IPSC airsoft competition

can anyone help me as to the basics items i need to convert my pistol into a airsoft IPSC style?

i have a hi capa 4.3 and i was told its not really recommended that i use it. but i'd like to build from that anyways.

i have installed:
aluminum slide
nine ball outer barrel
nine ball inner 6.03mm accuracy barrel
nine ball short stroke recoil spring

anything else?

hammer spring? % (percentage)?
firing pin?
high flow valve?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank in advance!

Which class do you intend to compete in?

:p

where in canada are you shooting IPSC?

ive wanted to do pistol-type stuff with airsoft for a while

Eddie February 27th, 2006 21:26

Damn that thing is ugly but theres a whole lot of custom in it.

It may be cheaper for someone to actually get their restricted PAL, and pickup an actual handgun, and compete in a stock gun IPSC class. Thats what I would personally do, but thats just me. Although its not as cheap to feed a 9mm as it is an airsoft. ;)

(Edit: But then again I guess thats always been the case with airsoft versus real. But in this peticular case if youre really interested in IPSC I would lean towards real, if that happens to fit your current situation.)

Since when can you use an airsoft pistol in IPSC?

pugs144 February 28th, 2006 00:16

I believe the original poster had airsoft IPSC in mind, rather than using an airsoft pistol for real-steel IPSC.

Greylocks February 28th, 2006 06:51

I know for a fact that an airsoft gun would not even come close to making it in a real IPSC competition. And you guys are correct; cheaper to get a PAL and a real .45

Scarecrow February 28th, 2006 09:20

Okay, I thought I was losing my mind. I've never seen airsoft at an IPSC comp and I wouldn't dare show up with one for fear of being laughed at to death.

The differences between shooting a real bullet and a BB are so vast that I think the dynamics of an IPSC shoot with airsoft guns would make it a rather boring event. Yes, you could use airsoft to practice in your basement to gain muscle memory for things like static positions, posture, transitions and so forth. But nothing replaces trigger time on the range.

It might be more interesting to create an airsoft specific combat shooting course that embraces those airsoft differences rather than try and apply real steel rules against weapons that don't meet those specifications. IPSC rules are also very much geared around safety, whereas you can be a little looser with airsoft and get into shooting that would never be allowed in an IPSC competition.

you can find IPSC airsoft competition mainly in asia countries like Hong Kong and Taiwan.

here are a few links:

www.airsoftipsc.org

actually i don't compete in any IPSC competition. a friend and myself compete against each other in the basement shooting dominos, cards, and paper targets.

i'm mostly a collector and would like to make the necessary mods so i can get an edge.

Thanks

If you're into more reality-based courses of fire, check out IDPA. Much more fun and they're not as uppity as IPSC guys LOL.

Using airsoft to train for IPSC may not be so farfetched since it looks like so many of them shoot with very light loads, in which case the recoil might come close to that of a propane running GBB. Can anyone confirm this? I also seem to remember a story about a Japanese chap who trains with airsoft as real-steel is banned at home, and goes over to the US competes in IPSC with a rental racegun. He seemed to place somewhere in the top 20.

Greylocks February 28th, 2006 16:39

If you're willing to pour in the cash, you could build a gun that closely resembles an IPSC gun in weight and features. Recoil? To match a .45? I dont think so.
Heck, I know so, from real experience.

Techniques that would apply in both games? There are several; aiming, drawing, holds, trigger control, speed.

Did you even look at the link? It's just five different coloured sets of matching levers, mag release and mag baseplate.

He wasnt asking if an airsoft could match a .45 in recoil. Of course not. Most IPSC shooters don't use .45. Most use 9mm with lower powered loads. That's what he was asking.

Pugs, me and my friend did some experimenting with custom loads in his Beretta 92FS, and even with the lesser loads, I have never fired an airsoft gun that has come close.

Glock18C February 28th, 2006 21:18

sorry for any confusions. nothing to do with any real guns here.

i'd just like to know if there are any modifications or such that i can make my hi capa 4.3 into a competitive pistol compared to Western Arms GBB 's that are mostly used in airsoft IPSC competition. :-?

Thanks

If you want one of those pimp custom GBBs some of the people in HK have expect to pay quite a lot. The custom slides and barrels they have cost a few hundred. Some even have full steel airsoft GBBs.

just like to keep it simple. no fancy scopes or anything like that. just internal mods.
