Walmart... and SoftAir... 56k Warning.

Look what I found last weekend when I went to visit my local Walmart. (Markville Mall)
A bunch of SoftAir guns. All of them were electric blow backs + a few non-blowback mini electrics. There was a few tubs of crappy 6mm bb's left though.
Theres no age requirement in purchasing them. I saw them nearly next to the kids toys section.

I saw a group of I'm guessing around 12 year old kids buying A STACK LOAD. They took all of the springer shotguns + several EBB's + tubs of those crappy softair bbs. As you can see the p226 is out of stock same with many of the other EBB's walmart had. I over heard them talking about how they were going to shoot cars and have a "team deathmatch" guessing they mean team skirmish.

No age requirement AT ALL. I was suprised. No wonder we have kids running around parks playing with softair and shooting each other without wearing proper eye gear.

Pictures below.

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...0/DSC00501.jpg
The shotguns were all sold out. It looked like a M3 shorty from what the kids were carrying.

What do you guys think about this? Should Walmart have put these behind their cages or freely let kids buy softair without their parents knowing?

Update:

Last week at Markville Walmart, me and my buddy were going to buy some Propane and we encountered 2 teenaged kids(brothers), if I were to guess their age they were around 13-14 years old.
We saw them buying the shotgun, and they tried purchasing it by themselves however the cashier prompted the 18+ question. They ended up calling their mom and begging her to buy the shotty for them. I'm not sure if they ended up picking up the shotgun however, they sure begged their mom for it.

Another group of skateboarding dickheads came into walmart and were trashing up the place, they were yelling out loud talking to each other saying, O HEY LETS HAVE SPRINGER WARS OUTSIDE!
Man markville mall is full of those skateboarding teens!

Dr_Tinshnipz October 16th, 2006 20:47

In the wal-mart I work at they are behind glass and its 18+ to buy, I don't know if they enforce it because I work nights.

ColtFarmer October 16th, 2006 20:56

at one walmart here in london they are much like the pics above, totally exposed and usually sold out, but at another across town they are all behind the glass wall.

dont know if they enforce the 18+ rules at either, i've never been carded buying them...

Ph0_Eat3r October 16th, 2006 20:56

did you see how much one of them targets costed haha ??

TCLP October 16th, 2006 20:58

Locked up. Hell on the back of the crappy crosman guns It says must be 16 yrs or older to use.

The paper target in the top right comes with a spring gun... :D

They dont check ID at the store in Barrie south end. Atleast not from what I have seen. Besides... the kids at the cash arent even over 18.. so it isnt like they are going to ask if the buyer is over 18 ...

Pliskin October 16th, 2006 21:14

It's 18+ here for WalMart and Canadian Tire. Strange that some stores go against policy?

Dr_Tinshnipz October 16th, 2006 21:18

Stores that are caught doing that can be "coached" so you should complain. Coaching is having to talk to your head boss.

Reminds me I need to buy more red 0.12g BBs for next season. Seriously, I use them! Cuts down wear on my mechbox.

MrEvolution October 16th, 2006 21:37

at the canadian tire near my place theyre behind the glass, but theyre also stored with the real steal shotgun buckshot.

id imagine the press will get a hold of this "Team deathmatch" stuff after one of the kids loses an eye, and the soccer moms will win again.

Korneil October 16th, 2006 21:39

At my local Walmart the softair guns are in the same section of paintball and firearms stuff, near the toys section, locked up though. I don't know if they enforce the 18+ to buy such things I should check some how.

Haha damned Walmart. How is the night shifts? Hows the pay? I've read several articles why their products are cheaper. They cut wages and order from china to make the products cheaper for customers.

Yeah It's pretty stupid how they don't keep the stuff in the cages. They keep GPS systems the cages but not the softair that could potentially take out a persons eye.

I can buy airguns at Canadian Tire. The staff do not even bother carding or even asking how old I am. Last time I asked to take a look at those crappy Softair AEGs. I just wanted to see the internals and the guy opened the cage and asked if I wanted it.
The whole 18+ doesn't apply at many stores. People dont really care to bother carding or even asking.

