Best wishes thread for Kokanee

About 40 of us played the LZ today, Kokanee was in one of the towers, third floor, spotted one of our guys (Warmonger) with a sniper rifle in the woodline, called it out, didn't pay attention to where he stepped and fell through the entrance hole from the second floor to the third floor. Injuring on his right side ribs, might have fractures or broken ribs, might be milder like bruised ribs. Kudos to TangoCharlie, Irish and Flying_Bullits (ETF team members, who are professionally paramedic trained and their profession as well) who took care of him after Rexter EVAC'd Kokanee from the base area in the Iltis, and took 100% care of him until the abulance showed up.

I called Kokanee's cell phone in hopes of leaving a message for him to give my best wishes to him, that I've been thinking a lot of him, but phone wasn't on. Figured since a LOT of us know him on here, I'd start a thread for him for you guys to leave messages for him. Been thinking about what happened since we found out it was him and possible broken ribs. More so since I got home though.

So Josh, let me be the first to say hopefully the injury isn't as bad as feared, and hope to see you up and running very soon. Added unfortuante, he just got over pnemonia last week or the week before. Poor bugger. Anyways, Rexter said he'd post updated on Kokanee's condition on the ETF forum as soon as he finds anything out, and I or another will give you all updates.

:salute:

PS: Pantless Crab took a pic of Josh in the Iltis being treated by Irish and Bullits, maybe Crab can post the pic here. Josh was in a LOT of pain!!!

DuffMan April 30th, 2006 18:24

Hope it's not too bad Josh.
Hopefully the doc's score you some good pain killers to get you through.

MMMiles! April 30th, 2006 19:22

Hey Josh, we can ban a bunch of people when you get back to make you feel better.

Broken ribs suck, incidentally.

-Skeletor- April 30th, 2006 19:28

That sucks, get well man.

Aquamarine April 30th, 2006 19:28

All the best, you filthy bastard! ;)

Primus April 30th, 2006 19:29

Just a quick update for you all; it appears that Josh does not have broken ribs and they did blood work to make sure it wasn't kidneys but they are still unsure as to what the problem is. The last I heard he was headed for the General for more tests (CT Scan, recheck of the x-rays, etc, etc).

Here's to a pain free (as much as possible) and speedy recover for Josh.

Apparently when the ambulance arrived they gave him a shot of morphine.

Primus, thanks for the update, that's good news for now.

Get well soon buddy!

Laike April 30th, 2006 19:35

Broken ribs are miserable. Get well soon!

foxtail April 30th, 2006 19:35

I have known kokanee for a while now and I can say with the shape he is in phicaly he should be up and running again.

Take care mate and best wishes.

Now I am thinking twice about the POW towers at my field.

bean April 30th, 2006 19:58

Im not exactly sure how the towers are made up at your field. However the hole in the floor can have railings put up around it or a door over the hole.

Arnisador April 30th, 2006 20:00

at least so far, you've got bragging rights for "best airsoft related injury" :)

heal up mang. Here's to a speedy recovery.

JacoNB April 30th, 2006 20:10

Get well soon man, speedy recovery.

Suggestion of either a trap door or 2x4s nailed to the floor around the perimeter of the entrance have been suggested. At least putting the 2x4s there, the player can feel when he's close even if he's facing outwards. Considering the number of games int he last year and a half at the LZ, and it's 15ft rock cliffs and 5 towers, this is the ONLY injury the LZ has seen yet. I'd say that's a great track record (yes, none is better).

Scarecrow April 30th, 2006 20:44

Sorry to hear about this Kokanee, that really sucks. Hope to hear an update soon on your condition.

On the other hand I am glad to hear many qualified first responders were there to look after you. I always get sideways glances from people when I ask for players at a game to show hands for first aid and CPR and a litter-critical team. This is EXACTLY why I do that. Given how hard some of us play and some field conditions, its almost guaranteed at some point to have something like this happen.

I'd recommend all hosts take a lesson in this. You can't always stop an injury from occuring but with the right people in the right place at the right time you can deal with such circumstances in a professional and proactive manner.

Good work to all at that field.

conrad April 30th, 2006 20:44

ASC is here for you Kokanee, in an online sorta way. Get well soon! :)

lt_poncho April 30th, 2006 20:47

Freedom Fighter April 30th, 2006 21:07

He's reading this thread right now from home, just not responding to build up some suspense. Next time look where the hell your going Josh.

Jackals April 30th, 2006 21:08

Best wishes Josh. It was nice to finally met you in person today, too bad your day had to end as it did. I hope you get well soon bud, we need you for Quander Down.

wolphsnyper April 30th, 2006 21:29

Get better soon Koke.
It made an aweful sound that made me instantly say "WTF was that?"

The pain medicine they put him on was very good. You could hear the heart monitor beeping away as they had him hooked up to it...then he recieved the needle and his heart rate almost instantly slowed down.

Kudos to Irish, Bullit and TC...we are in good hands with them there.

Wolf

Shephard April 30th, 2006 21:29

Sounds bad Josh, but not as bad as broken ribs but worse than bruising. Hope you recover fast as can be though buddy, need to have you out doing your thing for Kandahar Dawn!

BTW, those painkillers screwing your spelling of the pain of your injury? For about a week after I slipped on ice and work, landed on my right elbow and jammed my upper arm into my shoulder hard, I was in so much pain I had to move my right hand back & forth between the mouse and the keyboard, and typing was painful as well. Took about 3-4 weeks to get that to heal, and that was just a bruised A/C joint. So I don't blame you at all. Pain sucks sometimes, and you learn what you take for granted when you have that type of injury. Sleeping has got to be a real bitch for you as well. Best of luck!

empty_mags May 1st, 2006 09:40

lol Josh, I guess the injury affected your spelling too, that sucks. ;)

Anyways all the best old friend. Hopefully next time you are back in Edmonton, I will not be working and we can go out for drinks and get those kindeys doing their thing again.

two weeks, man I hate you.
I bet the MO'll take a look at you when you get back and think that you've got cancer or something :D damn medics.
take er easy man.
Greg

NuttyHunter May 1st, 2006 12:19

Fractures are harder/longer to heal then clean breaks. The bonus being that a clean brak has a more awkward heal. Drink milk, good for bones. As for the kidney... yeah don't be laughing any yime soon. I've made some of those silly laughing mistakes....

I give you 1 week and you'll be off the meds wanting airsoft, and then half an hour to decide to wait the extra week:D

Heal fast,

M

Black_Orchid May 1st, 2006 12:47

Geez I feel for ya Kokanee, I've been in the same boat as you. fractured ribs are not fun. Heal fast!!

Quantis May 1st, 2006 13:12

Get well soon man !

Kokanee May 1st, 2006 15:40

Thanks once again for the kind words everyone. The MO agreed w/ the civy doc and gave me two weeks of medical leave, so "OP: Lay in bed and watch tv" begins today...

Totally Mike, I'll make sure to give you a heads up if I'm able to make it back to Ed for this summer... I've been babying my kidneys lately anyway, and look how they repay me? Time to toughen them up so this doesnt happen again haha.
