AK 16. **UPDATED!**

Well you're about to see what happens when I get bored, too much caffiene, and left out with not having an AK around to play with.

After having a talk with some friends about wood kits and the like, decided to try and make a wood stock for my M4. Bud suggest a wood RAS system but that wouldn't work at all for any ammount of time, just snap crackle and pop to iny bitty peices.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ur/Picture.jpg

AK 16. Okay, so I'm not done the staining and have a little sanding left to do, but lately I've not had a lot of time on my hands to play with this. And I still need to get a one peice M16 barrel to finish the front end. Planning to wood turn some M4 fronts too.

I chose too use Walnut for two reasons, 1. its what most real steal hunting rifle stocks are made of, and 2. I had some kicking around that I didn't know what I was going to do with. Now I do.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture032.jpg

This is the first stock I made, I was going for something different from the regular M16 stock. The more traditional lines are here in this one. This peice was made as one, not glued together. The battery well was augured and chiselled out. A 8.4 3300mah fits inside and with a couple shaves more the fuse will fit easier but fits with a lil persuasion at the moment.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture034.jpg
This is the second, and was going for the regular stock, as I only had enough wood to do the simple lines here. This one was made in two peices, one because it was the last of the material and two becuase I wanted to try and different approach and see which one worked better. The internal scap of this peice is MUCH cleaner and more flat, letting everything slide in easily. But I do prefer the outward appearance of no seems, although the seem is hard to see on this one.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture031.jpg

And finally the heatsheild. Made of walnut aswell, and wood turned on my laith. selecting a design was difficult here, trying to recreate the same lines on the plastic counterpart to this peice wasn't too hard, although I've yet to set this in a jig I made up for creating the flat edges. Again no time.

Anyway, with a few minor touch ups these first attempts for an M16 are almost done. Will post pics up when they are... or when I get caffiene crazed again :P

********************************************

I present Owl's M4.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture036.jpg

The stock is elongated to accommodate a 10-point-something battery. Owl, you better have long arms, cause I'm telling ya its a good fit for me :D.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture035.jpg

The front end is a little more suddle this time around. Something different and I found that two things better. One takes less time to sand in around all little corners, and two I actually find it looks better as its more consitant.

NOTE: Its 12 in the morning, my foot hurts I've been driving for 2 hours after 10 hours of breathing in Walnut dust... any spelling errors can kiss my rump at this moment! :P...

Kid July 27th, 2006 09:16

You would not amagine how long I've been wanting something like that and how much I've thought about how cool it would be... You truly did it. And it's unique.

CDN_Stalker July 27th, 2006 09:34

Now that is cool! Will look cooler when finished, but still, like Kid said, it's unique! I never would have thought of something like that.

Get a G3 and do the same thing!!!

Wolfgang July 27th, 2006 09:43

Yup, thats pretty cool.

Can't wait to see the final product.

Keep it up

Greylocks July 27th, 2006 09:47

I've never been able to work well with wood, so call me impressed.

Have you thought of making some custom orders for people?

Dracheous July 27th, 2006 10:26

Well since you're not the first person to ask Greylocks.

I wasn't planning on going to public with the idea on this until after I had a finished FINISHED product to show was that I was planning on doing kits for many guns. But gotta get my hands on guns first. I won't do anything for a gun I don't have because I do not want to sell something I do not know WILL fit onto to the buyers gun for sure.

But yes I was planning on doing kits for the M16. And other guns as I get my hands on them ^.^

BloodSport July 27th, 2006 10:54

You forgot to mention that you were drinking that night we were chatting about this....

You should also take care of that toe nail... looks nasty.

Heh heh cant wait to get one for the M4 :P

Greylocks July 27th, 2006 11:16

I may get in touch and bring my Dragunov over.

testtube July 27th, 2006 11:25

What is aslo really nice about this Product is custome decals can be added to the stock with some skill. My order is already in. :-D seeing how he is a teamate.

Way to go Drach
Gonna have to get that shipment of wood in soon.

foxtail July 27th, 2006 12:25

ya hurry up! I need my parts for my stock back so I can shoot the fisher and raccon that has been around in the last few days. ;-)

bluetooth July 27th, 2006 13:16

Awsome stock looks nice! I tried to do something like that for my dpms panther arms kitty kat which is like a downsized m16 kinda like an m4 carbine but i couldnt get it to fit properly on the gun.

You got a fisher? Cool, those are neat.
Catch him and let him loose in the crazy neighbour's house.

veedoor July 27th, 2006 14:31

Wood furniture would look crazy on a p90.

No he's actually really good with us now .

gandar July 27th, 2006 15:02

Sweet work man. Looks cool. Very unique.

...There's not a lot of "furnature" on a P90, not in the traditional AK, AR, G36, G3, etc sense.... So I'm not sure what you'd make wood, other than like the whole body, which would just look like a wooden gun... Kinda silly lookin' IMO...

Dracheous July 27th, 2006 15:07

then you'd have something looking like that sweet sweet walt'h'er ((happy Stalker?)) 2000 sniper rifle.

would be interesting to attempt though not a promising gun for such a mod because its so small I doubt there'd be enough room to have the wood thick enough to make it feildable....

oOMuDOo July 27th, 2006 16:33

Yeah, very cool & not to dificult to add rails to it.. you can just screw em on the hand gaurd.

Lets see the final product eh! *Evil Grin*

firemachine69 July 28th, 2006 12:30

Dude. You so need to get laid.

Its true :-D LOL!!!!

