I was just taking some test photos of this gun and was going to start taking the *real* photos when the mirror motor on my SLR decided to die. So I guess you guys will just have to settle with these pictures for now.

This gun was never created with any intent of copying any real production counterpart. The beauty of the 2011 frame and the double-stack platform it works on is the high level of modularity it allows. Generally, practical shooting competitors have leaned more towards this platform and STI International has a pretty strong fan base. Because of the modularity of these parts, this gun could very well be produced by STI - but they don't have this actual model in the works. Again, it could easily be produced by the number of parts they have. The styling is distinctly STI. Enjoy.

jeez, another hi-capa......how well does mounting the aimpoint like that work compaired to the overside rail thingies?
I know it looks a hell of a lot better.

Is there an airsoft IPSC that I'm not aware of?

I approve.

I'm wondering, how does the trigger adjust? I'm assuming there is some sort of screw that moves the trigger forwards and back.

It is a course.. to build a base of shooters trained in the protocols. There will be more Airsoft IPSC events soon. Including competitions ...

I'm sitting here at TTAC3 right now while 10 people go through the intro course..

Many people prefer the "real thing" but not everyone can do it.. whereas everyone can do Airsoft IPSC..

When's the next intro?

What a beautiful gun. I love STI guns. You should try short stroking the the recoil spring to make the cycling insanely fast.

RacingManiac May 10th, 2008 00:51

Saw that piece in action today....thought I haven't seen that on the forum before. Nice gun!

I know it looks a hell of a lot better.

Sight acquisition like this is MUCH more instinctive and more accurate across a wider range of distances due to the line of sight being closer to the bore of the gun.

My only complaint with this current setup is that the Shooters Design base is a bit wobbly.

There is a set screw in the trigger that adjusts how far back the trigger pulls. It won't adjust pull length or trigger weight - it just removes backslop.

Yes, it's more of a class right now as there's very few people who would actually know what they're doing if they stepped on to a practical shooting course. This is just to get everyone up to speed - hopefully we'll be able to finally run some real competitions.
The classes/courses are currently being run by Shooting Chef, who is an IPSC Black Badge holder.

Yep, it's real. I've tried a bunch of knockoffs and they were all garbage.

STI guns are nice because there's variety - but if there's one thing that I hate about them, it's the font they use to mark their slides. I think it's U-G-L-Y. Aesthetically speaking, I prefer SVI stuff... I just end up with so many STI slides and parts because they're not in as high demand (airsoft-wise) as SVI parts.

As for short-stroking... there's a mechanical "error" with this build that's causing it to short-stroke unintentionally. I guess I'll just be like Microsoft and market it as a "feature." lol.

Cassius May 11th, 2008 10:52

Nice gun. :D Impressive as always.

Funny enough story... I assembled this gun, fired off 10 shots to check velocity, snapped these couple of pictures, cursed at my camera, disassembled it to install a new beavertail safety, went to dinner and then took the gun out to the TTAC3 Practical Shooting course. It's first range test was being timed with point scores... lol.

I was still adjusting the trigger and sighting in the Doctersight as I got on range. lol. Sad thing was the thing kept misfiring for some reason and shortly afterwards, the inner barrel locked up against the outer barrel. I didn't find out till a day later that there was something funky with my hybrid outer barrel. I corrected it with another one I had in stock. Other than that, it shoots super straight (for the range we were shooting at, ie <10 yards)

And no, thank God, it's not the D3 that's dead. I actually didn't have access to it at the time - I was shooting with my old D70. It's way overdue for a servicing anyways.

Very nice

Three years later, I finally got around to taking photos of this build. Sad to say, I haven't really used it in all this time, but I still really like it for a number of reasons. I'll probably end up keeping it for a while. A few parts have changed since, to tighten up performance a bit, but the bulk of the pistol is still the same:
