First Gun - Read the thread, but...

Ok, here is my problem.

I read the other threads in the forum about going about choosing a gun, I understand the majority.

Except, alot of the sites i've been looking on don't say anything about upgrading options, and some of the guns I've been looking at have the exact same specs as one another, but at 100$ difference ...

I know you shouldn't go cheap on these things, and I don't plan to, but what can I get in the 220-300$ Price range (exluding bb/gear)?

If this is the complete wrong forum, please simply tell me and i'll delete/repost elsewhere, thank you.

theguy August 12th, 2008 04:05

a kraken+a little bit of work on it..

surebet August 12th, 2008 07:52

Best you get for that money is a used brand name gun (CA, TM et al) in the classifieds, though you need to be age verified to access the classifieds.

By curiosity, what sites have you been shopping on? Please specify if you are canadian or not, the advice will be different.

kraken+ upgrades

AngelusNex August 12th, 2008 09:24

Jing Gong.

Euphoria_ August 12th, 2008 12:34

I'm Canadian, just turned 18 in April

I was on random googled sites..i was up till 6am this morning looking at guns and trying to fill myself in.

The TM AK47 gave me abit of wood... i really liked it. Youtube videos pumped me up eve more. But...

I compared

http://www.tokyo-model.com.hk/ecshop...226%20-AK%2047

to

http://www.tokyo-model.com.hk/ecshop/goods.php?id=435

The price is pretty close, cept ones almost 100fps faster ?

I want a gun that is under 350$ and I can do long-term-upgrades with.

Euphoria_ August 12th, 2008 12:39

And again.. I looked up the Kraken AK and it's 100 dollars, 360approx FPS, but nearly 200$ cheaper then the guns I linked... I don't get it.

Remember, FPS isn't everything. Alot of new people seem to choose guns because of high FPS.

I'd say get age-verified and get a Jing Gong.

Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Well non of these are in Canada so chances are they will never even reach you if you do buy them, and there will be no refund. You'll have more luck with getting verified and looking at the classifieds.

Firstly, the guns you liked are priced in US dollars. Retailers in the US don't have to jump through as many loops as the Canadian Retailer(s) thus making their prices lower than ours. The kicker is, you can't order from the US because it'll likely get seized at customs and you'll get blacklisted. (Meaning everything you order from the states from then on will be searched, along with yourself if you travel over boarder)

Secondly, Kraken is being suggested because, for the price, it's a pretty alright gun (from what I've read) and is TM compatable so you can upgrade it to your liking with higher end stuff.

Take the advice of those who have made suggestions. Go for a Kraken if you don't have much to spend. It'll give you a somewhat game-able gun with the potential to upgrade when you get a bit more pocket money.

You won't be able to get much in terms of accessories/guns until you get age varified though. Once that happens you'll be exposed to a world not known by those without white bar of acceptance. ;)

EDIT - Figures, I take so damn long to type and everyone gets in before me.

Euphoria_ August 12th, 2008 13:28

ah that sucks =/ was unaware most of them didn't ship to Canada, that sucks.

ANyone able to suggest a site for me then? I'll look for myself, but like I said, im new to most of this, I don't want to over-pay toooo toooo much.

Fly 9 August 12th, 2008 13:30

Best bet is to get age varified and then you can see our classifieds. That's about the most reliable you're going to get.
http://www.airsoftcanada.com/forumdisplay.php?f=108

If you're 18+ then find your region on the link provided and then contact a rep or two.
Under 18? You'll have to wait.

If/when you do get varified you'll find that the prices will still be more than the US but the people will generally try to give you the best price they can.

Most of the "where are guns pls" and "why can't I" questions are answered here

Where are you located? Fill out your profile and we can help more.

coach August 12th, 2008 15:13

I got a UTG MP5 (A5). It already has a metal CA front end (SD) probably will get a metal upper receiver and drop in a systema box eventually. That will have to wait a bit as I picked up a TM M4 that I've dumped more money into upgrades. :)

As long as it's a clone, it'll upgrade.

Euphoria_ August 13th, 2008 00:52

been looking more, was directed to site with models availble in Canada.

I know the prices are jacked up and not as shown on site for us, but would

http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_inf...858a5d63ab7ed0

be a good starter gun?

Had that gun, it shoots hot.
If you can downgrade that spring, you're fine for CQB games.
If not, only good for outdoors.
It's pretty solid to me, but no battery storage. The battery foes into that foregrip. And I think that forgrip is ugly.

Sorry to highjack your thread Euphoria but i was wondering if paying 250 for a used TM Ak was a good price? NO battery NO charger. Am i allowed to ask this? Sorry again..

Depends how used it is.

You can find much better deals by getting verified and looking in the classified section :)

yup its totally a good price for a TM. but still depends on the condition of the gun and how you use it

Shrapnel[Op-For] August 13th, 2008 02:03

just wait till you get into it. When you first buy a gun, you'll think "oh wow, $350! I just spent alot of money!", next you will be wanting to upgrade your gun, and eventually, you'll most likely be dissapointed that someones G&P, TM, CA, nicely tuned gun will most likely always shoot better.

I started with a JG, upgraded it, I still hasn't happy with the performance. I hated the plastic body, the low ROF, and the range of the JG. I just sold it and bought a upgraded g&p m4. The difference in good and cheap brands makes a huge difference. I'd honestly say, if you can muster up the courage (and money) to spend a lot on a good name brand gun, just do it, and you'll be much MUCH more happier later on.

Just my 2 cents though.

fehrboy August 13th, 2008 02:13

I just kind of stumbled on it while discussing my frustration with getting started with my buddy. I said i need a gun and he said he had an Ak..It looks mint but without battery and charger i can't fire it obviously. So my next question is how much am i going to pay on top of the 250 for a battery and charger? I will definitely get verified (hopefully monday) but i just want to make sure i am getting my best value. Is this a good/great gun? I have done some research but couldn't find a great review and found none at all in these boards. Is there much better value out there? Should i offer less? Or just wait? I hope i am not crossing lines here. I appreciate the advice.

oops i was a bit slow in replying..Thanks alot guys i appreciate it..

Shirley August 13th, 2008 02:15

Anyone can want a gun. Anyone can shoot a gun.

But does the gun meet your standards?

fehrboy August 13th, 2008 02:20

I guess that is the real question. It isn't the gun i really want i just thought it was a deal and it came at the right time. I don't really know what i should be looking for in a good AEG which is something i will figure out with time and experience. And everyone will be different..So thanks again guys i think i will wait for verification.

Just to clarify and so you're not dissappointed. Even if the store says they'll ship to Canada, there is NO gurantee it'll make it into Canada as the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) will more than likely seize the gun. Having a gun seized and your name put on a to-watch-list is not cool.

The problem with buying guns internationally (From sources outside of Canada) is that it is illegal to import replica firearms. Unfortunately a lot if not all airsoft guns are very easily classified as replica firearms.
