My TM Hi-Capa 5.1: Episode 2

Well I lied, no Hi-Capa here yet. Redwolf's Fedex is faster than whatever eHobby uses(Fedex is probably faster than anything else anyhow). AS SV frame, and a Nova Trigger ATM. Hopefully with the help of Brian(ILLusion) this will turn into something interesting.....

Styrak November 10th, 2008 21:58

eHobby uses Airmail. So probably 7-14 business days.

Daiviet November 10th, 2008 22:07

nice, loving the full length guide rails. I'm guessing the slide will be a limcat with the compensator?

RacingManiac November 10th, 2008 22:22

yeah, but I might try something else too out of my parts bin.....see if I can make something lighter and doesn't look like shit...lol

But the Limcat will be the primary baseline...

RacingManiac November 14th, 2008 19:24

End of the week, and sure enough I got the gun...

http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3330056a.jpg
http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3330056b.jpg
http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3330056c.jpg

The stock gun allowed me to investigate an issue with my SV. I've long noted that the cool front grooves of that gun does not lineup properly with the frame, and that they sit a bit forward. After looking over the hop-up unit I think I know why....notice the little round protrusion beside the barrel on the new hop-up.
http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3330056d.jpg

I've since then swapped that new unit into my SV, and it did line up the grooves(will supply pic later). I figure for this build that feature doesn't matter much, but on the SV it'll make it look better....

About 40 mins after I got the box opened, the gun turned into this...

http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3330057b.jpg
http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3330057c.jpg
http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3330057d.jpg

AS frame, along with its sear and valve striker, and KM stainless steel Hammer(originally from my previous iteration of my original Hi-Capa), as well as the SD Barsto .45 chamber + Bull barrel. The chamber is actually from the 1911 in the sig. The 1911 now uses a Colt.45 chamber + barrel, without the comp and with a barrel bushing. The new trigger is not in yet as I am having a bitch of a time to get the pin out....eventually I gave up before I destroy the pin. Open to suggestion as to the best way of getting it out short of getting a set of roll-pin punches...

I'm keeping them like this until my new slide and barrel arrives probably closer to the end of the year....Swapped in the Guarder spring set as well. With the ABS slide and stock BBU and BBU internals, plus the uprated spring, the slide cycles very snappy and very positive. And much like my first time shooting a Hi-Capa, very accurate. The plan is to mess around a bit with the ABS slide to get it lighter. Who knows, I might try to fit this slide to my hybrid barrel on order, along with the AS BBU it can make for a recoil-free Hi-Capa.....wonder how long the slide can last....

RacingManiac November 14th, 2008 22:58

Well after some struggle the trigger was removed, only to have the Nova trigger to have too small of a slot for the loop to be installed....took me 40 min with a file....as with my other pistol I ended up permanantly fixed it with some adhesive to get any chance of slack between the trigger loop and the trigger itself out...

Also decided to put on the polished stock control I did before I got the Nova ones for the SV....

http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3330083c.jpg

And some .45 group shots....you can see the comp-less 1911 at the moment, and the now properly aligned front grooves on the SV...

damn it. I wish, I had one of those .45. Tell me when you want to let her go :D

Mr.Planters November 14th, 2008 23:41

You, raging, are the secks guru....

this is amazing

edit* Put some more polished parts:P

theshaneler November 15th, 2008 00:16

damn you and your gun porn... thats the last thing i need, i am trying to kick my pron addiction :p
i personaly just got my first TM 5.1 and i plan on doing some mods myself, any suggestions?

RacingManiac November 15th, 2008 00:22

what do you want out of it? Hi-Capa can go many route....

theshaneler November 15th, 2008 00:25

PMd to avoid thread jack ;)

Flashback November 15th, 2008 13:46

These .45 are totaly amazing. The last one is really nice. Nice work.

the_griffinator November 15th, 2008 14:19

Sweet dude. I really can't wait until I have the money for my AS frame.

