ASC redirecting to Airsoft Retreat
 

Have had 3 people mention this to me in the last 15 minutes (pusangani, forever_kaos, and sanox), whenever they attempt to access airsoftcanada.com, they get immediately redirected to airsoftretreat.

I also heard it from an airsofter I talk to on MSN....in Saskatchewan.....

Maybe they all have the same father ISP and their DNS server is screwed up.

Yeah I'd think its a DNS resolving issue. Just had another local airsofter mention it to me.

I don't know if this is related but most of the site formatting isn't working for me, just the cell layout and general layout are the same. It's all grey and un-ASC-like :(

Same here, and it was redirecting to ASR for about 5 mins.

They are prolly getting SO many hits right now and just sucking in some extra $$ from ads. Maybe this happened on purpose?

I'm experiencing the same re-direct. Pretty puzzling at first...

Good to know it wasn't just me, the whole ASC looking weird with no pics and color, not the redirecting thing. I thought I was tripping, maybe made a bad quiche or something. Everything looks normal now though.

there seems to be some sort of glitch, I've emailed the admin at asr to see what's up. will get back to you in a few hours... hopefully we aren't hacked or something.

I thought ASC and ASR were pulling some sort of coordinated April Fool's prank (a couple hours early here).

Hello, just to confirm, when i click airsoft canada, I get directed to airsoft retreat, and when I get to airsoft retreat, it's bringing me to airsoft canada. But when i log in, it says thank you for loggin in, but redirect me as if i was not logged in. (even if it's the airsoft canada forum viewed from ASR)

The only way is to use the secure connection

well seeing as anyone trying to login via the www.airsoftcanada.com address is getting bumped to an unlogged-in page - I'd be suispicious

anyone else notice that if u goto airsoftcanada.com it redirects to airsoftretreat then asks for ur login info?

then when u give ur login info it says u logged in then redirects u back to an unlogged session

Know it sounds crazy and paranoid but if u've put in yer password and not been logged in - dont be surprised if ur account starts doing funny things lol :P

Hopefully it is just a glitch but in my experience with managing websites (fairly extensive), better safe than sorry haha

Okay so other problem I have heard about from another user.

He goes to login, and he does. Then gets directed back to the main page and it's like he never logged in.

He's deleated cookies, and no luck.

i had the same problem forever_kaos..... hes not on the right link cause i used the 1 that Drache gave and NOW i can log on.

This is a stupid prank to be doing, especially when there are retailers on this forum trying to sell products (And are paying monthly to do so).

lucky for me I was already logged in when I used the secure link....

and making people worry about account theft...

True but there are jokes and then there are things that sometimes cross the line....

Not impressed. Especially since there are retailers on here that have lost business for the past 4-5 hours...which could possibly mean hundreds of dollars of lost profit. The april fools thing about being owned by airsoft retreat was retarded, if that was true I'm sure there would be a mob of ASC users that would beat the owner of that website to death with his own keyboard...maybe a bit far, but he would definitely receive death threats, some bricks through his window, and maybe slashing of his tires.

I think it might just be an April Fools joke. wahhhh the suspense is killin me!

Yes it was an April Fools joke. All your passwords are safe and the way the boards work they won't accept data from domains they are not supposed to be on (which is why you were able to log on via secure). We've been planning it for a few months. It was supposed to be a round robin between 4 sites, Arnies Airsoft, NL Airsoft, Airsoft Retreat and Airsoft Canada. The admin of NL Airsoft had a death in the family and couldn't participate (our thoughts are with you Ronald). Because Arnies Airsoft is in GMT (London, UK) we started earlier, (it helped confuse people for a bit too).

I came up with the idea from the April Fools joke that XKCD, Questionable Content and Dinosaur Comics played last year. I pitched it to everyone else and they thought it was funny and epic.

The redirects were supposed to be going from Arnies to ASR to ASC, how ever some how Arnies' redirect wasn't allowing traffic to stop at his site so ASR and ASC pointed at each other.

The idea of ASR buying ASC well that was something adlibbed by someone else and I thought it was hilarious so I ran with it. I think Snicker from ASR had already gone to bed at that time.

At this point I've returned the ASC DNS entries to the proper numbers and things should be back to normal fairly soon.

I apologize to those of you that freaked out about the joke. There was no virus, no trojan, no hostile take over, your passwords and PMs are safe.


Jokes that got rejected: shutting down the site and saying that the RCMP seized the server - that's not going to happen, ever. Jarek from RedDragon Airsoft (or what ever it's called) buying ASC - I'm not sure I want to be responsible for what would happen to him. Airsoft officially banned, turn in your guns now - again not ever going to be an April Fools joke. There's others but they get less and less funny.

Yesterday, I tought it was one of those new ASC make over. I did not had time to look more into it. And since I don't go to airsoft retreat, I did not know of what they looked like. It fooled me for a minute.

Well I wasn't getting redirected, I was just getting Can't connect to input.. something like that.. well that was....fun...

No forum software was touched. The DNS servers were just set on a redirect - that has nothing to do with the content that is hosted.

I easily accessed the main ASC website (and read news of the prank on the main page) by going to the cPanel temporary URL since I didn't know about the SSL sub-domain:

http://70.38.64.109/~asc

BTW, I don't have access to the dedicated box itself, the cPanel username was a lucky guess. I hope your password is a random hash :S

I know this "joke" was DNS redirect. but at some point between 8-9pm last night and now all my PM's have been removed and it was not by me.

I'm looking into this but I can tell you that nothing on the site itself was modified for the joke, it was only the DNS entries.

I am fairly certain I had no sales PM's in there or anything like that so if they never come back it is not the end of the world. Just surprised me to see unread 0 total 0
