CF Mjolnir Mark 5.2 (56k)

Made a thread for it.

I couldn't find anything close to the right light green and brown to do for the pattern. and I had to rush the paintjob to be ready for tomorrow (IE, I spent 20 minutes on it)

Individually each part looks like total ass, but when I put them together it is an impressive sight.

It's a cross between the Mark 6 (halo 2) and the Mark 5 (halo 1) I already had the helmet and shins assembled when I started the Mark 5, so I just kept those pieces to speed the process up. I also decided to use the Mark 6 thigh pieces because the Mark 5 ones look painfully comfortable. I made the Patterns from the 3D model myself for all the Mark 5 pieces. You can get them in this thread.

Here are some development pictures.

The Detailing on the helmet. Try this yourself, it's way better than bondo. Just if you have time, please sand the corners down and put in some body filler in the gaps. I didn't have time, but it would make it look 100% better.

All my plants are now lightly coated in resin and spraypaint!

Nearly finished helmet. The face shield is a lexan safetly shield I got for 5 dollars. Cutting lexan is DIFFICULT, EVEN WITH A DREMEL. I still need to put the cardboard pattern painted gold on it. (I happened to have some gold paint left over from my other spartan helmet.*

The other spartan helmet*

Armour has been strapped (old backpack) and soft armour added. I also dry brushed it with silver to cover up the crappy paintjob.

http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/6973/dsc06849wm7.jpg

Soft armour is SOFT. I made it out of some green craft foam that I spray painted black. I doubt it comes in black anyway, but I already had them.

http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/3016/dsc06851ov7.jpg

I put the strap on the outside for two reasons. It looks cooler, and I did such a crummy job at the top of the thigh piece that I couldn't cut a proper slit for the strap.

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2572/dsc06853on6.jpg

Here is the strapping on the inside. It is hinged at the top by nylon on both sides, and it clips in at the bottom sides with buckles that are adjustable. I used a lot of extra strap and hotglued it to the inside of the armour for support. The proper way would have been to revet it. For halloween I guess. You can see I didnt spray paint the back of the foam. lazy I guess.

http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/1631/dsc06854dw1.jpg

Finished chestplate... Wait I forgot something.

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/3104/dsc06856vp3.jpg

Oh Canada, eh!

and the fact that your gf is still with you means shes a keeper lol

MrEvolution September 25th, 2007 12:00

You sir are crazy. but i waited in line till 6 am for wii so my point is moot.

Moz September 25th, 2007 12:03

I didn't actually wait until the release. I stopped by for an hour took my Girlfriend home. I don't actually like Halo that much, I just saw this suit, read some information on 405st.com and said to myself, I can do this.

And then I did it.

There are already more than a dozen changes I am going to make for Halloween. Need got a orbital sander.

Mapcinq September 25th, 2007 12:42

Lol, you wore that around the mall? Get any interesting looks?

Cassius September 25th, 2007 13:43

hahahaha, I hate Halo but you're the first Master Chief I like.

S.H.I.E.L.D. September 25th, 2007 16:44

Moz, that is fucking sweet man. Nice work, and yes if your GF is still with you after this, marry her and quick!

2 stopped cars.
15 honks
6 "Finish the fight!"
1 crackhead who walked with me for a block*
1 marriage proposal
2 offers to buy the suit.
20+ OH SHIT, MASTER CHIEF
150 photographs, at least. (it was almost constant flashes where I went)
30+ pictures taken with individuals.
3 broadcast cameras.
25+ handshakes.
1 stand off with the official master chief they had, who looked like some skinny ass hole. The licensed armour looks like crap.

Pretty good for 2 weeks or work.**

*He started to ask about the nerf gun I had strapped to me and if he could try it. He was convinced it was a real gun and he thought I was a real robot. I turned to him, no word of a lie, and said "I have had enough of you, go away" his response was "yes sir." then he stopped and my girlfriend tells me stood there as we walked away. Cocaine is a hell of a thing...

** The first week and a half was average 1 hour a day. The last 3 were 14 hour days getting it fibre glassed, painted, and just sitting waiting for it to dry.

Moz September 25th, 2007 19:48

My next steps is to first:
  1. CLEAN UP THE GOD AWFUL MESS!
  2. Make a body cast.
  3. Throw out the biceps and shin pads.
  4. Remove the soft armour (the spraypaint just came off)
  5. Made a codpiece and replace the biceps and shins (they suck design wise)
  6. Made a real chest piece, I was using an OD chest rig and it looked pretty bad.
  7. Buy an orbital sander and remove all the crappy paint and resin.
  8. Add another layer of fibreglass
  9. Redo the strapping.
  10. Do a PROPER cadpat stencil with the correct colours, or just go with a solid colour.
  11. Trick or treat.
  12. Pose my body cast and have an awesome statue.
  13. ???
  14. Profit

Molson September 25th, 2007 19:55

what was this for? A contest?

MrEvolution September 25th, 2007 20:05

I think he made it just for something to do.

Ace of Spades© September 25th, 2007 20:19

Thats actually pretty sweet. I might make one to pass the time during my half days worth of spares next semester... Then I will challenge you to an airsoft game with them on =D

Andres September 25th, 2007 20:36

Ha ha, oh wow.

it's actually not that hard. You have find A lot of information at this forum.

You need this program. You best bet is to purchase a licence so you can save your work.

You'll need 110lb cardstock, I picked mine up from the stables at king and yonge for about 15 bucks, it was 200 sheets. Which is enough for your whole armour.