RacingManiac December 5th, 2008 18:31

TruGrip pre-cut grip tape came in....ever since I got the SD grip for my last Hi-Capa I wasn't terribly impressed with their fit, and I was trying to avoid using it again in this gun. Came across this online and figure it's a good way to cover up the "OPS MRP" writing on the grip, and for $30 it comes in a pack of 5 I figure why not. Especially useful since I wasn't about to try stippling the TM grip. Application is simple and only thing I needed to do really was to cut the holes for the grip screws. They also provide much more secure grip than the slippery stock Marui surface....When installed with magwell no one should be able to tell this is a stock grip.

http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3331556c.jpg
http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3331556d.jpg

Don't mind the electrical tape on the mag used to keep the baseplate from falling off on reload when it lands on the floor, and the tarnished stock control...

m102404 December 5th, 2008 19:19

Awesome! Bring the extras to CAPS on the 30th and I'm sure you'll sell a few (put one aside for me!)

Tys

RacingManiac December 5th, 2008 19:43

I'll bring a couple, just in case I might need to replace this or want to put it on the SV...I'll give you and someone else who's interested......

They are only $30 bucks(for 5), I am sure you can probably order it in Canada...

Endymion December 5th, 2008 20:00

Colour me interested. :)

RacingManiac December 5th, 2008 20:18

alright...they are yours(Endymion and Tys)....

I tried a set of cocking handle that uses the mounting base for the Marui Bomar, but since I had the C-More mounted by a gunsmith before I got the cocking handle, the space underneath the C-more is not enough for the stock sight. I'll have to get another cocking handle(maybe the ProG4) that fits flush to the profile of the slide...

The gun is not zeroed or tuned yet. Test fired today and chronoed 370fps using .20g and PDI 6.05 barrel. Will need a bit more fitting work to get the gun working well, and I'll probably cut down the stock sight base just to temperarily have a cover for the sight cutout...

damn ! Did I told you that I hate you so much right now ?

ILLusion January 31st, 2009 03:21

What's going on with your mag base bumper? LOL.

Looking really nice, though. How is the slide functioning? Is it cycling well?

BlueBliss January 31st, 2009 03:22

awesome Race gun, I'm loving the comp.

RacingManiac January 31st, 2009 10:08

the mag bumper is wrapped in electrical tape so they don't fall off on reloading. Don't feel like getting aluminum one on those...lol

It cycles surprisingly well for next to no work....but the nozzle is a bit tight working with SD O-ring atm, I'll try the AS O-ring next....

ILLusion January 31st, 2009 17:25

What output valves are you using?

RacingManiac January 31st, 2009 19:15

stock, but I actually have some 9balls coming....since it was the only ones instock at eHobby last week....

the4thpower3 January 31st, 2009 22:24

RM - why don't you just mod the stock valves?
I'll do it for you if you want...then you can compare my high flow vs. NineBall.
Just send them to me USPS. A little bubble wrap, a small envelope and a stamp.

My modded stock vs. Tanio Koba (open)
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...3/CIMG4602.jpg
...put that in your chrono and smoke it :)

RacingManiac February 1st, 2009 00:43

I did actually before....I could probably give that a go still....

Couple more pics

http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3335403d.jpg
http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3335404d.jpg

Modded the stock rear sight base to sit under the C-more so that I have a cover for the top the BBU at the moment, ordered a left side cocking handle from ProG4 for future. The Airsoft Surgeon nozzle didn't work for too long, the spring tab broke off after 20 shots. Now I am using a SD Nozzle and AS Oring with the BBU/piston, but the FPS dropped because of that. Now I am at ~345fps. Have to try to improve the seal a bit....Got the sight somewhat zeroed enough, and thanks to the low-mounting C-more the process of getting used to using a RDS seems to be not so bad....also did some trigger tuning with the stock trigger loop, with some shimming with electrical tape I got to take out the slack in the trigger and with some leaf spring bending and disconnetor modding lowered the (perceived) trigger weight as well. Had to tune the SD nozzle BB-tip to get more consistent BB loading (was misloading) and add chamfer to the 2nd and 3rd lug get the slide not stick on return to battery. Now the gun seems to cycle pretty well, it has very light recoil and fast action....

hattrick February 1st, 2009 01:11

the4th, what kind of fsp do you get on those home made valves?

dude... DITCH the 9balls.

CANCEL THAT ORDER AS SOON AS YOU CAN!

Seriously... I have never been more disappointed with an aftermarket "upgrade" component before, especially from such a respected and renowned company.

The 9ball "high flow" valves offer absolutely NO increase in performance whatsoever.

If you shot 320fps before, you'll shoot 320fps after you install those valves. And those stupid ball bearings they include don't do squat either. All they do is get stuck in the cracks and crevices of your magazines and reduce your gas capacity.

