M4A1 to HK416.
 

Some of you might know from my incessant ranting that I'm about to get a CA M15A4 RIS Carbine, courtesy of nwahs. I was wondering what kind of rail unit the HK416 uses, and whether it would be possible to convert the M15 to an HK416 by buying said part. One attractive advantage to this option is that the batteries of the AEG could fit snugly in the foregrip of the HK416, while the M15A4 RIS Carbine (Which resembles an M4A1 with an RIS and an extendable stock) would require a dummy AN/PEQ to hold the batteries, or a Crane Stock.

Teach me some terminology so I can further increase my military vocabulary, like the geek I am.

The rail on the HK416 front end will be much higher than your CA receiver, and will not match up.

Yeah, I guess that would matter. I'm scrapping the idea then. Just out of curiosity, though, I'd like to know what parts I need anyway. I might buy them one day.

EDIT: I'm talking about the receiver, the barrel, AND the foregrip now.

As Styrak pointed out, the rails wouldn't line up. Also, you won't fit batteries under a 416 RIS. It fits on there way too tight. That's why all the 416s on the market either come with PEQ battery boxes, or batteries in the crane or full stock.

Hmm. I saw this video on YouTube featuring the Top Tech GBB HK416. I just assumed the same was true for all other Airsoft four-sixteens.

You can buy the HK416 RIS handguard from Huang and while people here make a good point about the M15's flat-top receiver rails not lining up with the HK416 rails I believe you can screw off the flat-top rails on your M15A4 and install ones with the appropriate height. I'm unable to check mine right now, but when I got my Hk416 I remember the top rails had a little wobble and I had to tighten the screw from the inside. I don’t have much knowledge about the CA M15A4 (even though a friend of mine had a few), but if the top rails can’t be taken off then you can always look for a Hk416 upper receiver instead.

I've had the rail off my 416, and I don't think I could fit a battery in there except maybe a lipo. Seems this one is designed to have a bit more room in the rail system.

Not a HK416 per say but I did combined my Hurricane HK416 top (front rail included) to my G&P SR25 lower to make it into a HK417 the only thing is that the Hurricane top end is slightly diffrent in terms of material and the paint.

in regards to the battery unless you are running a Lipo you should consider one of the Hurricane 416/417 crane stock

Crane stock or full stock is the way to go. I installed a CA full stock on my 416 and run a 9.6V 3800 mAh battery. Originally it came with the crane stock. The gun is a beast. I haven't charged the thing in months and it's still shooting fine.

That much battery in the fore-end would make for a very hard gun to swing around. Now that crane stocks are available there really isn't much reason to put a battery in the fore-end. This is of course in my opinion, but I think most would agree with me.

Yes, the Hk416 handguard is quite solid and heavy and could off-balance the front-end of the rifle if too much weight is on it.

and remember, the body is plastic...too much weight in the front and CRACK goes the gunni....and CRY goes the player....

I don't think the weight of a battery could crack a body. Unless you're hanging a car battery from your rail system...

... Just think of the rate of fire...

lol What do car batteries have? Like 40 Ah? (40 000 mAh).... lol I think that would cause a time warp or something, and BBs that haven't even been fired yet would be shooting out of the barrel...

Just hide the battery in the "backpack" of ammo ;)... with tonnes of ammo fed up said chain...:D

I have a HurricanE 416 which is all metal with steel barrel. Sucker weighs at least 10 pounds. I had the 416/417 stock and I hate it, I lost the back rubber and the wires would always tangle inside the the stock tube. Ive switched to a G&P full stock and like it a lot better.
