AUG Phantom Sniper

Hi,

I m considering building a sniper AUG for outdoor use, with semi only, running at 500 fps for sniper duty (ie a AEG pretenting to be an BA). In mind is accuracy and low noice signature.

I would consider the follwoing build:

Stock Marui AUG (black civilian one)
King Arms Light Weight Phantom Kit for Marui AUG Series
Angel Silent Head Set (For G36C/SIG/AUG)
PDI 01 6.01mm Precision Inner Barrel (595mm) for Marui AK
Systema All Helical Gear Full Set Super Torque Up Ratio
Electronic chip to configure on semi only
Spring to raise it up to 500 fps.

I would use cork and durabrand insolation material to reduce noise from the gearbox. I would also be putting foam in the silence (assuming it empty).

I would appreciate ideas and comments on the component/build proposed,

Thanks,

Bong

unless you are considering an external battery, you won't be able to crank a 500 fps spring with a battery that fits in the battery compartment.
Lipo maybe? not sure.

Crunchmeister January 19th, 2009 13:45

Lipo would probably pull that spring.

Styrak January 19th, 2009 14:00

Yeah you'll need to get an external battery pouch or something, with a large battery.

Long_Bong January 19th, 2009 14:07

I would consider Lipo, would lipo unit fit in the current TM AUG body?

Jimski January 19th, 2009 14:18

yep there's a thread about that I think

Thanks Jim, on en jase demain entre les games :)

This seems like a cool idea. Be sure to post pictures when it's finished!

I have a friend of mine who work in the music industry, he could have access to high end noise level measuring tool. If it work, I will do some noise testing as well (before and after type of thing)

What about a JG Steyr AUG A3 and a silencer, would this build make sense or should I go really go with a TM or CA?

JG's are good choices. It all depends on what you want or what you can afford.

Long_Bong January 20th, 2009 14:54

Are JG stock quieter then TM and CA?

Styrak January 20th, 2009 15:32

Don't know, sorry.

Long_Bong January 20th, 2009 15:59

Any one would know what silencer is used on this build?

I'd also consider the fact that an AEG is limited to 450fps on semi. No regular field will allow one at 500fps.

Long_Bong January 20th, 2009 16:05

Indeed, I m thinking more in the 400 fps range, would reduce noise I would said (lower fps = less mechanical effort = less noise) and allow full auto fire.

Jayhad January 20th, 2009 17:55

if you do the phantom kity there is more then enough room to house the battery inside the phantom kit.

You mean wired through to the front then a stick battery in the silencer or something?

LB, either way if you're going for 400fps, a mini will work fine. I use a 1500mah 8.4v mini in my 400fps TM AUG.

Sha Do January 20th, 2009 18:38

I hear ya FOX, but if some host decides to post a game with the FPS that high (and it happens), I'd be in like a .....any ways, yeah, that AUG won't get too much field use otherwise.

Absolutely. A stock AEG is always quieter than it's upgrade counter part. As is, an AUG is already reasonably quiet, and if you line the inside of the lower receiver with sound dampening material (available from any stereo instillation place, in many forms), it's possible to reduce the motor whine enough that a foam silencer would actually be benifical.

What about if one were to use the expanding foam in a can, would that be harmful to the mechbox, or any surrounding components? Would that even work at reducing the sound?

Wouldn't that seal the mechbox in? Or at least impede moving parts inside the body?

There's a lot inside an AUG you know.

MaikuKun January 20th, 2009 21:31

For sure it would make it quieter. Stuff that doesn't move doesn't make much sound! It might work if you could somehow make something to keep it from touching the mechbox, but that's a lot of work for something that might turn out to fail.

Long_Bong January 22nd, 2009 13:04

Corking material would make the most sense to reduce noise I would said, foam would be a pain to deal with when doing maintenance in the gearbox also.

Here is the shopping list I have in mind:

Jing Gong AUG A3 Electric Airsoft Rifle
Prometheus 6.03 EG Barrel for M16A1 / A2 / VN / AUG ( 509mm )
Systema All Helical Gear Full Set ( Super Torque Up ) for Gearbox Ver. 2/3
Prometheus POM Piston Head NEO
Prometheus Hop Up sleeve
Prometheus Nozzle
Systema Short Type Magnum Motor
Lypo battery (what model would fit)?
Modify non linear spring for 400 fps
Madbull Gemtech G5 Toy Silencer and Aluminum Tube

Would this make sense?

Would the Angel Silent Head fare well with 400 fps?

Sha Do January 22nd, 2009 18:58

The list looks good.
...And in terms of the Angel Silent piston head...I'm unsure. But what I can tell you is that the Angel silent piston head is apparently steps ahead of the Systema silent piston head (just ask ILLusion), and I've been running the same Systema silent piston head in my primary AEG for almost 14 years (was the second upgrade I installed in my AUG, torque up gears were the first).

Should run really nice.
