Are 6mm bbs exactly 6mm?
Just curious if anyone has really accurate microcalipres, I have rather cheap plastic ones. It's not often projectiles are the dimensions they say they are, so I'm just curious.
|
Nope, 6mm BBs can vary a bit (relatively) in diameter depending on brand, off the top of my head we're talking about differences in the 0.0##mm range and always under under 6mm (so all BBs are 5.9##mm-something). Better BB brands are closer to 6mm and more consistent with their brothers and sisters, cheaper BBs are not. According to ILLusion, Guarder's the best when it comes to BBs. Crossman, with their *visible* seams, represent the other end of the spectrum.
|
Guarder BBs usually give the highest FPS as they are relatively larger than other BBs.

Here's somethng neat I came across regarding precision BBs. Looks like they are made this way, then have a softer plastic applied to the surface then polished to size and finish.

mini death stars.....HAHAHAHAHA....yeah they kinda do...lol
|
I personnaly use Stealth bb's, and i've measured a couple of them, just for the kicks... (was also worried about my 6.03 barrel and jamming possibilities). I ended up having a range of 5.97mm to 6.01mm, on around 30 bb measured. So I guess you can say they are ALMOST 6mm. (Never jammed in my 6.03 btw :) )

Ya, mini-death stars, except one is an "innie",
http://zappa.brainiac.com/spaceship/...eath-star.jpeg the other is an "outie". http://gungineer.cande.biz/meityu/me...u_jittai_1.JPG  |
Those aren't Death Stars.... They're POKEBALLS.

Still look more like 6mm boobs to me.
|
You've never seen a real boob, have you?
ZING!! :P |
IIRC, they are between 6-8mm.
|
Boobs have nipples, those BBs have nipples.
You boob! |
I have nipples stalker can you milk me?

Crossman ~6mm bbs? I've seen yellow Crossman bbs that were close to 7mm and jammed barrels, so Dozer's guesstimation is preatty accurate.
|
I'm sitting here with a caliper measuring my KSC BB's, so far they are all below 6.00mm, 5.96-5.98mm, but these are from the floor so I think they may already have been fired, they aernt fresh from the bag.

Bean, if you nipples produce milk, I'm never gonna look at your name the same way again. Lol |
Hmm, i got thinkin'. Golf balls have dimples in them. Aparently they produce a reduction in drag. Wondering if this would actually benefit in airsoft....

Ya, had thought of it as well at one point. Still think about how fascinating it is though (I LOVE aerodynamics and am fortuneate enough to work in a place that it's a mian point of research) and went as far as to think "Hmm, wonder if dimpling the exterior of a car would assist in fuel milage??
One fascinating thing I saw a few years ago, I think it was NASA that improved the drag co-efficient in an F-16 jet fighter by drilling thousands of tiny holes (with a laser) in the leading edge of the wings and pumping pressurized air into the leading edges (instead of air molecules rubbing on metal, the air flowed freely over air and reduced the vorticies that occur further back on the wing surface.) Damn man, aerodynamics are amazing!!!! |

Oh I"m sure more then that can be found in common... |
