Do you think customs would seize this?
Hey gals 'n pals.
So yeah, since I've been out of the loop for a while, I find that things have gotten even more strict with airsoft and the government (or whoever's responsible for hating our sport). I'm left now to wonder "Geeze, what's to say they won't take away a scope cover if I order one?". Anyways, without going through too much of an off tangent, I was wondering if anyone would know if customs would seize something like this if I tried to order one in: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...eburoMN-23.jpg From what I understand, it's a conversion kit for the TM FAMAS, but with it's hefty price tag, I'm feeling pretty cautious about the whole thing. why on earth would you want that?!
and I'm not sure I'd try to get it through, might be out quite a bit of money |
Good luck finding one. The Seburo kits were a very limited run a couple of years back, and it's basically impossible to get one new, or even used.
To answer your question, though, no. If you did manage to locate something that rare, I would not take my chances with customs if I were you. That would be a hell of a thing to lose. |
I'd say it would get seized.
|
I shipped three of those back to Canada, each were seized. I marked them as different items during each shipment
1: Plastic Toy 2: Toy replica 3: Cartoon Toy None made it back, sorry :( |
Damn...
And this is why airsoft forums exist kids :P That's a shame, I was curious about it but I guess early disappointment is a lot better than future disappointment. Heh well if they weren't so rare, I probably would have saved up and picked one up. All said and done, they do like pretty cool though. |
I agree that looks cool
I wont comment on customs there kinda weird =P |
For what it's worth, it looks good but is shitty resin construction. You're better off making your own out of fiber-glass, at least it'll hold up if you drop it on the ground.
|
Custom can seize that, they can seize anything they want to, the question is if they can make it stick.
I'd say you'd have a good chance of successfully appealing a seizure. Assuming you have competent representation, anyways. CBSA seize airsoft on the ground that they are replica firearms, and past appeals at CITT were thrown out based on the items' in questions' resemblence to real firearms. Seburo doesn't even exist as a company, much less as real steel. Probably isn't worth the gamble, though. |
Yepper, Customs are (at present) nothing more than legalized pirates in my opinion. I had ordered a book from the USA called 'Louis Riel" by a gent named Chester Brown. It was seized at the border and not released until I called and spend about two hours worth of long distance telephone tag.
It was held as being suspicious in nature.. EXCUSE ME!? HOW IN THE FUCK IS A HISTORY BOOK ABOUT CANADA SUSPICIOUS?!?!? Last time I vote Liberal. |

Well Louis Riel was a "home grown Terrorist" at least in the eyes of the government at that time... can't be too careful.. you could have been subverted by Metis propaganda |
hopefully they seize it so no one in canada owns it.

Fucking customs. |
Well duh, they'll seize that, it's black and evil.
Kids these days... Stupid customs |
Was just browsing around, and I was wondering if resin models (not airsoft, non functioning) could get past customs?
i.e. This http://www.newmoonprops.com/BSGPistol.JPG http://www.newmoonprops.com/BSG75Fin.JPG (too big for this page) There is also a completed model, unpainted is $40, painted is $65 (US I assume). Just as a collectible/display piece, because I really enjoy the BSG series :) or higher quality: http://www.scifimodels.com/bsgbs2.html http://www.scifimodels.com/bsgb.html |

I would assume that they would make it through, because it's not a replica of a real gun and can't fire anything...it's all hydrocarbon secretion of many plants in the shape of a futuristic gun. But I would prefer someone telling me that it can make it through (painted?)

The only other replicas pop up on ebay now and again for $200, these are cheap guns (as mentioned on the site) and not "hero weapons". There are many replicas out there, but I can settle for this one (I doubt I would buy it anytime soon, and by the time I do I may try for a better one).
That aside, will any of the non-functioning prop weapons (resin?) get past customs? EDIT: If I did end up buying from this site, I'd get the original resin because the painted one does look awful. The paint on the grip has empty spots, and is getting on the reciever, etc. |
functionality of a gun is not at issue
if it looks to resemble a gun, then it may be called a replica firearm and be seized. it does not have to shoot anything. |

It was a while back, but I got the SciFi Models miniseries-version kit, and later, a Matsucorp season 1 kit, and neither was seized... Although, in hindsight, I may have gotten very lucky on both occasions.
Matsucorp's version has a base revolver (like the actual ones) which he cast using transparent resin upon learning that it would be coming into Canada. The SciFi Models version had just a grip/partial frame (I had to build a surrogate revolver to support and fill the clamshell vents properly), so that may have helped. |

I got one of those things from a replica prop forum (except mine was molded and rotocast in black resin (no bubbles/cracks/warps) etc. Mine came from somewhere in the States, no problems with Canada customs. (and it's purty, too, by the way.) lol I could've simply been lucky, though. |
