Most accurate over the farthest distance.

Before I begin, I'd like to clarify that this is for target shooting, not competing or playing, so speed, size, weight etc are NOT factors. I realise that there are WAY more appropriate rifles available for target shooting, but I also want to leave the door open for actually playing airsoft with people in the future with this rifle. That wouldnt even be an option with another type of propulsion.

I'm looking for a springer that is of the absolute best accuracy possible. Accuracy is way more important than power or range, though range is a close second.

I'm quite mechanically inclined, so I certainly dont mind doing mods or upgrades (seems like certain barrel changes might make a good difference), but I'm looking for suggestions on a core rifle to start with.

My main criteria are: less than $300 for the main rifle (I dont mind slowly spending more over time for parts), springer, and conventional rifle design. I dont want anything too fancy (M21 style I suppose...classic basic sniper rifle).

Fidget11 November 17th, 2006 10:26

that is gonna be hard to find, i personally wouldnt hold out much hope with your price range. rifles that are good and accurate, and look like a traditional rifle are typically sniper weapons and that means bigger $$$ as well as less fun (generally) in an actual game.

thephenom November 17th, 2006 10:32

KJW M700, that's probably the cheapest sniper rifle you'll find in Canada. But it'll probably run you about $400.

Skruface November 17th, 2006 12:52

You can sometimes find the Chinese clone of the TM VSR-10 (HFC calls it USR-11) for around $300....it's 100% TM compatable, but the initial quality is only "OK", so expect to put another $300 in parts into it to make it "great".

And it's gas powered. Some guys in the US rig theirs up with compressed air in an external tank and get great power, range and accuracy with it.

BTW, what range are you considering? Because airsoft guns aren't that great past 200ft, no matter what you have in it. If Mother Nature decides you can get close to the target, she will let you. If she doesn't, you won't.

not exactly. 007 Airsoft has the Takedown model for $600. then again, 007 overcharges the crap out of you anyways. but at least they have one in stock :P

most accurate for the money? Cooey 39 .22cal for $95. then again... that's not airsoft lol.

IUsedToBeShodansOwn November 17th, 2006 18:00

I found this rather sketchy looking website selling many guns for under $100, with tons of customer reviews claiming 400-500 fps. I think its totally bull, but I'm not sure. Anyways, they have a Super 9 V2 for I think $95.

Now I know the original Super 9 is a big steaming pile, but I heard the V2 is actually quite decent. Anyone? Anyone?

Fidget11 November 17th, 2006 18:08

everything i have ever heard says the super 9 is a horrible gun and the v2 isnt much better. no 400-500fps out of it, and remember if your in canada, you gotta buy from within canada. a sketchy website is probably gonna rip you off, with buying online i tend to take the approach that if it doesnt look great it wont be great.

takatorikku November 17th, 2006 18:09

hmm. fill up the stock with something viscous so there's no more rattling, plus it'll increase weight, which is a good thing for that light ass gun. i'd also suggest replacing the little things like screws because if they were anything like the ones on my 500fps maruzen type 96, they're cheap and will strip.

i remember seeing a forum or site that had super 9 mods. here it is:

http://www.unconventional-airsoft.co...gi3000/Super9/

IUsedToBeShodansOwn November 17th, 2006 18:12

Yeah, I read that and it almost makes me want to get one. I mean, its clearly a totally useless machine, but those mods are convincing.....If I can find a Super 9 for like, $50 or less, I'd do it.

And about the canadian supplier thing, I know, and its hells of frustrating.

Greylocks November 17th, 2006 18:30

Avoid the Super 9, of any version. Period.

takatorikku November 17th, 2006 18:35

listen to Grelocks. (he knows)

save up your hard earned (or your parents' hard earned, whatever) cash and drop it on a TM VSR-10. i tried one once, my god it was amazing. got me wanting to get back into the sniping scene (the end, your AICS will be MINE!!!) and it's a fairly cheap gun.

CDN_Stalker November 17th, 2006 19:31

Actually the VSR-10 stock is fine, but it's pretty expensive to upgrade considering there are lots of sear issues when using a stronger spring in it............... aka. always breaking aftermarket sears, user ends up getting the $150+ Zero Trigger and piston to fix it.

Get an APS2-SV flat out, it's got scores of aftermarket parts for it, and is relatively easy to work on. But since you have "mechanical ability", if you have access to Heli-Coils, then you might just like the CA M24. It's the heaviest, most realistic feeling airsoft sniper rifle out there, weighs about 8-9lbs without bipod, scope, etc., has some issues but is pretty stable (and fucking solid!!!) after you set it up right. And it takes most APS2 parts internally, and a great stock trigger assembly, largely made out of good steel.

Problem is, once you bought everything new, including the gun, you'll be around the $1000investment mark.

If you plan to go cheap on airsoft guns, go home!
Point of my quote above, is that you will end up spending a lot for cheap guns and trying to get the best out of them, and after that large wasted chunk of cash, you could have just bought something recommended, even if more expensive, and had no problems at all (other than minor ("How do I do this with this gun?") Cheap equals major headaches, properly planned out, although more expensive, gets you a quality gun that will do very well in good hands on the field (and target range).

IUsedToBeShodansOwn November 18th, 2006 05:30

Excellent input everyone...thanks for the specific rifle suggestions, I'll look into them all. And I'm not necessarily looking for "cheap". I just want something affordable. I simply cant spend $2000 on a full-auto PSG-1, and much as I'd be delighted to (well...I hate anything full auto, but you get the idea).

That's good, because the only version I know of (Tokyo Marui) is semi-auto only, and runs about $700 here in Canada.

And is still a P.O.S. unless you add in a bunch of upgrade parts................ by then you'd have a cool looking rifle that can shoot about as well as any other upgraded AEG, and still be outclassed by a decently upgraded and tuned bolt action! :D

takatorikku November 18th, 2006 16:33

i have a deal on a fully Systema-upgraded PSG-1, with a bunch of goodies for $750 :D

vatek November 18th, 2006 19:42

007 doesn't overcharge at all, Taka...it may seem high because he includes the GST in the price.

takatorikku November 18th, 2006 19:44

ah, thanks for pointing that out to me! well all this sniper talk has me forking down money for a new rifle lol. damn you guys!

Tankdude November 18th, 2006 20:36

Agreed! Last year I bought three KJW M700 rifles from Grim at $310 each, brand new. Since then I've seen guys selling that same rifle, with a decent scope and maybe a couple extra mags for $400-450 as a set on ASC.

Unless the GST has gone up to 20-25% in some parts of the country.....................

vatek November 20th, 2006 01:24

Hm. I stand corrected. :o