Anyways but is it heavier than a full metal just out of curiosity???

Dracheous July 28th, 2006 21:01

Actually the stock I find to be about the same weight as its plastic counterpart. The heatsheild is about the same weight as my TM RAS kit ((Which is for an M4)) , but a lil heavier than the stock plastic G&P sheild.

Greylocks July 30th, 2006 09:33

I went to see Dracheous at his place last night. All I can say is that anyone who wants something done well, dont worry. Even his prototypes that he considers to be crappy are quite decent.
The walnut stocks he showed in pictures are solid, and they add fantastic realism to the M4 he was working on.

Cool now if he'd only stop playing Video Games and build mine...... 8)

Dracheous July 31st, 2006 22:03

So you're the one who got my entire network infected... not helping me get back to working on stocks dumb dumb.

Well, now that atleast one of my computers is working properly ((and faster too, gotta love wiping entire hard drives))... anyway I can get back to searching for ideas and listening to anyone's requests/suggestions...

Owl your's is at the top of the god damned list okay?!

brently0725 August 1st, 2006 00:47

You should get that toe taken care of man. Soak it in some epson salts and see a doctor.
Quit cutting it yourself with nail clippers it will keep coming back. Don't be a baby.
I had one for like 6 months and I too was like you and got scared to go in. Trust me it's only uncomfortable for like a second when the freezing goes in then you can go back to sweet sweet walking without pain again.

BUCK UP AND GET ER. DONE!

YOU CAN'T BE A BABY AND AND AIRSOFTER ALL IN ONE.

LOL

Dracheous August 1st, 2006 07:54

What the hell are you talking about? I've had this one since January because OHIP does not cover ingrown toenail. Every night I soak this in peroxide and now trying Javax. I've wanted to get a doctor to stick the needle in and then cut the damn thing out. And its not that I cut in too deep, its when I kick something and break the nail back into my foot...

I've had the procedure 5 times on the same foot, I know what its like. But I can't go into Gatineua I've been refused twice there now. They tell me OHIP doesn't work in Quebec ((Bull but anyway))...

Oh and how the hell is having something that can be TERRIBLY painfull because you stubbed it mid fire fight and it starts bleeding and pussing all over the place and you keep running and gunning as if its not there?

BloodSport August 2nd, 2006 12:56

LoL, Drac just build it now :P And get better at BF2 and learn to drive the damn vehicles.

Forget about the docs, take a couple of advils, soak you toe in rubbing alcohol to disenfect, then 1 modelling knife, and 1 pair of needle nose plyers later voila fixed :P

Oh and any updated pics on the M16, you stain it yet?

Dracheous August 2nd, 2006 20:02

First off, I am building yours on Saturday! As for BF2 you need to move your ass outta the god damnned road! Or quit trying to cut my brake lines, I don't use them anyway. Specially when there are walls to bounce off and stuff...

As for my toe I've been soaking it in javax from the advice of a few people couple who "were" plagued with ingrown toenails like me and a couple friends of family who are nurses...

As for the current kit displayed I am waiting on a one peice barrel to finish it off. I am starting to wonder if I should just go with the traditional seed oil finish so it stays nice and dark and hides well here at the Foxden OR. Polish this thing into marble... I'll figure that out when I get the barrel so I make sure it fits with out any problems to it before staining... though I doubt such issues will come up since its the same as the one I got now only longer :P

Dracheous August 6th, 2006 09:43

UPDATE: I am going to be making more of the wood kits for the armalite series.

For the DF-AK-16 mod I am currently charging $130. This includes a sanded finish with no staining. Also buyer needs to supply buttplate and screws ((Peice is cut to fit just like the plastic counter part.

For the DF-AK-4A1 I am currently charging $120. This is also sanded finish with no staining applied.

For a stained finish I add and extra $40 charge. This is because of time it takes to apply the layers and material.

I also will sell parts individually. A stock alone is $70, custom sizing is available at $10 an inch. NOTE: Shortening DOES limit battery space. And front ends the AK 16 length at $60 and the AK4A1 length at $50. Again these would be sanded finishes and no staining.

All prices also do not include shipping. At the moment I do not have any instock as the ones I've made are all gone. Anyone still interested please send me a PM. I should have a couple made up with in the next two weeks, but do understand I am busy aswell. No transactions would be made for a kit not built, pre-order would only mean that the buyer has given me info on which kit he/she wants and to which barrel. ((Knowing between TM and G&P barrels CAN help save the buyer time and patience so I can make them fit those exact barrels as the one peice and the TM barrel do have many differences))

BloodSport August 18th, 2006 16:10

Dont forget to bring mine to the Beer & Wing slaughter tomorrow!

Greylocks August 18th, 2006 18:36

That would be tempting fate....

Do I get to drink your pitcher of beer while you try to explain it's a toy to the ERT? :)

BloodSport August 18th, 2006 18:40

lol its only the wood kit, M4 part is back in Saskatchewan. The M4 used in the pics was Dracheous's. Plus it'll be locked up in my van pretty quick so I dont get drunk forget it in the bar, and cab away with it sitting under a chair.

Greylocks August 18th, 2006 19:23

"OMG they are moving GUN PARTS in the Parking Lot!!!"

Sorry, cant help it.

Could be worse. The place where my GF works is frequented by Ottawa, RCMP, ERT, Close Protection Unit, OPP and other police. At other times the Fire and Paramedics crew drop in there en masse. It's the safest restaurant in town, and the situation is quite funny to watch. Folks think a bomb went off or something.