Boxer October 16th, 2006 21:46

Best Buy has a stupid cultish so called team building clap dance too. Really childish.

The pay depends on your previous work experiance, on my application form I put $7/$8 and they gave me $8.10 but if your over night they give you an extra dollar on top of that so I get $9.10. My hours are 11pm-7am Monday to Friday. I have no idea of the china wage thing BUT they try to say they don't kill small business's , and that they buy from them, but the business has to make enough product AND be able to ship it to all of the Wal-marts in Canada

Isn't that the Wal mart at Markville

Dr_Tinshnipz October 17th, 2006 07:44

Wow, I just noticed how crappy that peg board is and it's half gone haha If that was in my wal-mart who ever did that would get fired, or if it was natural wear and tear we'd fix it right away. By the way the Wal-mart I work at is going to be the first super store in Canada, on Wensday I think. Ancaster, Ontario come check it out the curtain drops on our new Grocery store with bakery, deli, meat shop there should be some good deals I think. Sorry if that sounded like an advertisment, just a heads up for cheap groceries.

Identity don't laugh at your elders and betters, douche.

MadMax October 17th, 2006 13:45

I don't really see what all the big deal is about. The guns pictured bear no similarity to the products of our hobby except that they shoot a similar diameter projectile.

Brightly coloured disproportionate plastic guns have been around longer than airsoft. Some shoot darts, some shoot aspherical pellets. These ones shoot spherical pellets. Do you plan on raggin on at length about transparent cap guns at your corner store?

As long as unrestricted TOYS do not output sufficient energy to seriously harm a childs eye, there isn't a huge necessity to limit it's sale.

shadow1911 October 17th, 2006 13:58

I know the local walmart here in Rh sells some "high end" pieces of shit. And I was tempted to buy one. Just so I could pick it apart and learn how to rebuild it from scratch. I walked off for a bit and my friend said he get it for me to take apart. I gave him an evil look and said "a tub of ammo for it says you cant get it with out stealing it. I sat there waiting looking at the lego section.(Yes I like lego your never too old for it.) He comes back with a tub of ammo the pos electric gun and a bill and says "you owe me 15 bucks." I stopped off and asked the guy at the glass wall how old to get the stuff. He just shrugged I asked him for a box of shotgun ammo payed for it he gave it too me. I walked my way to returns holding my bag with ammo in it. And then demanded to see the manager. I seen him pulled out my wallet emptied my pockets and said "how the fuck was I able to buy this and my friend whom is only 15 able to buy this." Manager gave me a funny look and said "don't know don't care get out of my office." Left the shells on his desk took the pos aeg and its now in pieces at friends it is his after all.

Moral of the story "walmart just don't give a shit."

And correct me if I am wrong but don't you need some sort of licence to buy shells?

And yes it was a true story happened recently like 2 weeks ago.

EN SABAH NUR October 17th, 2006 14:33

If it really bothers you, speak to the store manager. Failing that get a bunch of soccer moms riled up about it.

Speaking of WalMart.... They finally broke into the medical world by openning up medical clinics down here (US). They're planning to open 60 or so clinics so that kids who shoot their eyes out can return their crap soft and get their eyes checked and looked after at the same time.

Man when I went to buy BB's at CT (BB's for god sakes, plastic ones at that!) they carded me. Now your saying they let kids buy the actual guns! I feel wronged in more ways than one... actually wait... scratch that just one :D .

Aquamarine October 20th, 2006 01:36

I walked into WalMart -AND- CanTire here in Saskatoon. Both had the guns and ammo behind glass and lock.

Thankfully.

Skater_maclennan October 20th, 2006 11:05

They Should leave them out in the open so that me and my friends( who are 15 and 16 years old) will be able to buy them. we are into airsofting but however some of our parents dislke airsoft, so why not buy them, hide them and be able to airsoft decently well with decent guns. i have a stinger r34 which my mother bought me, but some of my friends parents are like all NO GUNS and shit wich i think is B.S, so leave it open!!!

