--stripping paint tutorial--
 

Hey Everyone!!! so before I sell my beloved gun...I decided to strip the shit paint job that was on it so that the next owner can get a more visual pleasing package....

So here is a tutorial on how to strip paint. TONS of Credit goes to Cheeseman since he helped me throughout the process..its him u see in pics and his hands lol

BEFORE GETTING STARTED:
make sure u have the following equipment
- Rubber Gloves for chemical washing, painting etc..
- cloth for taking paint off
- toothbrush
- wash basin or any METAL container (the liquid ure gonna use will eat plastic as we have experienced....)

#1 Get a Rust removal/paint stripping chemical liquid from local Hardware store and have it ready

#2 Dump half of the liquid (depending on the size of the container) into the container. Best way to judge on amount is that half of the metal body should be submurged in this liquid.

#2 Put the metal body in (in dissasembled state) and let it sit for 10 min on one side. Over time u will see the paint start chipping off, if it doesnt, THAT IS FINE. In ten min once u wipe it will easily come off.

#3 Flip to the other side once the 10 min is up.

#4 Grab the cloth and start wiping the leftover paint off.

#5 Once u did everything possible by wiping the paint off with the Cloth, take the toothbrush and brush in the parts the cloth couldnt get into.

#6 Wipe down the body and its pieces (if any) with dry cloth.

#6 submurge body in luke warm water in a bucket or anything u can fully submurge the body into. Keep the water running so it keeps filtering for about 2 min.

#7 Now, turn full cold water on and let in run for 2 min.

#8 Take the Body out and Dry it with CLEAN Cloth.

#9 Dampen cloth and go over the body, then dry the body with dry cloth.

#10 VOILA!!!! U R DONE!

We hope that This tutorial will help thoes ppl inquiring as to the process of remoing unwanted paint of their metal bodies/gun parts.

BTW those scratches were there before, this process DOES NOT scratch the gun or any gun part.

HOWEVER

If you want to clean straight to the bare metal, USE Superclean and it will clean everythin right off!!!

Or, you could just use SuperClean right to the bare metal if you want.

With the amount of latex we used in this process it could have gone to a better use to save hundreds of thousands of parents with their possible future accidents. BURDENSNIPER, too bad this amount of latex wasn’t available to your parents a couple of decades ago. :p

Then again, I'm probably a bigger failure to my folks. :/

DO NOT USE HOT WATER TO RINSE CHEMICALS

Hot water will cause the chemicals to evaporate in the steam, and it'll present a HUGE chance of inhaling some of it.

Easy there with the fonts, this isn't a poster competition. We didn't use boiling hot water to cause steam and evaporation. It was pretty much just warm water so the excess residue would come off easier in comparison to the use of cold water.

He's absolutely right. Especially with the types of things used for stripping paint. They will often have low[er than water] boiling points, so hot water from the tap is gonna bring that vapour out and pose risks.

EDIT: even lukewarm water will raise the amount of vapour coming off. The warmer it is the more vapour is going to come. Best to use cold water and try and wipe it off or something.

Please by all means enjoy your burning eyes and lungs. I know for a fact that the "Hot" water that comes out of my taps is enough to bring harmful vapors to such a point that they'll evaporate into the air.

I'm simply trying to help some people avoid a potentially harmful situation.

I've got experience stripping paints, and experience with solvents... That stuff is much more harmful than people give it credit for.

if i understand . my gun was painted whit spray paint buy the previous owner this method is going to remove the paint .. and will reveal the original paint job under ?

YES, but the "original job" is the factory color

Where can I find SuperClean?

But you say do not use plastic cause the product eat it, but the glove are made in what? Can those glove can handle that product?

latex (I think they stop making them with that material), or another type of plastic, they are used in Labs and Surgery....but I'm not sure how resistant to those chemical product they are...

but can't you see the pile of gloves he used for that project?

Another nub question:
Where do you put the liquid when its finish? Did it eat PVC??

So you can't use that stuff on plastic though?
Cuz I use Testors ELO paint remover and it won't ruin plastic or metal...

Unfortunately I didn't keep the pic of it after I removed the paint.

Super Clean won't eat plastic, but the stuff he's using will. And you can find Super Clean at Wal-Mart in the Automotive section (if they have one) it's in a nice Dark Purple jug and it has "Super Clean" written boldly on it.

Alright, do not use the gloves we used, since we had nohing else we used the surgical glove which the chemical tended to eat through:o SO, go buy normal heavy duty rubber gloves for this type shit from hardware stores.

the SupaClean was bought in Walmart in the paint section....there a few choices as long as it says Paint removal or anything with that combination u should be good!

dilute the chemicals in water and with tap running put it into sink...thats what we did and so far no holes in the bathroom plumbing ! lol

what about a power washer? lightly clamp it to something and blast the shit off. thats how i use to clear clear paint out of cracks from parts @ work after being treated with paint stripper........of course!

well the stuff we used ate away on a plastic contatiner, but i guess u can use ot on certain gun body plastics.

whoever used stripping paint material on Platic, please post something like: U can also use this on plastic, it is safe. etc..and state the brand name.

Today I buy some SuperClean at Walmart. I try to remove the paint but no result.
I try to let my barrel inside the liquid 10 minute each side. After I try to remove paint, no result
Same thing for 30min
Same thing for 1 hour...

I have some Krylon Flat Black paint over my factory paint. The liquid remove some Krylon but no factory paint....


I will try with some Lacquer Thinner, we will see what is the best. After I will try with the "Rust removal/paint stripping chemical liquid"

I give you more detail in max 1 week

PS: Don't use the bottom of a metal cookie case, the bottom is made of 2 piece of metal and they are not seal.... :P

I have do my homework and here are my result. I follow your tutoriel but I change the chemical product.

First, I use SuperClean. Not very good, remove some Krylon paint and a little bit of factory paint but you need to work alot. Some picture of the result:

Second, I use Lacquer Thinner. Very good! It remove Krylon paint very easily (I drop some Thinner on the toothbrush and brush the barrel, the paint was remove).
For factory paint I was only easy :P I let the barrel in the Lacquer Thinner 5-6 minutes each sides. After that I follow the tutorial.
One thing, the product don't remove orange paint, I need to sandpaper it ;)

PS: Use the Lacquer Thinner outside or in your garage cause it's smell very very bad.

Try Easy Off oven cleaner if you want to totally strip the paint. Safe on plastic.

uhm i saw u had scratches on ur gun
was that from using the tooth brush?

if u read, I stated that this process does not scratch the gun.

the scratches were there way before.
