US Army MREs- *56k warning too lazy to resize
US army MREs:
Came across some of these. I think they're kinda neat so I thought id share. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...o/8d2e6689.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...o/bfe7e0b4.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...o/e19a55aa.jpg |
Hmm is there a point? lol
Most guys I know already seen MRE's and Many many eat them at airsoft milsims. You want cool you should check out the Brit 24hr rations. Enough Sugar and Candy to sweeten a Barrel of Lemon juice. And some other Amazing if not entirely edible entities. heh. |
Hey, I've never seen the contents of an MRE before ;)
Crack open the one of the bags, I wanna see if the stuff is visually appealing. :D |
so much better then what we get.
I gladly traded mine with the marines last october. still swipping em at work, I hate our IMP's. Greg |
I prefer the MRE's to IMP's. I usually get a couple of cases every year as they are dirt cheap in the U.S.. Last time I paid $40 per case, no shipping as my mother brings them back from her place in Arizona. I hope to get some more soon as I'm down to my last one. And there wasn't one in the menu "B" group that I didn't like.

MRE's are awesome, they taste pretty damn good actually. Ive had american and canadian. Looks like new packaging.
|
Turkey breast with gravy and potatoes- Its is serparated or just mashed together?
|
Damn, shouldn't have refused the offer for a box of it back when I had a friend in the US Army. :|
|
I prefer our IMPs for the meals, but the MREs have better snacks, except for those awful cinnamon heart thingies...
|
Just food but this is the first time ive ever seen them.
I got mine in a country outside of north america, I didnt even know u could buy these here hehe. Apparently, US soldiers abroad sell this food to locals in exchange for real food. Also, people, mainly US soldiers, steal supply and sell it on the street. The US Army :) |
mmmm lasagna..

Take a look at some of the rations from other countries. Somewhere in there I remember it saying the going trade rate for French rations was 5 to 1 (5 MREs = 1 French) since they are very good quality. I think that was on some peacekeeping mission or other. Check out the Russian rations. "I would not eat the ration again. The taste and quality were not good." I thought it was just exaggeration that they were bad! I had some British 24 hour ones too. Some good stuff in there, but holy moses talk about sugar! Their sugar package is probably 3 times the size of our sugar packages (you know, the paper ones you get in restaurants). Plus, even if you added one triple-size sugar to EVERYTHING that could possibly take sugar, you'd STILL have some left over! Even the desserts are really sweet. The treacle pudding was not bad but I had to stop eating cause my teeth were starting to hurt it was so sweet.... |

Found the link above from reading DonP's post, and on this one it says this: How long will it last? The shelf life of the MRE is three (3) years at 80 degrees F. However, the shelf life can be extended through the use of cold storage facilities prior to distribution. THREE YEARS?!... And it can be EXTENDED?!... am I the only scared of eating that stuff because of that fact?!..I mean if they were to say a general maximum of 3 years for shelf life, I'd be ",Cool, sounds fair." But to say it can be extended beyond that!... Wow, just think the next time you take a bite out of your government supplied food cartridge, this may have been cooked in a proccess plant, over 3 years ago!... Okay okay, when you're hungry, cardboard will do, so this is that much better. :D |

The box that my last group of MRE's came in (manufactured by SOPAKCO) gave a chart of shelf life vs. temperature. At 20c, the shelf life was 72 months and at 4c or fridge temperature, the life was 112 months. That's over 9 years! The stuff I had was made in 2003 and I ate them all in 2005 and they were all good.

Aren't MREs and other field meals specifically designed to last a long goddamn time? I mean, wouldn't it suck for you to draw the wrong box of MREs in prep for a two-week hump in some god-forsaken mountainous region, HALO out, set up camp, sit down for your first meal, and realize your MRE is expired?
Good MREs are supposed to cause constipation or other bowel-modifying movements. Imagine what expired/bad MREs would do. |

Dam, so much for just getting MRE boxes for when I move out again...
|
Well MREs may have good longevity but it won't survive a nuclear holocaust.

umm just dont foget to eat your desert if your on a longer game/excersize...
|
I can recommend the German EPA ('Einmannpackung'), that is not so practical, cause it has no Heater (it must be warmed up with an esbit cooker) and the menu selection is not so large, but in the comparison to the MRE it is tastier and enough for a whole day in the field.

anyone have contacts to buy those? I'd sure be interested in a box or two... good stuff for lunch at work :D
|
I can't possibly understand why anyone would want to eat rations by choice. Anyone care to explain it to me?
|
I don't think you'll get one in canada, so I recommend ebay.de, if the seller ship's worldwide - it's cheaper than some german army shops which sell it for the 1,5x of the normal price (8,90 euros - I bought my supply for 5 euro per piece).
btw: they are durable for 20-30 years, if stored cool and dry. @Amgoosen: If you are really hungry you will even eat that. ;) |

"You could win a trip for four to Barcelona to watch the Olympics!" Ya, as in the 1992 Olympics, and this guy was one of the first Americans across the Kuwait/Iraq border............ March/April 2003. |
stalker, we got that book at work, it's very good. If you haven't read the book written by the journalist that follows him around, Generation Kill, you should read that too :)