I am happy your friends parents have a brain, becouse the average 16 year old is an undisciplined, I know everything turd bag, and is not smart enough to not get him self shot by the cops. there are kids aroundf my house that run around with soft air, I want to find out where they live and slap there parents.

mopic October 22nd, 2006 00:22

Really stupid of a company to risk a lawsuit over that. It's funny that eye protection is required, but there are none near the product. There have been recent cases at Canadian Tire where ammunition sales have been made to people without a PAL. Bottom line, companies don't care until they are sued. Personally I don't care if some dim wit shoots his Own Eyes out. What bothers me is that the fallout and media coverage may prompt further restrictions of our hobby. If you think a store is selling airsoft to underage, drop an email to head office. You are protecting our hobby. I think that we are one or two well publicized incidences from huge restrictions or an all out ban.

mopic October 22nd, 2006 00:30

18 years, no if and's or buts. I have no doubt that you are a mature, decent guy. There unfortunately is no means test to prove that. The accepted bench mark of adulthood and "maturity" is 18. And sometimes, I and many other players just want to be around other adults. Most players are well into their mid 20's plus. Quite frankly it's nice a nice break to be around adults for a few hours and not have to worry about adolescents and children. In a few years I have no doubt that you will agree.

hearty October 24th, 2006 18:21

Thats bullshit the law says that you must be 18 or with a parent.

I guess those guns are for target shooting?

Moderate November 4th, 2006 18:00

Just bought a .177 BB gun/Pellet gun (combo gun!) from wal-mart, to hold me over until I get my AK47S fixed. I noticed that the soft air guns were not behind the glass! I've never noticed this before, and then the traditional kids walk up with their parent/guardian, and ask said parent/guardian if they can buy one of the cheap crapsoft guns (although they're far more enthusiastic about it).

I bought a cheap Daisy air rifle, that said on the box "for ages 10+". The highest it went on any of their products was 16+...but all said with supervision by an adult. When they were ringing in the items: bbgun, bbs (6000 for $13!), pellets...each time the register said Check for ID/Check age...did the lady at the counter do so?

No.

Over at Canadian tire though (I looked around for the best price) all you could see was "AIR GUN POLICY" stickers on nearly every corner of the different sections of glass. I didn't buy anything, but I would assume they would check for ID...what with all those labels and stickers and such.

P.S.
Does anyone have a link to the law saying that it is 18+? From what I've seen today, it appears to be a guideline...depending on store policy only.

FOX_111 November 4th, 2006 18:20

What's all the fus recently with minors and airsoft. It's been decided it's 18+. It aint going to change. No amount of wining will get minors a gun.

Wallmart is being stupid with crapsoft. I'm sure it will change because those crap guns are all over the schools and more bad exposure is waiting to happen.

Where are all the soccer moms when we need them?
I never knew I would say that one day!

shadow1911 November 4th, 2006 18:25

Skater_maclennan you serousely need to get your head examaned

Savage Eh November 5th, 2006 03:08

i was just at walmart and i tried to buy one. (wasnt serious about the purchase just wanted to see if theyd let me) and they wernt letting me:mad:

Moderate November 5th, 2006 12:08

Perhaps someone should ask the folks at wal-mart why the softair guns are not behind glass?

TaYLOR-182 November 5th, 2006 12:17

I dont think they should be selling them to kids that young. I think it'd be okay if the kids were 16+ cause then they'd have the sense to wear eye gear and such. At the wal-mart nearby here (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) they ask for ID to prove your age of 18+. I don't know if they do that all the time though. I think it just depends on which employee is serving you.

Curtis Tactics November 5th, 2006 12:30

someone beat you to it dogmeat, anyways would wal-mart really change there policies? anything for a penny right. they must be competing with canadian tire, by keeping there softair outside of the glass walmart is getting an advantage over CT.

In that walmart they should have a cage or something. Jesus christ like a 7 year old kid could get one and the parent wouldnt think any wiser because it was free to grab. =/

If that were true, there would be a police station inside Best Buy and Future Shop.

TheEndIsNear November 27th, 2006 19:32

Aquamarine November 27th, 2006 20:22

How about you buy a real airsoft gun? hmm?