If I'd ever seen poor execution on a product before, this beat it.

I SECOND this motion...listen to THE4thPOWER3, mod the stock valve or go with the TK. You've spent enough on the gun, why CHEAP out on 9ballers!

RacingManiac February 1st, 2009 11:11

ah well, I am sure it's too late to do that. At any rate I ordered a key with it(no I never had one before). I'll figure something to do with the valves....

808 February 1st, 2009 13:03

Sexy build man.

I've never liked shooting double-stacks, but they sure are sexy to look at.

RacingManiac February 1st, 2009 17:32

Some update on that FPS business, the propane bottle was running low, so I got a new one and tested again with the current setup. Now I am getting about ~360fps pretty consistantly now. I think the AS nozzle still gets higher fps, but it broke, so I'll take what I can now. I've taken this think apart and together probably 10-15 times these past few days, lots of filing, sanding and lubing...lol

MrEvolution February 1st, 2009 17:39

Wait a sec, an Airsoft Surgeon part BROKE? Thats crazy to me.

RacingManiac February 1st, 2009 18:56

I was as surprised as you.....

the4thpower3 February 2nd, 2009 21:38

My stock TM modded mag valves produce the same or better power than all the aftermarket units I've tried...And I haven't broken or damaged one in thousands of rounds.

RM - I've been having plently of sucess using the Shooters Design O-ring on the Airsoft Surgeon/ProG4 Breech/Piston Head, along with a Shooters Design Loading Nozzel.

Your 360FPS on .20g (?) bbs is quite good on 6.05 inner barrel.
Especially if you are not warming your mags.

What hop-up bucking are you using?

If you swap to a PDI 163mm 6.01 inner barrel, a good high flow mag valve you will be at 400-410fps with warmed mags.

I'm not a FPS junky anymore. But I do think there is a topic of discussion on accuracy, considering BB weight and Joules.

RacingManiac February 2nd, 2009 22:25

My idea is to be able to get the fps, which would allow faster speed with heavier BB, which *should* mean more stable trajectory of the heavier BB with the speed of the lighter BB. I've been able to get ~315-320 with .25s now.

The thing I am not understanding though is that the SD O-ring seems to seal real well in terms of fitment with the SD nozzle and ProG4 piston. But the FPS is just not there compare to the AS nozzle....

the4thpower3 February 2nd, 2009 23:06

I'm not sure either. Though I use either Proud or NineBall floating valve springs. I never use SD floating valves (they stick in SD nozzels). I normally use a stock floating valve or the Action (or King Arms) floating valves.

What are you using? Were you switching the same loading nozzel internals and just swaping nozzels? Maybe the loading nozzel tips are different size and you're not getting the same seal? What hopup bucking are you using? I only use NineBall hop up buckings.

I just chrono'd my ProG4 with a 5.1 length NineBall .03 inner barrel. All shots between 350-360 fps on .20g.

RacingManiac February 2nd, 2009 23:10

stock floating valve and stock hopup....though "different" stock floating valve, as in when I swapped I just took one for another(out of my 1911 atm).....I guess I could try swapping that too...

On the side note, I swapped the ProG4 trigger loop+trigger into the new gun from my SV. No electrical tape shimming was needed to get the slack free pull, pretty satisfied with that part....

ILLusion February 2nd, 2009 23:13

Yes, the ProG4 trigger bow is awesome. I'm going to have to get a couple more of those... In fact, I may even get a wholesale order of those.

RacingManiac February 3rd, 2009 20:47

hmm...I love shooting wide open.....
http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3335663d.jpg

the4thpower3 February 3rd, 2009 21:03

Have you had a chance to tune the trigger bar?
Besides being made of steel and being able hold it proper form, the cut tab on the front is the a great feature. They have been using this feature on real guns for a while. I have cut stock trigger bars to do the same thing...problem was the flimsy metal the stock trigger bar is made of.

Be careful with the "reset" feature. It doesnt need to be pushed very far forward to do its job. And if you do push it too far, it won't allow the the trigger to reset properly (ie. the disconnector won't have enough room to slide under the sear beause the triger bar would still be pushing back on it).

ILLusion February 3rd, 2009 22:41

Yeah, that was the first thing I noticed, as I went pretty extreme with the initial adjustments and slowly tuned it back.

