Do you wear a BDU / Harness / Etc. to Airsoft games?

I'm just curious as to how many players wear camo. I haven't attended a game yet but planning to soon so this information would do me good.

Thanks for all input.

Take a look in the gallery. For the most part people wear camo.

Renegade) May 21st, 2006 16:42

You have close to 250 posts on ASC, and you've never been to a game, hmm. However if you want to see what people wear, just go to the images section on the home page. But the best solution is to come out to a game, even just to look and ask questions. To find the next game near you just go to the Field List and game section.

Affliction May 21st, 2006 16:45

For one, I'm only 17. I turn 18 next month so it'll be a month or two before I can attend a game by myself.

I assumed that the (majority of) players that had photos in the gallery:
1) Dressed up for the pictures
and reason #2
2) Players that don't dress for games wouldn't be over-zealous to have their picture taken

Thanks for the feedback / votes, keep em coming.

No lol, as far as I know most of those players are players on a real field playing airsoft. Sometimes the pictures are taken after the match so that the camera person doesnt get shot and you can take off your goggles, but sometimes the camera person dresses up as well and gets right in there to take actual action shots.

So, even if they were just dressing up, it will still give you ideas on what to wear.

Good to see your asking before your 18 and before your investing YOUR money into it. Its what I did, get the idea of your setup first, then buy.

I know what you mean, people tend to go for a different type of headshot :-) :-) !!!

attack-beaver May 21st, 2006 17:27

well i dont have any gear right know because i'm poor but when i get the 300 bucks i need to get my fleck stuff from the UK yeah then i'll have gear but untill then its what ever i got lying around my house that i can use that does the best job for camo.

SockMonkey May 21st, 2006 17:32

ya 99% of people dress up in cam and kit. this being airsoft where we use realistic guns and not pieces of plumbing its kind of expected.

I second that. Its all about the look and the realism. Would'nt be the same if we all dressed up in jeans and hooded sweatshirts carrying AK's and Armalites.

Dress like them...

You'll get quite the warm welcome.

(This was a joke, but it reminded me we had a guy show up in paintball gear a few times. I haven't seen him in a while though, so who knows what happened.)

Oz May 21st, 2006 18:21

I would love it if all noobs showed up in bright red kit.

As far as I can say, I like to go as real as possible with my kits. With the exception of a few players first games, the only time they dont wear cam is when theyre doing a PMC impression.

FOX_111 May 21st, 2006 18:23

One guy did show up is bright blue Dye paintball clown attire. He received more than his fare share of BBs that day.

Only noobs come at game without BDU hehe

Rumpel Felt May 21st, 2006 18:33

Funny though how you'll get alot of people with $500 of clothing on yet the're sporting a PLASTIC gun and calling it full realism.

I like to put my money towards weapons rather than gear. No plastic or batteries taped to the side of gun for me. However, I dislike BDU's and would only consider them for a hardcore, 3 day woodland type event. Which ain't likely so I'll stick with my black, well, everything. I also like to run so a shit load of gear doesn't work for me. Plus everyones wearing gear from this or that era so it still doesn't make much sense to me.

Dracheous May 21st, 2006 18:36

Spandex? Anyone try that yet?

Seriously, what part of "MILSIM" was missed? When was the last time you seen the US send troops into a combat zone wearing a pair of jeans a white T and a pair of worn out nikes?

Yes there are "SOME" staged photo's but ussually the people WEARING those kits own those kits. So if you own all that gear, why not wear it when playing the game? @_@ I mean thats like buying a $400 BDU system/platecarrier and leaving it to collect dust in the closet cause you don't want it to get a little dirt on it while running around with an airsoft gun?

You know, I second that to, infact I did that. I collected my money and bought a good AEG with lots of goodies with it. Then I bought a solid GBB with a nice add on package with it. and so far on gear, hmm ive spent maybe 50 bucks on clothes and equipment?

Doesnt mean I wont spend a lil more later on a good LBV and such, but for starting out new, spend the money on a gun that wont have you spending more and more on upgrades or worse case, new parts.

Im not really sure what the heck you just tried to say..........Care to rephrase that?

integratyperx May 21st, 2006 19:59

Out of curiousity, how often do people come as PMC's? I mean for a cqb game would that be such a bad thing?

I know it depends on the game rules etc. but I was just wondering.

Very few I would imagine, there's no variation in the kit. Oakley sunglasses and boots, khaki pants, Nike ballcap, kitchen-sink M4, and a plate carrier.

attack-beaver May 21st, 2006 20:11

theres are a few guys in calgary that i know go for the PMC look. its a cheap t-shirt/long sleve, khaki pants, something for head wear, a LBV/plate carrier worth me then my gun and a riced out gun of some kind not always a armalite but most of the time they are.

look at the first guy on the right thats a base line PMC kit
http://www.airsoftcanada.com/gallery...php?i=619&c=30

rainman May 21st, 2006 21:02

I've seen lots of guys show up in lots of kit, from full on MIL setups, to a hoodie and jeans. One 'tard showed up with a bunch of bookbag straps (black nylon webbing with steel and plastic snap rings) around himself in a grey work suit, when I asked what he'd come as, he said some video game character. When I asked him what the straps were for he told me rappeling, I couldn't help it but I burst out laughing. If this guy was going to rap with his bookbag straps, not even a swiss seat or riggers belt, much less a real climbing harness, I wanted to see it, I'm a hardcore Darwinist.

Most guys will wear military combats (BDU's) when playing where we play. Not much call for greys or blacks like the SWAT look. Out in the temperate forests black really does stand out. We really don't have much call for straight up CQC games around here, it's very much green ops land.

