Tokyo Marui Thompson M1A1 - Need some advice of current prices

Hi everyone, I am just starting in the Airsoft sport.
In the past I had some Airsoft guns, most cheap ones, and now I want to purchase some good ones, particularly WWII Airsoft guns and would like some help on purchasing the Tokyo Marui Thompson M1A1.
I know we cannot order Airsoft guns from outside Canada, so my only option, as far as I know, is 007 Airsoft and A&A's, which have basically the same price.
I got the follwoing price quote from 007 Airsoft for the Tokyo Marui Thompson M1A1:

Tokyo Marui Thompson M1A1 $ 595, SANYO Battery 8.4V 1800mA $ 75, or EASTPOWER Battery 8.4V 4200mA $ 120, and charger $ 35
I have multiple hicap mag instock $ 80

So I would like to know if $705 for a Tokyo Marui Thompson is too much or is it the best deal I can possible get here in Canada.
I've just messaged John in order to get age verification in Edmonton, so i was wondering if i can find a cheaper TM Thompson in the Classifieds when I get verified.

I also want to know what battery would be better for the Thompson, in terms of quality and compatibility, if the price is not an issue: the Sanyo 8.4V 1800mA or the EASTPOWER Battery 8.4V 4200mA.

I know in the US you can order one TM Thompson for $350 with battery and charger, so i was just impressed by the price difference in Canada and would really appreciate any insights into that.

Thank you

kalnaren November 22nd, 2007 18:17

Get the gun from either A&A or 007 (remember 007 lists the prices WITH tax included).
Get the battery from www.cheapbatterypacks.com and get the charger from bbbastard.

Dao November 22nd, 2007 18:20

I also forgot to question if i can buy from the US a hicap mag for the thompson, since it cost less than half of the Canadian price.
I've read the FAQ and it says that I CANNOT import AEG magazines with fake cartridges but i CAN import Magazines for AEGs and GBBs without fake cartridges, however i am notr sure in which category the hicap mag for the thompson falls.
Sorry guys i am pretty newbie on this and just want to do the right thing :)

Hi kalnaren, thank you very much for the prompt reply.
Now how can i order the CORRECT battery? which one is of better quality and durability: the Sanyo 8.4V 1800mA or the EASTPOWER Battery 8.4V 4200mA?
I just don't want to buy a cheap battery that might screw up my expensive and beloved airsoft gun :)
Thanks again

Karma November 22nd, 2007 18:25

basically, for a battery, the more mA the better. Providing the charger you get can manage it. The battery that Ken(007) quoted you will be a large, so you will need to make sure that your charger has the right connector. Like kalnaren, I'd recommend the charger from bbbastard.

Dogfood November 22nd, 2007 18:37

I have the TM Thompson, you won't be disappointed with it. As for the Hi-cap mags yes you can order them from the US, thats where I got mine from. Not many Thompsons come up in the classified section you could wait if you want, but I couldn't..

Andres November 22nd, 2007 18:44

I love my Thompson very much, but for the battery, I got a 8.4V Large, with 4200 MaH. Just know, that my battery is about 3mm too large to close the stock. So it had the butt plate sort of open... however, it's not a huge problem because the butt plate stays in it's place.
Just saying, getting that battery in for the first time took a bit of effort.

Great gun, though.

Thank you so much guys, I am impressed I've received som many replies already.
What a friendly and helpful community we got here :)

The charger from www.bbbastard.com you recommended is the Advanced NPT 1000-3000mah Charger for $55.00, right?
I went to www.cheapbatterypacks.com to check the batteries but there are so many options and things such as "With and without Upgrade", "Choose Connector": large female tamiya, and so on, and i got confused.
which options should i choose for the TM thompson?

Man that is exactly what i am thinking: I can't wait any longer to get my hands on that nice Thompson from TM, even if i have to pay the premium price :)
BTW, I will most likely get the Hicap from the US as well, since it cost less than half the price there.

Hi Andres,
You said that the 8.4V Large, 4200 MaH battery you got is about 3mm too large to close the stock, and that it stays sort of open, so I was wondering what is the brand of your battery.
Do you know if the EASTPOWER 8.4V 4200mA will be too large as well?

Ken from 007Airsoft told me that he has 2 batteries in stock that will work with the thomposn: the SANYO 8.4V 1800mA $75, and the EASTPOWER 8.4V 4200mA $ 120, as i said before.
Do you know if the EASTPOWER is as good as the sanyo in terms of quality?

Thanks

amano999 November 22nd, 2007 20:18

cheapbatteypacks is really good, or ehobbyasia.

4200 is a monster battery too unless your supper heavy on the trigger a 2000 mah would be fine and cheaper.

For mags and batteries I would use ehobby as they are always cheap and good stuff.

After you get verfied you could always ask around and see if someone has a thompson for sale. Could save you some money, but they are not that common.

These are what's available for the thompson:
http://www.cheapbatterypacks.com/mai...r=15&model=151
The Elite 3600mAh without the upgrade will work fine.

MrEvolution November 22nd, 2007 20:29

Enjoy your gun when you receive it. I know I did :)
I personally have a 1700 mAH battery that fits fine.
As Amano999 said a 2000 mAh battery will work fine. It all depends on how much shooting you do.

amano999 November 22nd, 2007 20:41

Hell I use a 1500mah stick in mine and it works well.