Greylocks November 27th, 2006 20:29

I am all for mature 16 plus players in airsoft but when one that is 13 shows clear signs of imaturity thats a difrent story. and sighns he wants to force his wAy into it.

Put straight its the immature assholes that ruins my sport. if i had graylockses extencive knolage I would do it my self.

i am dam glad some wallmarts keep crapsoft to 18+ only

Krieg November 27th, 2006 21:43

13 year old kid with buddies doing ONE stupid thing+crapsoft= possibilit of being shot dead by police.

AIRSOFT ONLY FOR 18+++
Airsoft is not for kids running around shoting each other.
Get faken cap guns or water guns for that!!!
Forget about airsoft till your 18.

Thats doesn't make me immature, im just saying that kids who dont have permission and who dont know anything about what there doing is not safe to be running around the street shooting stray Bbs

SuperCkicken November 27th, 2006 22:04

well i dont see wahts wrong with kids shooting clear "soft air " guns at each other they dont have anymore than like 200 fps right? well i dont think thats enough to do any damage even to the eye, also i doubt a cops going to see a bright blue seethru mp5 and shoot him expecially when the kids that are using them are going to be around 13. i dont like the idea of kids playing soft-air guns but i dont think that its an entirely huge problem.

(ps please correct me if im wrong about the fps)

Well... I'm sure many would have thought the same thing... but if you PM'd -Rubix- I'm sure he'd tell you differently.:D

Long story short, shooting yourself point blank with a clear Crosman can cause you to bleed from your arm.

underground November 27th, 2006 22:36

true that

SuperCkicken November 27th, 2006 22:40

who shoots someone with a gun even if it softair point blank??

anyhow well im doubting that it would do any dmg but then again im sure kids are bound to do something stupid like shooting a guy point blank in the eye( i unno why they would) i doubt kids would but u cant tell which kids are retarded when u sell them the gun at wallmart(doubt they would care if they even knew that he was) but it should be ok if they are playing under adult supervision with some type of eye protecting where ppl dont just walk by and get in crossfire

Exactly, when isn't anyone trigger happy or frighten at close quarter you eventaully lit up someone close range. So, you can't say just because its under 200 fps it doesn't mean its not going to happen. Especially the eye, ouch!

SuperCkicken November 27th, 2006 23:15

good point i guess i didnt think it through :P

Aquamarine November 28th, 2006 01:04

Yea, I'm all for mature 13 year olds playing airsoft
I'm also all for mature 14 year old's renting porn
I think 14 is a prime age as well for legalized drinking
heck, 16 year olds should be allowed to buy AND sell cigarettes.
Shit.... I think 15 year olds should be allowed... no... ENCOURAGED to get married and have children. Many... many children. As many as they can pop out of them

ie: stfu.

You guys are right.. that is the way things may have been in the past.. but these are changing times. In the olden days and girl that was over the age of 12 was ripe for marriage and kids. But now you go to jail for that.. plus you have to be kept away from other prisoners because they hurt people that do that.. but thats not the point.. the point is.. just because things WERE done that way in the past doesnt make them right for current times. I dont care how mature a 13 year old acts.. they shouldnt be playing airsoft without a parent with them.. they should NOT be allowed to buy anything that shoots things.. that can be used to hurt people.. that goes for clear soft, sling shots, paintball guns, and BB guns.. god knows your just asking for trouble..

Most of the time I believe some rules are made to be broken.. but then there are times like these when I believe that they should be enforced better.. We live in a time when most people get away with so much.. and they still try to get more. I mean.. you can't beat your 13 year old anymore.. or they can call the cops on you.. they smoke, and do drugs.. and some even get knocked up.. the world is going to hell.. and they feel the have a right to do what they want..

So come on people.. join with me.. Down with Teens.. Down with Teens.. you know.. the under 18 ones...

If I have offended anyone please let me know.. I dont mean to be a complete ass but sometimes it comes out that way.

no, not offencive, you put it way more politly than I would have. Kids with anysort of projectile weapon= bad
sadly I can also think of numerous adults who should be kept seperate from the same.
what ever happened to the good old days where children were considered property, and a cheap source of labour. damnd spca starting the snowball rolling on getting kids rights.
