Noob Loses a Tooth

At our T.W.A.T. Game on sunday, we had a noob come out and within 5 minutes of his first skirm, he got half of his front tooth shot out.

What a way to start.

I know this has happened to Armyissue. Has it happened to anyone else?

Pictures?

Styrak August 26th, 2008 16:02

Indoor CQB? Outdoor? Details? Why wasn't he wearing protection, especially if it was indoors?

T.W.A.T. games are usually outdoor @400fps, so I'm pretty sure that's the case here

dpvu August 26th, 2008 16:05

It happens and it doesn't have anything to do with being a n00b. I personally don't wear a full face shield or mouth guard and I make a very conscious effort to keep my mouth closed. However I've considered a mouth guard for some time. I saw some pics, it's in that "airsoft injuries" collage that I'm sure you've seen.

Disco_Dante August 26th, 2008 16:05

There's no crying in airsoft!

Tooth gone in the first game? That sucks majorly. Any photos?

We've had 1 dental mishap at TTAC3 ... same thing.. half a front tooth shot out...

The amazing thing is how having a front tooth shoot out transforms the apperance of a person from "inteligent, good looking young man" to "gap toothed yokel" instantly...

Its just a matter of time before it happens again.. as people continue to insist on playing in goggles with no face protection. In CQB with 0 distance engagements allowed... you gotta wonder what people are thinking..

empty_noise_room August 26th, 2008 16:07

Wow...

Note to self: Always wear the full face mask with your goggles..

He's okay for the most part right?

m!z August 26th, 2008 16:09

wow first round. that has to suck.

Conscript August 26th, 2008 16:13

I think Freedom Fighter lost a couple of teeth while playing way back, not sure if it was his crowns or other teeth.

Schwag August 26th, 2008 16:22

It was an outdoor game. It was not particularly close range, he is okay and has dental insurance.

Indoor at ttacc I always used to wear full-face. You'd be crazy not to. Same with night games.

No pic sadly. He went to get it fixed right away.

And yeah, it wasn't a noob thing, it was just a big coincidence that he hadnt even fired a shot in his first game and that happens.

TokyoSeven August 26th, 2008 16:29

Oh Ive been shot a few times in the teeth with AEGs and GBBs, the majority of the AEGs being over 320FPS. I havent had a chip or a break yet, but luck is bound to run out eventually. I really should consider wearing a face mask but I love to show off my bling'in 15 point diamond....ok no not really I dont like showing it off but it sure is a purdy one. I keep my mouth shut as much as possible during fire fights but the majority of the time I do get shot in the mouth is when Im yelling at or mocking the enemy.

seekah August 26th, 2008 16:30

I had my tooth shot out just a few weeks ago. I have been playing for years though.

Not a fun feeling at all.

FreedomFighter holds the all time record for bad luck. If he didn't have bad luck, he'd have no luck at all. I recall at deadlands he lost a tooth, and in that same month used a MP5 as a pole vault during CQB, smashing it into 5 separate pieces. Wish I had video of that one, it was funny as hell to watch, as he tripped over his own feet trying to make it to cover while I was firing on him. Aside from the tragedy of the MP5, it was by far the funniest Benny Hill-style wipeout I've ever witnessed in airsoft, and keep in mind I have Claymore as a teammate, so thats saying a lot...

tycho August 26th, 2008 16:32

God damn Schwag, that pretty much blows for him. Hope he's alright and decides to give the game another try.

As for not wearing face protection at TTAC...that's bordering on just plain stupid. I finally picked up a semi-auto select AEG (only firing semi is a bit of a trick with an AUG when you get surprised) so I'll finally be able to check out TTAC.
In fact...I'm ugly enough as it is, so I might just start wearing full-face (or a modified one that covers the grill, at least) at outdoor games, too.

aZn_triXta07 August 26th, 2008 16:43

Hence why I wear full face protection even though it compromises my aim with iron sights :(

For those who just wear goggles at least wear a mouthguard.

Amos August 26th, 2008 16:46

... Here's the best full-face mask option... It doesn't compromise any use of sights what so ever.

And they're usually available for under 15 bucks..

pusangani August 26th, 2008 16:46

yeah mouthguard makes sense, personally i'd wouldnt chance it so i wear a full mask, going with a new mesh mask for BW2 tho, hopefully it works better

aZn_triXta07 August 26th, 2008 16:49

The Sansei mask is alright, but you'd have to replace the goggles with regular ones as most paintball fields will not allow that.

Since I play indoor CQB alot I still prefer having full head protection I do not want to have to worry about big red dots the next day on my neck or other places.

I've had that one before and it won't stand up to a 400 fps full auto burst at point blank it gets dents and the dents become holes.

I bought 1 before and before even trying it I wanted to test it, Ancorp can vouch as he was there when I tested it, the best one IMO is the one with the wire mesh as opposed to the sheet with holes in it.

*EDIT* that sansei mask does fit VERY WELL though and does not interfere with the iron sights on my AK

Scarecrow August 26th, 2008 16:54

Bottom line we are all adults, if someone chooses not to wear face protection, thats their decision and sometimes there are consequences. All the more reason for the 18+ rule. To add to that, anyone who's ever lost a tooth in airsoft hasn't been an ass about it (in my experience) and has basically said 'yup, my fault'.