(this stage will only cost paper, glue sticks, highlighters (for scoring the lines) and time)

Ronan September 25th, 2007 22:44

You are my hero :D

GreyFox132 September 26th, 2007 19:23

lol i thought this was for airsoft. Field it and destroy every one

Moz September 27th, 2007 01:26

afew more layers of fibreglass and it should be ok for skirmish. The problem is that it's horrible to move around in.

Jughead September 27th, 2007 13:57

LOL... Ronan, thats awsome.

Could you imagine, Look at the detail in that, I would take my hat off to someone that could get it close to looking like that...

"I hit you!" No you dindt you hit my sheild, you have to hit me three times once for the sheild, once for the armor and once for the kill.

I can see it now.

Moz September 29th, 2007 03:02

Looking at the armour for skirmishing possibilities it has become very obvious that I made it too large for me to wear. I am making another suit for halloween/skirmishing.

The only useable parts from this suit are the forearms (which I want to redo anyway) the thigh pieces and the helmet. The rest I am willing to sell at a low price (since I didn't such a crappy job on them I don't feel right selling for more than cost of resources) PM me offers if you are interested. Otherwise I am going to trash them.

DC_ACU October 8th, 2007 03:17

my offer :

29cents shipped.

funny, I've had a few offers exceeding 200 dollars. I've also decided to give the left overs of my armour to a good friend of mine because he is actually big enough to fit in it.

Instead I am directing people to 405th. this is the respond I have been giving:

Quote:

Your best bet, and a cheaper one at that, is to construct on yourself.

All the information you need is here.

http://405th.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1648

you will also need to calculate the size of it based on your height.

http://405th.com/forums/index.php?s=...ndpost&p=22082

Now that is for the Mark 6 armour. (halo 2)

If you want my armour (halo CE) you'll need to use my files that I created:

http://405th.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3943&hl=

The scaling for my armour is different. The scaling that I used (6 1) was 25, but that was too large. I guessed 23.5 being a good size for a six footer so I re-released the files for that scale.

As for supplies. The bare minimum is 100 pages of 110lb cardstock. Large amount of glue. A ruler and two different coloured markers. (you need to score the lines with the marker so that the liquid makes it easier to fold)

That will make you a big papery suit. If you want to game it. you'll need to fibreglass it. Which I won't bother to tell you about because it's pretty late in the stage and the paper stuff takes a long time. (not really difficult. Just tedious)

Just PM me if you have any questions!
I am rushing though fibreglassing again, I have learnt a lot since the first set, but the temperature is dropping and that makes it difficult for the resin to cure properly.

The old helmet has been sanded since. I have also figured out how to get paintball goggles to fit, so my new full face mask is a mother fucking Mjolnir helmet, bitches.

EDIT:

Some photoshop madness. I am now suddenly in the market for an SL8 (red is the relocated gearbox)

Godfath3r October 10th, 2007 11:27

Funniest shit ive ever seen, can't believe you walked through the mall with that on. Camo is tight.

Moz October 10th, 2007 11:57

WHY IS IT SO COLD TODAY

MY DAMN RESIN ISN'T CURING.. ARGH

mr_gomez October 10th, 2007 21:24

dude if you had the rifle to go with, that would be the funniest thing in the game

Moz October 10th, 2007 21:43

Ronan October 10th, 2007 23:05

How many lawyers of fiberglass yah using? Also if you want to add details use 'greenstuff', its freaking awesome!

philstructo October 10th, 2007 23:40

I wish I had the time to make one for halloween it would be such a cool costume maybe a marine is duable :D

JDM350GT October 10th, 2007 23:53

yeah, with a standard marine it'd be pretty easy. but props to you man for making that wicked set and walking around in it like every other day. i'd be red faced underneath if it was me lol

Moz October 11th, 2007 00:10

The suit is behind schedule because I am low on funds. I am trying to sell an AEG to pay for it but there are so many damn flakers!

the cost of fibreglass has sky rocketed since I've decided to actually do a good job and use enough of it, plus the new tools I have bought have cost quite a bit.

Update. the thing is FINALLY starting to dry, but I have managed to run out of hardener again. And I nearly put my apartment up in smoke. :/

Also resin fumes are very nasty, it makes you want to puke and gives you cancer.

joker060 October 11th, 2007 00:39

OMG.........

skalnok October 11th, 2007 02:12

i was going to say you do know resin is pretty poisonous lol

and yea use greenstuff/apoxy putty they work wonders and are pretty damn hard when they dry

dodger_me October 13th, 2007 03:51

Quick tip for using epoxy in a confined space, Buy a respirator from the same place you got your glass. Also to prevent the epoxy from lighting on fire when you can really fell your container starting to heat up try to get the epoxy on your brush as it will cool it down and just drop the container on some concrete or snow. When I was building my boat we applied it to thick once and the side of my boat kinda went WHOOSH thank god for Fire extinguishers

flame October 13th, 2007 21:14

Ronan I cant wait to see you pull off that optimus Prime suit.
That will kick ass

Moz October 14th, 2007 22:10

suit is back on track, I managed to get some cash and I expect to completely disappear by the end of the week into this suit.

Aquamarine October 15th, 2007 21:18

Very impressive Moz, I haven't seen this until now!

Moz October 15th, 2007 21:56

that person who bought my MP5, I hope you'd like to know all the money you paid as already disappeared into this suit.!

Just over 12 hours later!

also, video updates on progress!
