Eye Protection

What are people using for eye protection these days... I used to use shop glasses (practically sunglasses) I guess thats not accepted anymore.

The Saint April 11th, 2008 15:21

If you're at a paintball field, you typically have to use paintball goggles. If you're at an airsoft specific field, they typically allow ballistics goggles that seal around the eyes.

ThunderCactus April 11th, 2008 16:55

I used shop glasses, nothing wrong with that. I use either ESS glasses or ESS advancer goggles now.

Donster April 11th, 2008 17:03

the paintball mask Vforce Grill can stop a .40 cal bullet. Give that a look. its great IMHO.

Endymion April 11th, 2008 17:12

I think it's more accurate to say that the lens could withstand that bullet - I doubt the mask would hold up.

ThunderCactus April 11th, 2008 18:09

.40? isn't that a bit excessive for paintball? You know, considering military goggles are only rated to a .22....

Firewalker April 13th, 2008 03:26

I use mastercraft shop glasses. They fit over my perscription glasses and wrap around for side protection as well.

They stopped a 8mm .36 bb going 420 fps from 10 feet away without nary a scratch. :)

Azathoth April 13th, 2008 11:08

ESS Landstrikers. Excellent goggles, that can put in a RX insert or fit directly over glasses. I was honestly very surprised when they fit very comfortably over my glasses.

However, If you are asian. I don't recommend them unless you have a meshmut or helmet to pull the head strap around. They may not fit on your face as well or comfortably as they should leaving potential opening near the nose.

I will probably buy a pair of "Asian fit" ESS goggles eventually.

Endymion April 13th, 2008 19:47

I'm still waiting for a release of replacement lenses for the Asian Fit ESS gogs. As soon as they're available online we could do an ASC group order...

Dusti69 April 13th, 2008 20:03

doesnt this belong in gear rather than accessories?

surebet April 13th, 2008 20:09

For airsoft specific events, Wiley-X SG-1s and various ESS products (full seal models only) have served me well.
As for paintball masks, V-Force and Dye have given good results.

For random plinking, Oakley M-Frames are good, but I wouldn't trust them with incoming fire.

sorry my bad. thanks for the clarification!

incrediboy729 April 14th, 2008 00:05

So long as you're just plinking, I think regular shop safety glasses are ok. Just something to protect your eyes. My plastic gbb slide exploded on me when I didn't have glasses on... luckily it didn't cause any damage though.

How the hell does something like that happen?

Dusti69 April 14th, 2008 01:29

a weak spot gave in to the pressure of the gas maybe?

Drake April 14th, 2008 02:25

Anyone use those Guarder C2/C3/C4 glasses?

They look appealing (namely due to the low profile and included Rx inserts) but I haven't been able to find any relevant information on their rating.

Shrapnel[Op-For] April 14th, 2008 02:54

I currently use some JT paintball approved goggles with a double "fanz" installed. I never fog up anymore, and it cost me just about $20 for the fans. But when I start going to the airsoft only field, I won't have to use PB approved, and will be stopping by dave's and getting some of these https://dstactical.com/product_info....oducts_id=1341

TokyoSeven April 14th, 2008 03:04

I should really find out the brand of interior lense I had installed. It was recommended by the clerk whom I bought my JTs from. It is some sort of anti fog lense that works wonders. It was a little pricey though. But its well worth it as I have never had a fog issue ever.

Turd April 14th, 2008 03:57

canadian tire shooting glasses, nothing special, 10 bucks, protects the sides where a bb could slip in as well, shot it point blank with a gbb in the same spot repeatedly, no damage. id recommend getting one of those things that holds them on ur head though

Gunk April 14th, 2008 04:53

I use some brand of paintball goggles... could be JT, I'll hafta check when I get home. I also use these wipe things to clean and coat them with an anti fog stuff. They look like the WetNap things you get at fast food places, the little square things that have been soaked with a cleaning solution. I get them from work, they're meant for safety glasses and the like, but they work wonders on my goggles too. They usually stay fog free for at least a day of playing if I clean them good in the morning.

I usually bring extras with me to games, so if I run into you at FR or somewhere and your goggles are dirty or foggy, lemme know, I'll toss you one.

WHAT!? reference?

Uvex have been pretty nice. I'll be getting a pair of Flakjak goggles this week. If they fog up though, which I trust that they will. I think I'll mount a little laptop fan on them.

Dusti69 April 14th, 2008 12:13

In a word? No. My gun is usually up near my face during a firefight. Facemasks just fog shit up (perscription glasses especially) and get way too hot.

Besides, regular PB masks don't extend all the way down to the throat.

If you're concerned about throat shots, get a throat guard.

Not only does that look stupid, it's pointless. You need that in paintball with the impact that those things give, not in airsoft. A simple shemagh, scarf or neck gator will do. I use my recon wrap and it takes just enough out of the shot that I feel it but it doesn't hurt.