Go with the look you like the most, do a little research on militaryphotos.net and the like, then pick a look and build that "impression" up. In the past I've mostly done the Brit look, but lately I'm intersted in the US SF ODA sort of look.

Do yourself a favour though and don't just get one set, get a couple of sets of different combats you never know when you'll have to dress up as the "bad guy".

Droc May 21st, 2006 21:23

I use camo cause it helps me hide = more kills
I wear a LBV/vest cause it helps me carry more ammo = more kills

I do not wear stuff so I can pretend to be a solider.

Mustang019 May 21st, 2006 21:40

Since I'm a newb, I'm not full equip on BDU's. But for me, I've chose to get a wood or cadpat and ad a black tac vest and a black holster. The kind of Special force look.

MinusII May 21st, 2006 21:41

Oh crap, i answered before reading the post. I thought he meant who dress's up in camo whilst prepping your gear (like the night before)... lol

Cadpat = excellent camo
black = terrible cammo

cadpat + black = not good camo and definatly not the special forces look....plus it gets really hot and stinky in a black vest in the sun.

Janus May 21st, 2006 21:49

Well, sucks in the field, but in a CQB situation, black LBV over cadpat looks fairly FIBUA/SWAT style, which when armed with a bullpup, makes for CQB funnery.

And besides, the LBV also can carry essential supplies other than ammo. First aid kit, compass, Fox 40 Whistle, map, change of socks and underwear, candy bars, smokes, etc. All the more reason to wear one. ;)

charlie_hozz May 21st, 2006 22:03

I wear for the field and my gun.Cadpat works very well in my area, so thats what I have. I only wear a LBV when I carry my m-16 and 12 mag's.But I ditch the vest and go lite while pack'n a shotty.

damage May 21st, 2006 22:20

I see some of your BDU works well. I get pissed all the time at games I attended because I get shot all the time. "How did you see me!? I am wearing all white!" Bwehehehe. J/K.....

I am still building my Marpat BDU. Works well on the field where we play.

Identity May 21st, 2006 22:24

I'm going to try wearing a suit and going to a game! :D
I normally wear all ETF/Swat gear.

However, I wanna get some marpat.

How about YOU go to a game instead of posting polls? Then you'll see what folks wear.
You'll also learn tons of things you've been asking about.

Exactly! I meant to say that before, but yea, you only have to be 18 to play, and purchase an airsoft gun. If the field owner or the game CO lets you spectate with the correct safety gear, Underage that is, then it is fine.

I have a question: Has anyone tried a MILSIM game with one side dressed appropriatly as unporfessional terrorist force or militia? As in the kind of guys who have a limited amount of camo, and are carrying cheap and easy guns to find like an AK or an M16, maybe even only pistols or SMGs like the MAC-11? (BTW. when I say "Cheap and easy" I mean something cheap and easy to find IRL) It'd make for an interesting MILSIM CQB scenario.

I doubt it? because if your not willing to spend at least 100 on a good camo suit, and 500 on a gun that will last a good day in the field, you dont even wanna bother playing. Youll get owned and you wont be respected. But Im sure some people have played with different costumes and all, but we would never use cheapness as an excuse to play on the side that only wears cheap back of your closset clothes..

All of those people should die...and stay that way until they've learned their lesson...except for the Leia chick...she's cool.

Oh, and back on topic, I had a friend go one time in a suit. He used nothing but pistols all game (it was indoor btw) and everyone laughed at him...a lot.

Personally, I usually go all black, went last time in black jeans and a dress shirt. combined with my black holster it worked out just fine (once again indoor). I do plan on buying some CADPAT for outdoor, I just haven't gotten around to it yet, but seeing as it's summer, I think the clock is already ticking.

EDIT: by the way, how the hell do you convince a woman like that to do that?

Gerkraz May 23rd, 2006 07:03

It absolutely kills me to see people wear a full tac loadout, including camo, knee pads, gloves etc, and not blouse their fucking boots.

Never really understood why so many feel this way. You do realise there are a number of advantages to not blousing your boots depending on the type of operation your going on?

I doubt it? because if your not willing to spend at least 100 on a good camo suit, and 500 on a gun that will last a good day in the field, you dont even wanna bother playing. Youll get owned and you wont be respected. But Im sure some people have played with different costumes and all, but we would never use cheapness as an excuse to play on the side that only wears cheap back of your closset clothes..

What's your point?? I wear old US BDU pants that I stole from my brother and I've had to patch up the knees. For a top I wear what ever I feel like. At the WP game this weekend I wore my black CF hoodie. Clothes don't make the player. Of course when I need camo I just throw on my ghillie so I guess I do kinda have camo.

I guess it depends on where you play. Next time I'm at FR (if I have the money) I plan on wearing some kind of costume. To me airsoft is all about having fun. If I can still play effectivly while wearing a winnie the pooh outfit I will.

A number of recent games have had the terrorist side use mismatched and miscellaneous camo. Why do you speak with such authority when you know nothing practical about the game? You're spreading terrible misinformation.

Actualy we (BCAC) just had a milsim this year with Afgahn forces and Al Queda (sp?) both wearing a mix of civies and whatever. Worked out quite well I might add.

Since I plan to eventually make a terrorist/insurgent style , I wanted to buy myself a White Thobe ( http://simplyislam.com/iteminfo.asp?item=56683 )
and put on a Shemagh , along with a nice TM AK47 and probably a Bdu Belt with some pouches ( too bad we really need them  ).

Should look something like this : http://www.exploresaudiarabia.com/fa...g_costume1.jpg

but then I thought : Hey dude , that's no camo at all ....cool !

Airsoft is all about fun , I love being different also
