The Ideal Charger
 

I'm posting this thread because I read everyone posting saying that wall chargers WILL kill your battery over time. Right now, that's all I've got. So I am looking at "smart" chargers on the interwebnets right now but I am not sure what to look for.

I've also read that when buying a charger, you shouldn't buy it from an airsoft store but a general hobby store. Is this correct?

You can get a basic smart charger on airsoftparts.ca for about 30 bucks.

Mainly what a smart charger does is automatically shuts off once you battery is done charging.

Those "smart" chargers are known as "The blue box of death" around here lol...

Sometimes they will just kill your batteries out right.

However I don't really have that great of a suggestion... Bolt actions don't need batteries lol.

Haha that's true. But I don't play many outdoor games so I don't think people would like me shooting them with an L96 at 20 feet.

I've used a VSR-10 indoors before (at 330 FPS, not with the upgrade cylinder in it lol)

The only reason I would want to use a bolt action rifle indoors (probably a K98 of some brand) would be the ability to easily attach a bayonet. Can you say "BANZAIIIIIIIIIIIIIII"?

ANYWAYS, is there any way around the complete murder of my batteries?

My "blue box" charger is great, I know a few other people with them, and they work great for all of us.

Got this charger about 4 years ago, never had a single problem with it. It still works great to this day.

I had one of those, it was great.

When I used to run NiCD and NiMH, I used a Duratrax Intellipeak Digital Pulse charge (no longer in production). Great charger, everything you need, never killed a battery in 5 years.

When I switched to LiPo, I picked up an Imax B6 balance charger. No complaints so far on that after almost 2 years.

Looks like 666 wins this thread. I can buy one of those a mile away from my house for the same $$$ as a shipped cheaper one.

I have one and those are AMAZING chargers.

Is the "DuraTrax Piranha AC/DC Digital Peak Charger" posted by 666 better than the smart charger at Airsoft1parts.ca?

I still have the charger from my RC car days. It's the duratraxx intellipeak ice and it can charge any type, any volt and any amp with adjustable charge rates too. Good thing I didn't sell it off cause I can use it now for airsoft. :D

this is what I run

got it ofcourse for my RC stuff... but it charges "EVERYTHING" nicad/NIMH, lipo, lead acid. smart charges, cycle/refresh... . but I beleive you have to buy the lipo cables, and the AC (wall plug in) cable seperately, even then it was still under $100 shipped for mine ;)

When I got into airsoft, I was surprised at how much it and RC cars have in common... Including high cost.

This is one of the best "Bang for the Buck" ones I'v seen. I'v been running it for almost two years and it's the same as the intellipeak "ICE" charger. Team Check Point TC 1030. It's not just a charger,but helps take care of your batteries. Nice thing being,same as the ICE charger but cheeper ;) I wish I had one of these 20 some years ago when I started R/C stuff. Not that it matters much now as 98% of my R/C stuff now is Gas lol.

It has a good balance between quality, efficiency and price. Of course a 200$ charger that can charge, discharge, condition batteries and all that is better then mine but my definition of "The ideal charger" includes price in it's criterias. For less then 70CAN$ I think that one is great.

I got a IMAX B6 charger for about 40$ from hobbycity.com, great charger, and it will charge about anything you throw at it (li-po, ni-mh, li-fe, li-ion, ni-cd, etc...)

one warning with those. if u charge a lipo make sure you have an inline balancer if the charger does not include it.
