Is there a lot of runing in Airsoft game?

What's the average distance a play has to cover in a game?
Will people "teach" you how to play in a game? or you have to learn it on your own "BEFORE" you get in a game?

Currently, I've been running for the past few days to train myself in order to make it "easy" for me in this sport. I'm doing 1km after my lunch & dinner. It's hard in the begining, but is their a better way to train myself up besides RUN & RUN... :duke:

Thanks.

amano999 May 11th, 2007 14:39

Dude you run as much as you want too.

You can learn on the field, so long as your 18 and not a moron, ppl are pretty nice at games and will show you some stuff if you ask.

Or you can try some CQB games at TTAC.

Karnage May 11th, 2007 14:42

you can play without taking a step. Sure you might be standing there wide open for people to pick you off but thats up to you.

So, I will not be "forced" to run with other player in the field??

HellRanger May 11th, 2007 14:48

Just don't stuck in a doorway while we breach into a room, running is not going to be an issue! Landing will be! ;)

SINN May 11th, 2007 14:52

or eat the burgers at Wasaga and let them do the running for you.

amano999 May 11th, 2007 14:54

Dude this is airsoft, just cause it's mil-sim allot of the time doesn't mean ppl are going to yell at you to run up a hill or something. If you want to run 1 km a day, go for it, will keep you healthy.

At field games it's usually just for fun so you can show up in jeans and a T-shirt if you want too, you'll just be a easy target.

mcguyver May 11th, 2007 14:55

I buy the big guns so I don't have to run. I might do a short sprint if there's a big line-up at the BBQ after the game though.

ILLusion May 11th, 2007 14:56

However, when you first arrive at a field, it's typically required to drop and give 100 pushups to show your commitment.

Wasn't it 200 pushups last year? What happened?

Some overweight guy passed out due to some cardiac failure, so the paintball fields won't let us do that big of an initiation anymore. Something to do with their insurance policies, liabilities and what not.

Poor guy... he tried so hard too. He was almost done by the time we got to lunch break.

ronliang May 11th, 2007 15:02

Ok, I kinda get the idea now...

Zekk05 May 11th, 2007 15:35

theres a role for everyone on the field, whether youre in shape or not. A good commander will take your abilities and exploit them to the fullest.

If you dont move a lot, just make sure you got a damn good gun, and a good shot to go with it;) Then youll be just fine.

Ibby May 11th, 2007 16:20

I don't run, but I do put bigger tires on my wheelchair the night before a game.

Jimski May 11th, 2007 16:21

running is good for you

freewheelin4eva May 11th, 2007 16:34

I run in full gear, 5k every night,
um wait I do not even dream that when I am sleeping.
no I do run a couple times a week, but not to give me an edge up, just cause I like running.
I would not worry about it, if you are running two times a day, you got a lot of guys beat. just don't get lazy, since we all said you don't have to run to play airsoft. haha

kalnaren May 11th, 2007 17:38

I run when it's necessary, or when I don't feel like walking to/from spawn points. I find if you carry a lot of water on you it isn't much of a problem.

Jesseeast May 11th, 2007 17:56

Well I made my own small training field in the woods behind my woods and train in it alot and usually practice stances and stuff you would more then likely use in games.

Kokanee May 11th, 2007 18:16

The better shape you are in, the easier you will find it to;

- attack positions
- performs maneuvers like pepper potting, advance to contact etc
- move tactically (leopard crawling etc)

Or you can just walk around and wait to get picked off...

Airsoft does not require a high level of physical fitness - if you can run 2.4km in less than 12min then i'd say you more than meet the general req's for cardio. anything faster is gravy.

Aquamarine May 11th, 2007 19:46

I'm a fat white guy.

I don't run almost at all. Try running with 100% humidity when it's +36 and no shade... trust me, no-one runs.

Manaconda May 11th, 2007 20:15

I run all the time. I expect all the guys in my squad to run when I run. If yer not running your getting shot. Even when I'm taking cover behind a tree I try to jog on the spot. Most of the guys on my team are hyper active so we tend to run in our sleep. Does this give us an edge on the field? Hell yes! It means we are the first for hotdogs, drinks the first in place for cover, to shoot to get shot to die, to scream bloody Mary when we've run too far and are now running away. We run up hill, down hill, on top of hills we run on eachother. Hell with all the running we do it's surprising we even get to play the game.

Run Forest run.

Way to regurgitate the min. requirements to join the CF buddy :p

that's very true, Airsoft has one of the most friendly community I ever encounter.

I did paintball for years.

shifty51 May 11th, 2007 22:00

I ran once, it was a Thursday i think. I recall enjoying it thoroughly. I may do it again in fact.

techobo May 12th, 2007 10:26

You can get away with not running much, but some fields require a LOT of walking. I would say that being in shape to run if you need to will make your day more enjoyable. But you will still have fun if you don't want to run.