Hey Dogfood, I noticed you have the mp-40. Is the one you have the same AGM as this one from A&A: http://aasurplus.ca/airsoft/product_...&reviews_id=99

Or is it the one all black without the Bakelite handle.

I will also get that mp-40 as it is in special now.
How hard is to paint the orange tip or take it out if possible?
Thanks

its a good gun for the price.

edit the red tip is EASY to paint over flat black and reaply after a bit.

Hey guys after doing some google search I just noticed that eHobby Asia sells the TM Thompson M1A1 with a Gear Box Version 6 and Motor EG 700, and 007Airsoft have the Gear Box Version 5, but also with Motor EG 700.

So now i am confused :(

I also read on this review http://www.airsoftretreat.com/review...duct=86&cat=30
that the guy mention the Thompson with version 6 gear box has an EG1000 motor.

So are there TWO versions of the Tokyo Marui M1A1?
I am now thinking that the last one 007Airsoft have in stock is actually an older version and that Tokyo Marui is now selling and updated version 6 gear box with an EG1000 motor.

Does anyone here know anything about that and can confirm for me, please?

If you know, then what is the difference between the Tokyo Marui Thompson M1A1 Gear Box Version 5, Motor EG 700 for sale on 007Airsoft and the Version 6 Gear Box?
Is there any known problem or bad performance with the Gear Box Version 5? Or could that just be a typo on 007Airsoft website?

thanks guys for the help

Dogfood November 23rd, 2007 23:03

Hey Dao. Yes the MP-40 I have is the AGM from A&A. I have the black one but I've found that playing with it for a few games that the black paint is chipping off only to reveal the bakelite under it. I feel that its a good gun and I've had no issues with it so far. As for the orange tip, mine didn't come with one..But if yours comes with an orange tip it's an easy fix with a little paint..

Hey Dogfood, does your MP-40 have all the original trademarks on it and the Germans symbols like the real steel one?
I am not sure whether the AGMs have the trademarks on their Airsoft like the TM ones
Thanks

The Thompson has a V6 mechbox. There is no such thing as a version 5 mechbox. I believe it has an Eg1000 motor.

I too am looking for an M1A1 Thomspon but i find that the price on the 007 site to be alittle pricey for something that costs less then half of that price in the states. Any1 know a place that might sell it a bit cheaper then that site? its so hard finding a canadian retailer.

Me too.
And don't forget the TM M1A1 doesn't come with battery and charger, and doesn't include $65 for S&H. So the final price will be more like $800.

Hectic December 4th, 2007 08:45

Batteries and chargers cheap!

Hi everyone. You could call this a bump, but I'm just another new airsoft-er in a similar situation as Dao, so I thought this thread was the best place to start.

First off, hey. :D

I've read all about the newbie things in these forums - basically, "we hate dickheads, but you have every right not to be one." So I'll try my best. This thread, combined with the links provided within, seems to have all the homework and research I needed to do. I just wanted to make a little check-list to see if you guys had anything to say about my way of going about purchasing this gun:

-Signed up at A & A, ready to order, $595 (it's closing?!?! What?!?).
-Checked ehobbyasia.com for batteries around 1500-2000 mAh (around $20), as well as extra magazines and the like. Seems great.
-BBBastard has ammo (O.2g, right? REALLY stupid question, I know, but I'm having a memory lapse) and a great looking charger for $55.

If there's anything out of place or just plain wrong, I'd be grateful for any advice. As well, if anyone can point out a specific battery off of ehobby or cheapbatterypacks, that'd be awesome as well. Thanks in advance.

(Might of missed something; will check back soon tomorrow. Thanks again.)

Looks good to me. You're right, buy the battery off www.cheapbatterypacks.com or eHobby and extra magazines off eHobby. On cheapbatterypacks, you use the menu on the left and select Packs -> Find By Model. And yes you'll want 0.20g BB's or above. Have fun. And good researching. :D

Sublime Beast January 31st, 2008 15:50

Wow man, quick response! Thanks. I remembered the rest of what I wanted to say/ask:

-Does anyone know what happened to Ken from 007 Airsoft?
-http://cgi.ebay.com/Two-8-4V-4200mAh-NiMH-Battery-Airsoft-Smart-Charger_W0QQitemZ330103598487QQihZ014QQcategoryZ34 063QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem, does this look like a good deal? If I'm reading it right, it looks perfect; it even says 'compatible with M1A1.'
-As a seperate note, the cost of shipping on most ehobby items is around $10, but can I buy my mags + BB's all in one go and avoid that? (It's been a hell of a long time since I've used eBay - sorry if that's a horribly dumb question.)

Thanks again, and thanks Styrak, for the 16 minute response. :D

Styrak January 31st, 2008 16:04

Lol, you're welcome, and here's a 13 minute response.

On eHobby, there's no combined shipping. You add up all the shipping from each item. Even then, it's still cheaper than most places BEFORE shipping. I always order shit from them. Good place!

Dao March 4th, 2008 04:55

Hey Sublime, have you been able to order your M1A1? ii guess mark from a&a doesn't have any left, but i guess Ken from 007 told me couple weeks ago that he HAS some m1a1.
I ended up getting mine from a&a and just love it :)

PS: Just be warned that if you're getting a 8.4V 3600mAh battery or larger you will not be able to completely close the butt stock battery cover, but it still stay in place, it just will not lock.
I first got the Intellect 3600mAh and i couldn't lock the butt stock battery cover and I particularly didn't like it that way, so i got a 2400mAh and now it closes perfectly :)