DENZILDON August 26th, 2008 16:58

My teammate got two tooth accidents under his belt. One indoor and one outdoor if I'm not mistaken.

dpvu August 26th, 2008 17:01

Very few of the players here in Calgary wear full face shields. Heck, most choose to wear shooting glasses as opposed to goggles when we have the choice. A balaclava or shemagh offers pretty good protection too (at least absorb a majority of the impact) if you don't want to go full face mask.

pusangani August 26th, 2008 17:06

^ woah that's hardcore, whenever I watch scoutthedoggie's vids on youtube, I always wonder how they can wear those glasses, not my face thank you!

Depends on your style of play to be honest. If you're using a bolt action and a scope optic, low profile shooting glasses are the way to go. Typically with that role, you will pick when/where you engage your enemy.

But obviously for assault you would want to go with heavy face protection (if you want to get nice and close)

I've seen guys do both, and never get messed up. Luck of the draw!

Turd August 26th, 2008 17:26

a buddy of mine got into a close firefight the first shot got him in the lip so it caused him to show his teeth then *thwack* bottom front tooth taken out by a 400 fps Mp5 Navy almost clean, the root was exposed and everything, i think he even swallowed it lol.

Yeah, it's kind of funny because at one of the fields here goggles are mandatory and everyone always makes a big stink about it when there's a game there.

To be honest, I've been hit in the face in both indoor and outdoor and it hurt and left a red mark but nothing permanent. I don't think I'll ever be sporting a full face shield unless required to. I actually bought a JT goggle + face shield combo and returned it a week later because it was bulky, not comfortable at all and impossible to sight my M4 with.

I think I'll start looking for a good shemagh or balaclava to cover my face but a face shield is too far for me. Just need something to take the sting out.

pusangani August 26th, 2008 17:55

yeah shemagh's work great and aren't as hot as a balaclava or ski mask, but damn you calgary boys are tough!

Pull the face mask part off and zip tie it to the bottom of a pair of thermal JTs or a pair of Thermal ESS Strikers... teeth protected and zero issue with cheekweld...

Others have just pulled the mesh out and worn this over ballistic glasses.. also an effective no fog option to reduce the chance of sporting a "defenseman grin"

JeffreyBrooks August 26th, 2008 22:03

I have a nice set of big old buckteeth; I always just wore shooting glasses playing airsoft....needless to say I bought an Empire E-vent mask not too long ago. It's a paintball setup but it's very nice, it's not very good if you use sight's but that doesnt bother me though...I dont use the sights anyways, I just line my shots with the barrel.

The thing I really like about this mask is that it uses a lens much like a half face hockey visor. I can also wear my glasses underneath it. I have asthma so I breath fairly heavy and I havent had a single issue with it fogging up.

MickeyWang August 26th, 2008 22:28

Where is the best place to get one of those Sansei masks? I lost a tooth a couple of weeks ago and a mask is looking like a great idea right about now. Total cost was $1175 and 2.5 hours in the dentist chair. I figure a $20 mask may be worth saving the rest of my teeth.

FOX_111 August 26th, 2008 22:33

I'v been shot in the mouth a couple of time, even in CQB by 350fps guns. Never lost a tooth because I don't smile on the battle field. Seriously, I make it a big deal of closing my mouth and putting my left hand in front of my mouth in tense/close situation. Not very pratical, but I prefer it to a fullface paintball mask or a broken tooth.

All my front tooth where expensively resurfaced with porcelene for an exorbiting price. I don't wanna redo it again.

really everyone should be wearing FULL FACE MASKS!! i do and will always wear full face... also i like to shoot for the head... just like ALL my video games have taught me.

side note; if you get shot in the head with a full mask you can hear it nice and loud... and it wont hurt so its a good kill.

arman August 26th, 2008 23:43

actually the saint has a sweet mask...he just cut it to cover the teeth only hehe... kinda looks like a hitler mask

Armyissue August 27th, 2008 12:08

One of these things is not like the other.....
http://www.armyissue.com/Gallery/alb...6-05%20038.jpg
http://www.armyissue.com/Gallery/alb...l_IMGP0199.jpg
http://www.armyissue.com/Gallery/alb...20od%20002.jpg

Seriously, playing with out tooth protection is like playing hot potato with a greanade.
And players who "don't smile when they shoot, have to learn how to call hit with their mouth closed.
I got lucky and only had to shell out 350 for the dentist, wife said I could keep playing. (she was fine with the splatters knee injury too untill I let it slip that I jumped and hadn't slipped as initially reported) But yes a 2500 root canal would have put a serious damper on the uninsured players lifestyle.
So spend $10.00 save your teeth. They look cool and very CS. What needs to change is hosts need to EDUCATE noobs about the dangers of playing sans mask.
Is there a thread in the FAQ or NEWBIE GUIDE about this yet.
Cheers

Disco_Dante August 27th, 2008 12:12

Coincidentally you can spend that $10 at his conveniently located store... Especially if you're a TWAT player.

Shrike August 27th, 2008 12:12

ur face is faq'd enough Jeroon...

Cheesevillage August 27th, 2008 12:17

A BB left a hole clean through my hatch nomex lightweight balaclava (tan:D ).
There were chunks and powder in my mouth. Now I use my rugby mouth guard.

Too bad both my front teeth are fake now:rolleyes:

FOX_111 August 27th, 2008 13:38

I look down or turn around to yell HIT.
Together with raising both arms and taking the red flag out, no problems.