RacingManiac February 3rd, 2009 22:54

what's the reset you are referring to? The set screw or something else?

ILLusion February 3rd, 2009 22:57

The laser cut tang that prevents the trigger from resetting too far forward.

It takes up the pre-break slack. It's the part you bend forward

RacingManiac February 3rd, 2009 23:13

Looks like mine was a first batch....lol

The trigger pull is pretty good right now, but I do feel left out a bit....

http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pic...3/3335681d.jpg

ILLusion February 4th, 2009 06:14

Captain KK sent 5 to me... three of them he indicated did not have the cutout to provide the adjustment, so he delayed the shipment on that till they were cut. Of interesting note, is that one of them was cut on the side opposite the other 4. Ultimately, it doesn't matter which side it was cut on, it was just interesting.

http://www.pbase.com/illusive_airsof...0/original.jpg

Andrew... you THINK your trigger pull is good now.

... wait till you try one of these bad boys out... I'll let you molest one of the several pistols I have it installed in. I have the trigger pull tuned to a feathery light 2mm pull in one of them.

I tried to take the pull shorter, but it was affecting the sear's reliability in hooking up with the hammer. The only way to do that is to actually file down the hooks between the sear and hammer.

RacingManiac February 4th, 2009 08:41

I still have some options available in that respect....just for reference sake, how much would you say your bent tab stuck out from the regular surface of the trigger loop?

ILLusion February 4th, 2009 16:16

No more than 3mm...

the4thpower3 February 5th, 2009 19:33

You can make you're own cut. As I've said before, I've been doing this with stock trigger bars for a while. Though the stock trigger bar metal is much softer than steel, so it doesn't hold it form as well. Luckly the when the trigger is resetting there isn't much forward force. So your adjustment will stay that way for a long time. But if you continue to bend it back and forth you stand a chance to break it. The depth of the cut will mater in that sense as well.

I cut staight up and down because...ummm I don't have EDM wire cutting capability.
I use a thin diamond cut off wheel (dremel).
I would say a safe bend would be right around 1mm anything above that could cause problems with the disconnector resetting. It's really a very minimal looking adjustment.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...3/SDC10317.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...3/SDC10318.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...3/SDC10319.jpg

KK sent me one of each. Though I didn't specify....I had assumed they were all cut.
But I wound up cutting the one that wasn't myself.

RacingManiac February 7th, 2009 15:13

Minor update, I am calling this done for now until I find some other way of spending money on it.....

added a "blast shield"(for airsoft, lol), and my cocking handle got here. also used some natural light in these pic, with extra boost from a flash...

the4thpower3 February 8th, 2009 07:42

The blast shield...well, it looks cool ;)
Umm, it protects the lense from ricocheting bbs (sort of)...yeah. That's what it does.

Let me think of more things you can spend you money on.
You'll need a Dot Hood to keep down the glare ring. You might want a switch knob to make it a little easier to turn on and off. And how about a lense cover.
OOO Arredondo makes all that stuff http://www.arredondoaccessories.com/...?cid=1002,2031
...wait your knob is pretty big. Is that a click switch c-more? Rich bastardo.

Are you satisfied with the reach to your mag release? Maybe you need an extended button?

You should try a thumb rest, they work really well for hand placement and really adds to handling and control.

Mag base pads add a nice touch...

Have you short stroked it?

How's the weight distribution? Need a steel magwell or steel MSH?

Titanium MSH cap to go along with the steel msh?

Just a few ideas :)....sorry I'm bored.

Nice pics BTW.

I actually have a hood, its a Limcat one from Shooter's connection, but I was puzzled when I see it had different threading on the screw vs the stock countersunk screw(stock one is self tapping plastic screw, the hood screw is some tiny fine thread). Not sure whats going on there.

And yes, it the click model...:D

I am actually pretty satisfy with the stock mag release, the size and reach is fine for my thumb.

The thumb rest, right now it is the mount of the C-More, the contour of the 9Ball slide catch and that kinda forms a nice spot for my weak thumb to sit on. Though I am intrigued by your screw idea...might investigate that further...

Mag base pad is expensive because you have to spend 5X the money....lol

Yes the gun is short stroked, with a custom spacer I got from work...

With the mag in the gun feels fine balance-wise....slightly nose heavy which is how I like it....
