Thank you to Whozat - age verification

Just want to say thank you publicly to Whozat for doing my age verification. The guy did an amazing job, agreeing to see me the very same day or the next day. I ended up calling him at 10:30 am on a Sunday morning and waking the poor bastard up. He came down to see me in five minutes, though as I was already at the meeting place. He crawled back up to bed and I was verified like two days later and on both local forums too.

I just don't see enough appreciation for these guys who do the age verification; all I see and hear is bitching. Whozat told me a lot of assholes don't even show up to their arranged meetings!! The age verification system is a very important part of keeping airsoft alive and keeping the public safer from underage and immature punks.... these guys need our appreciation to keep it going, or it becomes a shitty and thankless burden. I just wanna say hang in there, and maybe even propose an official $10 fee paid to the verifier for verification outside of game days (I mean, airsoft is expensive enough as it is; what's another $10? A good asshole-weeding entry barrier). I should have bought him his smokes... almost did. Ah well. See you at the games, mate.

Agreed - I just met with DragonHawk on Friday. Really nice guy; he came to meet me without a second thought.

Good chance to get my appreciation out, too!
:D

ColtFarmer April 28th, 2008 12:11

I second the fee idea. pouahahahaha.

seekah April 28th, 2008 13:34

I would think thats a good idea.

diamond_SEA April 28th, 2008 19:26

it would be good to offset the cost of gas.

L473ncy April 28th, 2008 21:02

I would be good for buying a coffee or something, I'd rather not put a monetary value on getting age verified.

(Money you can spend anywhere, with a gift card you can only spend in one place and it expires).

Bontic April 29th, 2008 01:03

Or the best Idea of all: what I will be getting Whozat: A bag of KSC 0.25s. There is nary an airsofter alive that couldnae find a use for a bagga greased up bbs!!!

Whozat April 29th, 2008 17:39

No payment required, but thanks all the same.

seabass April 29th, 2008 18:08

haha, as nice as free stuff is, I could never charge money for anything airsoft related, I do it for the love of the sport, if i didnt enjoy it so much I wouldnt bother.

Nice to see people appretiate it

ToRN April 29th, 2008 21:12

Speaking as a verifier:

We all volunteered to do this because we saw the need to control the people who have access to AS guns on the site, with the knowledge that we would not be re-imbursed or paid for our services; hence the word volunteer.

If you want to buy the guy a coffee or something, fine, and I'm sure he will accept and appreciate it, but leave the cash out of the equation.

Shrike April 29th, 2008 21:57

So a backrub is out of the question?

My new policy is that I only verify women by the way.

I swear I don't stalk people.

I feel like I should stop typing now but can't.

I have never accepted any offer of cash etc as payment for doing an Age Verification. As it has been stated, we do this on a volunteer basis, to keep the weapons in the hands of those this site, and members, deem mature enuff.

Instead of any kind of payment, I would request a donation be made to a charity or non profit organisation. If the donation could be made on behalf of Airsoft participants in general, all the better.

Cheers!!

haha yes, you guys will be getting some of my money soon!

ColtFarmer April 30th, 2008 02:52

if anyone couldnt tell by my maniacal french laughing, I was kidding.

if we got any sort of renumerance it should come from ASC, but like the man says, everyone who is a verifier Volunteered for the position, the knowledge i'm doing something to help further airsoft in Canada is payment enough.

arman April 30th, 2008 02:55

so Bontic... was it worth the wait????

Bontic April 30th, 2008 05:26

No worries, I'm sure all knew you were kidding.... I thought it particularly funny.

I expected all verifiers to refuse payment, of course they would. But as a self-employed person with a family I know how valuable time is. As demand to join the sport (or to become chairsofters) grows, there will be a lot more people wanting to get verified, and it could tax the volunteers beyond what is fair. Another solution would of course be to increase the number of volunteers. In any case, it was just a half-baked thought thrown out there for discussion.

EDIT: whoops, reply was to ColtFarmer

heh. well, I am joining the sport with two friends who got me interested... we gamed at a private warehouse. But they were sure we had to get guns with 400fps capability. I insisted we should limit to 330, given my penchant for using my teeth for eating and smiling and stuff. They insisted more. So instead of my planned TM AK or ICS MP5 purchase (after hitting a ton of reviews) I opted for the only close to 400fps gun available that did not cost more than the annual GDP of the Republic of Bhutan, so I would not be left behind. The bonus was that I could get it right away and we could all see what kind of performance 3"70" fps gets (you can all guess my gun).

So I was already equipped way before I got age verified. I got age verified so that the other guy (one dropped out; a bad clearsoft experience left him permanently scarred with neural damage to his olfactory nerves such that he is permanently left tasting something like fermented cat shit) could get his dream weapon (not being a fan of AKs he could not get the same gun as I did). He just passed his 30th birthday, but for some reason he could not register a user account on ASC - something about the website not working - or something about the ass gears not engaging - not exactly sure - so I had to go through the age verification for him, essentially. He just purchased a KWA M4A1.

Sooooo.... now we have guns that are way too hot for our warehouse, and besides that cannot wait to enter the woods to light Charlie/Jerry/Ryssa/Nip/Tommy/Gwailow/etc up. Though I have not yet purchased for myself, I am glad his gun is on its way. Should be a beastie. And shopping the classifieds here is like being 13 and discovering your first porno mag - there's just so much you want to touch and feel in the flesh........ so yeah, it was worth it. It's amaaaazing how quickly you can pick up a gun fetish.

Though like I said at the beginning of the thread, after contacting Whozat it took something like three days to get in. Not really a wait of any significance. Major props to the man. Major pimpin'!

LeGROS April 30th, 2008 10:09

That not all... Imagine when you will buy your new baby... you will calculate the number of moon there is before you could have it!!

Buy the way... HERE is the Toys "R" Us for airsoft!

;)

For alot of us it starts out as a gun fetish, then it turns into gear whoring.
