What's dry shooting?

And is it bad?

Strelok August 7th, 2009 18:47

Dry shooting is basically shooting your gun without ammunition in it. Its bad, yes. But i'm not sure how really. Thats all I can say.

Jimski August 7th, 2009 18:50

it's bad on some real pistols because that can break the firing pin.
On AEGs it's bad also because there's no resistance to the piston since there's no BB to push - therefore the shock is bigger in the mechbox frame.

Monsyphon August 7th, 2009 18:51

I see.
So dry shooting=mechbox will break?

Mitchell12 August 7th, 2009 18:53

It would still take a monstrous amount of dry firing to break it. Just don't intentionally do it all the time.

Monsyphon August 7th, 2009 18:58

Al so another question
What would be a good target to buy?
I have no idea to buy one.

Pop cans. CD's. Or even just cut a large square whole in a box and put a blanket in the back.

m102404 August 7th, 2009 19:01

Take a big-ish cardboard box. Stuff it with crumpled up bags, newspaper, rags, etc... Loose stuff, nothing hard that the BBs will bounce off of.

Put the whole thing in a big garbage bag (this helps trap stuff as the box/stuffing gets blasted).

Tape a regular sheet of standard letter paper onto it. Use marker/etc...to put dots/circles/etc... on it.

(hold an old CD on the paper and either fill the center hole with marker or a light shot of spray paint....makes perfect basement sized dots real quick)

Alright, cool.

Anyone know where to get some black spray paint and for how much?

Mitchell12 August 7th, 2009 23:12

If you think they might have spray paint they probably do.

Schlyder August 7th, 2009 23:20

dry shooting..... what you're doing after your vasectomy. Or firing your gun without any ammo. Either way, not a good thing. :D

That all depends how protected your target is doesn't it? You wouldn't want to shoot off all over an unprotected target.

This DIY bb trap works quite well:

Canadian Tire, Home Depot, basically any hardware store. For price, check on their website.

Rotting August 13th, 2009 14:55

Don't purchase the first can of black spray-paint you see. Make sure it's ultra-flat-black or flat-black. Krylon's Ultra Flat Black works very well. If you don't pick the right type of paint, you could end up having a high-gloss gun, and that's not very fun to carry around.

Actually, that's fine by me... I have my one kid. I'm all for shooting blanks.

Perhaps you should actually read before posting. He's not looking to paint a gun. Your advice, while correct, is meaningless in this context.