Gerkraz May 12th, 2007 10:42

Once you get on the field, it's all up to you...so long as you don't mind potentially being a liability to your team. I don't do much running, because games last a long time (the whole afternoon) and it's useless to get completely exhausted within the first hour. It's better to just move quickly than all out run.

Kimbo May 13th, 2007 00:11

Not so much running, but doing alot of walking. Do this with a pack that weighs what you will carry on a typical game day weighs.

Being a scout - here's a typical outdoor game for me. Walk 15 Km, but drop to prone every 100meters, look and listen for 45 seconds or so, report to commander, repeat 150 times. A wee tireing at the end of the day.

Depends on how you have to play. Some guys at our games walk 500m get in a 8 hour gun battle, then walk back to their car.

Droc May 13th, 2007 00:18

running is fine, so long as your running towards, not away from.

funny story about running, i run about 5K a day, and last game i had to sprint with 30 lbs of kit with a "stinger" on my shoulder for about 1K and i still thought i was gonna puke. Its rough.

But imagine doing the same thing and not running 5K on a regular basis :) Probably be even rougher.

Amazing KG3 May 13th, 2007 16:27

yeah... thatd suck. i think the worst part is the cummerbund strapped on the chest, couldnt open my lungs

Yeoman May 13th, 2007 16:58

I swear the only times guys ever see me run on the field is a) I'm doing something really stupid and should be getting shot or b) I did something really stupid and it didn't work
too often I'm seen walking around while everyone is like 'omg bb's are commers at mes!"
sides running is good for more then just airsoft.
take it as a bar example; your drunk (but not too drunk) and the fat ugly chick comes up to you and starts to hit on you. gotta run from that right? unless your me or droc, then you stay there and chance it.
that and running is healthy. or so everyone in the army tells me when I'm ran into the ground twice a week, ugh.

MadMorbius May 13th, 2007 17:23

Like anything requiring any physical activity, you'll enjoy it much more if you're in decent shape. I've lost about 15lbs in the past few months, and my enjoyment of the sport has gone way up since I can perform at much higher levels than ever before.

Long distance running won't help you. Sprinting will. Running in-game is all about reaction, getting somewhere quickly or getting away from somewhere in a hurry.

Listen, there are lots of reasons to get in shape. Airsoft is as good a reason as any, and you have nothing to lose by doing so.

THEREALGUNGUY May 15th, 2007 21:05

are you guys kidding me?!?!?! you find it difficult to run 1 measly kilometer with 30 pounds of gear? unbeleivable! geez, i mean seriously. during my workouts, every 2 days, i do 15 pushups with a 30 pound vest on, then about 7- 10 min. on a stairmaster set at 75 steps a minute with a 50 pound vest. ask me to run a kilometer with 30 pounds? no worries. you guys gotta be really out of shape. even my buddy who doesn't work out at all can run that far in full kit. sad sad sad guys. and you think you're "simulating" the military or whoever? try starting with physical fitness, then real tactics (none of this damn spray and pray in the room like i always see), and then start a competition. or you could grow up, buy a real Glock and AR15 and shoot in the IPSC competition. oh wait, there running in that sport. nevermind.

you mean no one told you about the pasta meal and curahee?

nightcloud May 21st, 2007 10:06

:fro: running? I don't do alot of running in airsoft games, when I do its not far maybe 100 meters is the most I've ever had to run in a game. its not like the enemy on the other side of the woods. I think the thing would be to build leg strength to allow you to crouch walk, opps I ment to say tactically walk from one point to another, doing that all day really hurts the next few days

Yeoman May 21st, 2007 10:09

wow where did that one hoser come from?
for some reason I just find it hard to believe that he does all that. to the point of shenanigans really.
dude man seriously; just run. if anyone reads this for info. just run. you guys won't need to run anymore then 5k. but don't start out at that. 1.5k is a good place to start. do guerillia training. sprint 100 m, walk 100 m. do that for 30 mins. you'll feel er.

Sort of reminding me of that Casey Ryback guy ;)

On another note, I can't imagine somebody saying "RUN OR GTFO MY GAME". I'd imagine mobility is an advantage for you, however.

ziegs2020 May 24th, 2007 02:09

The only running I could imagine is running from the spawn point to the where the action is. Usually on the other side of the field.

Jimski May 24th, 2007 09:02

I usually run to doge bull... i mean bbs and jump-tumble in the air in matrix-like slow-motion while my AEG distributes multiple headshots on the field.

BBS May 27th, 2007 20:17

haha don't forget to take into account for the load (gear, clothing, water, radio equipment, guns, mags batteries etc) you are carrying when you are running. Airsoft can be a very healthy sport...but...no one runs, they camp.

DarkAngel May 28th, 2007 02:58

As long as you can sprint from cover to cover, or take advantage of darkness such as a night game, you should be ok :D

Take Short water + food breaks, keep hydrated, and you should be ok for days.
