G36 stock

Ok, a couple of points.

1) The G36 extendable solid stock...does anyone know of any active retailers that are selling it? I know it's discontinued, but you never know....

2) The reason I ask is because I'm a tall guy who uses a G36C. The gun feels a bit too short and I want a longer stock. Adjustable would be nice, but I can't help but wonder if a G36K/E stock would fit on the C? I use a TM, if that makes a difference...anyone tried this? The stock on the K is longer, but that's what I'm looking for...so long as I can put it on my gun without duct tape.

Any and all help very much appreciated!

The Saint April 12th, 2008 00:12

Active Canadian retailer? Not so much. WGC has it, though.

All G36 stocks will fit each other. The K/E stock is only longer, it's not shaped any differently otherwise.

The Lettonian April 12th, 2008 01:44

I knew it was longer, and I suspected the shape part...but it never hurts to ask and double check before you buy a part :P

thanks!

Kos-Mos April 12th, 2008 17:49

You have to like the look, but you can always use a M4 stock adapter and a slither stock.

I had a G36K, found the original stock too short.

I used a VLTOR stock at 3rd position (out of 6).

You can always try to make one. Im currently building an SL-8 style stock for my G36C. Its not finished yet but almost, need a couple hours of work. Its a lot of work but so much more satisfying. It can actually hold a 8,4v 1100 mini battery but i want to make it hold a 9,6v. I may be able to finish it this week.

:O Done and done. you're brilliant...I hope you don't mind if I steal some ideas from your photos? :D

Not at all, go ahead. I'll post picture of it when its finished. But for now just a picture of the unfinished product mounted on my G36C.

Dusti69 April 12th, 2008 20:48

youre probly gonna wanna make the thumb hole a little bigger and round it out on the edges if youre not already doing so

The Lettonian April 12th, 2008 22:56

my only concern would be the foldability of the stock...I might make the hinge bit out of metal and put a groove into it for the catch....
*starts sketching*

Naerah April 13th, 2008 00:36

In fact, i didnt care about the "foldability" when i started this, i never really got any use for it. The few hours of work needed are the sanding part(rounding the edge etc) and correcting a mistake we made at the locking pin area. Currently it's 3-5 mm off to the right so it wont fit in the grip section.

Amos April 13th, 2008 01:35

I don't think the SL8 stocks are supposed to fold..

That looks awesome.. If you're committed to keeping it like that.. Some fiberglass would do wonders around there, It'll smooth everything out and tie it together nicely

Naerah April 13th, 2008 06:14

Right now, im more concerned about how im gonna paint it... Its flat black like the rest but i have almost no experience in painting. In fact i really need help with that. Previous attempts left me with the strong feeling i should pay someone to do it for me. By the way FNG_13, sorry for threadjacking...

Gunk April 13th, 2008 06:31

Naerah: That's pretty nifty man. How many hours have you put into it so far? Is it wood? (looks like it). Is it very heavy?

Naerah April 13th, 2008 06:47

It took 3-4 ours to get to what it is now, still need a 1 to 3 hours more to be completed. Yeah its wood but dont ask wich kind i really dont know. its not really heavy but once installed on the G36 you feel the difference in weight. However i find the overall weight of the gun is more balanced, should help keeping it in a better way with a sling(meaning the mag and grip wont make it flip upside down anymore).

Gunk April 13th, 2008 06:54

Right on. I'll hafta remember that if I ever feel the need to be crafty.

The Lettonian April 13th, 2008 10:14

np naerah! I'm a fan of your stock, and as mentioned may attempt a duplication...I'll let you know how it goes. First I gotta rebuild a couple of AEG's and perfect my creative face protection...

It's almost finished!! Only thing left to do is paint it. So here's some more pics i just took of it installed, and a bit more detailed.

skalnok April 15th, 2008 10:45

would you be willing to make those for other people? ( for a moderate price?)

Kos-Mos April 15th, 2008 13:18

I can't see how it can be comfy..

I mean, the hole in the stock is too small and square shaped... I do have large hands, but that is a bit extreme... I would expand it downwards so it arrives almost perpendicular with the G36 grip... Would be a lot more ergonomic... To my opinion.

BTW, I have used L96s and SL9... They are meant to be held by the "hole", meaning that your fingers are not making it around the grip completely.

Naerah April 15th, 2008 17:09

Ah well, i was thinking of sanding a bit more of that hole but i just can't wait to paint it black. Also i am not a big guy, so for now the hole is quite ok. It's more comfy than it may look like, or should i say, it's been designed by me and for me, so it's adjusted for my size. I still understand what you mean Kos-Mos but when ihold the grip in my hand, my thumb get throug the hole without any obstruction. However i could not find a way to prevent the selector switch reachability problem but that's a thing that happen to all SL8 or SL9 users.
Skalnok the one i will be usig for now is a prototype, im supposed to make another one sooner or later and i will most probably sell this one. Just dont wait for it, it could take some month before i start the new one.

skalnok April 15th, 2008 20:49

lol sounds good , do you know the dimensions of your stock?

Naerah April 30th, 2008 01:51

I finally got over my fear of "breaking" it with a crappy paint job and painted my new stock. I did some more "epoxy resin molding" aroung the grip to make it more comfortable in the hand and sanded the thumb hole to make round inside. After installing the finished stock, im amazed of the new look of my baby. I'm quite proud of the result.

Now i just need a new battery since mine died for good (a cell leaked and melted the plastic over it...) because the battery charger i bought to replace the european wall charger was worst in fact, trying to fast charge batteries (8,4v 1100mah) at 1800mah. The stock mini battery never got a chance.... got a far better one now but no battery to charge lol. Anyway, here's some picture i just took, one of the stock while it was still wet and one for the "Before and After" effect. Thank again for letting me thread-jack you FNG_13! :)

Amos April 30th, 2008 02:42

You should hit it with semi-gloss clear coat from a very far distance, it'll help replicate the speckled texture look that's present on the stock plastic.

Naerah April 30th, 2008 02:45

Thanks for the tips! I was wondering how i could acheive that.

Dusti69 April 30th, 2008 03:03

you need a cheek rest on it now like the sl-8s have. looks pretty good cept for still being able to see the grain of the wood. and yea those sl-8 grips are pretty comfortable

Naerah April 30th, 2008 03:50

Could you get me a better picture than what's displayed on redwolf airsoft(of the cheekrest)? The picture on that site was my reference while building it.

Dusti69 April 30th, 2008 03:56

oh dude just google it. you did such a great job on the stock itself that making a cheekrest to "screw" on the top of it should be easy as "pie" for you

just take a block of wood as wide as the stock cut it to what size you want then round the top. next go to walmart, go back in the crafts section and pick up a sheet or two of those adhesive backed sheets of foam in black of course then cut the shape needed out and after screwing the block of wood down onto the stock just apply the foam over the cheekrest so that it covers it and overlaps down onto the stock

skalnok April 30th, 2008 12:20

im still all for buying one if you decide to make a second one lol. looks amazing
