and seems the delivery guy signed my name and left it. Gotta love CP contracting out deliveries to the lowest bidder.

Eeyore October 5th, 2009 17:32

Didn't someone post in the " I hate CP" thrreat that CP left an AR 15 as well as a few hunfred rounds in someones driveway? If they are negligant enough to leave a firearm and ammunition unattended when they are clearly marked why would anyone be surprised about anything they do?

Boomshakah October 5th, 2009 17:48

Last winter, CP Knocked on the door, and by the 5 seconds it took me to go up the stairs, I saw the CP truck leaving my Driveway and get stuck in the snow. At least I catched my package when I went helping him.
