What are the BEST kneepads?
I'm looking for a set of knee and elbow pads that are comfortable, provide adequate mobility, and most importantly.....stay in place!!
Does such a thing exist? |
I have a set of ALTA Superflex Knee Pads and they're comfortable, have good mobility and stay in place fairly well.

I run a pair of CB Bijan's. They are the ones currently used in the sandbox. Very secure and they don't pinch the back of your knees, an issue with alot of the ACM brands.
|
i'm using hatch knee pads. its very comfortable but it needs to be break down.
but a lot people hated those Velcro straps |
I'm fed up with ALTA as well as HATCH and I want to try Bijan.
will it be sweaty? |
Alta ftw! Never had a problem with Alta Knee Pad
|
I've got Bijan knee pads and elbow pads. They are amazing. Other pads do really pinch the back of the joint. These do no such thing. They are very comfortable and they stay in place really well without limiting your motion or feeling too tight. Would definitely recommend them if you can find a pair.

Just don't get the Parklands cadpat ones. Utter shite. The 'rivets' popped off the first time I kneeled. I think a lot of other users had this same problem because I have seen tons of pictures of them covered in string and tape.
|
bijan, i swear by them
|
100% agree with ujiro on this one. The Bijan's wrap around your leg slightly above and below your knee, no pinching of any kind....ever.
I've worn them over the past summer on days when it's been 30 degrees and days when it was so humid a mist formed in the afternoon. In both situations they didn't make my knees sweat any more than regular pads. You obviously get the little bit where the hard cap is on any pads, but the additional padding above and below is breathable. Definately one of my better airsoft investments, considering you can get issued pairs from Jeroon for well under 50 bucks. EDIT: Didn't see that you live in B.C., most surplus stores should be able to source you a pair. |
Where do you guys get your bijan knee pads?
|
Got mine brand new from Jeroon. Cost maybe $60 for both the knee and elbow pads. Considering they were new though... Man. Money well spent.
PS, everything shadow_matter said there is gospel truth. |
I've got a pair of Hatch currently...they fall down and they're very uncomfortable. Tha Altas look very similar. Bijan it is!!! I can't seem to find any in OD?
|
Off to army issue I go!
|
Alternatively... Get some closed cell foam sewn into your gear!
|
Bijans +1.Its like kneeling on pillows. But from what I heard the military version of the bijan's CB has been discontinued. Please correct me if im wrong.Alta's also make a LOOK-A-LIKE.But they feel the same when kneeling.

i was always under the assumption that ALTA Brand Kneepads were the industry standard... as they should be cause the two pairs that i have owned have ruled (i sold the first pair to get a different colour scheme)
|
I hope the CB Bijan's weren't disco'd, I need 2 more pair for my team. I'll still find some used/issued ones, but nothing beats that new fresh-gear smell.
|
Bijans in all sorts of colours are pretty easy to find on eBay. I've owned them in woodland, universal and CB. While they're fantastic pads, I suggest trying them out against the regular Altas (not the lookalike-Bijans) for fit. I found that the Bijans had a tendency to slide down on me, while the Altas rarely do.
|
After my first season wearing combat pants with integrated pads I swore I would never wear a set of strapped pads again. The pads never fall out of place, and are a pleasure to rest your weight on. I have a set of the MC version ones from EBB, but I would pay the extra $ to get a couple of quality sets in various colors.
|
Bijans are nice. Much better than the hatch, or BHI, or ALTA. BUT, I fucking HATE how they need to be snailed. They also make the backs of my knees run like Niagra..

I enjoy Blackhawks hellstorm line of knee and elbow pads, their hardshelled knee pads are very comfy and durable.
http://www.centuriontactical.com/knee-pads.htm Instead of wearing their hardshell elbow pads , I actually opt for their soft neoprene version in OD. http://www.centuriontactical.com/elbow-pads-neo.htm I used to wear pants with integrated knee pads and yes they were alright, but I honestly prefer my hellstorms more. |
Arc teryx make a very nice, very articulate set of pads
|
+1 on the Arc'teryx knee caps.
|
In the defence of the Hatch, they are cheap and offer OK protection.
I'm using my pair since 2001 and I'm ok with them. If they are positionned and tied correcly, they don the job very well. They don't fall down on me too often and stay in place. The trick, like most of you know, it to attach the top strop loose (first velcro) and the bottom one tight. It won't pinch the bag of the knee that way and stay in place. And they look old school cool. |
Switched to hardened volleyball kneepads under my BDUs from crappy external kneepads.

I hate having something tight on the back of my knees. |
I wear a set of Hatch knee pads on occasion or when it's wet out. They are comfortable for me and only have minor slip/movement. Most of the time it's in my head cause when I tug them up, they don't move all that much. The plastic pad that contacts the ground is fairly large and lets you easily take a knee on just about anything. The foam padding is also good in terms of absorbing impact.
|
I don't know about the pads but I'm getting me on of those big black hats!
For me, I really like the built in Cyre type pads, they stay in place and don't have straps to chafe. I've got the Hatch ones too and haven't had chafing but then I do slide them down to my boot tops in off hours. |
