Breaking news on the AK front

Just saw this on another forum
Gb-Tech AKS-74U Conversion kit
http://www.gb-tech.com.tw/images/New...4UN_Post_1.jpg

Reported to be all steel, and hopefully will be priced much nicer then the Guarder edition.
Hooray comrades!

BC_K December 22nd, 2005 01:20

ANOTHER friggin Kalashnikov! Pfft.

Warthog December 22nd, 2005 02:03

I really hope it has a decent price, anything over 400$ is freakin overpaying. I just don't get why most conversion kits actually cost more then the gun itself, I bet companies are making a 1000% profit margin off these if you consider they are just wood and metal. Interesting find nonetheless.

Mike the great December 22nd, 2005 02:58

ya that is nice, but i think i will wait for the rumored SRC AK74U and gut it :D

666 December 22nd, 2005 03:18

I wonder what that N in AKS74UN stands for.

Kokanee December 22nd, 2005 03:54

an ak74su recieved a "N" designator when it came fitted standard with the siderail for optics.

Skruface December 22nd, 2005 08:26

That GBTech pic is a bit dark but it looks like it has the side-folder folding to the wrong side....it would interfere with the installation of the side-mounted scope mount.

GB-Tech stuff is expensive. I've bought a lot of their products (which are pretty damn good) but the price tag hurts. My M60 outer barrel with gas tube, front sight, carry handle and flash hider was near $500 CAD.

By the looks of it, that hinge you see is actually the sling loop.

gb-tech is the japanese branch, vfc is the taiwanese branch. odds are it'll be quite well priced, not that it has to be if it's competing with the guarder kit :P.

A 74 with a fullstock?

No thanks, I think ill pass on this one. I just wait till a company releases a good priced AK-74SU.

The N stands for night vision (a NSPU night vision sight comes standard)

That kit looks friggin sweet, finally the Kalashnikov airsoft series are really starting to expand :-D

Cheers,
Alex

Good find Gish!

In the meantime I am still going to try and build myself one anyways, unfortunately without a proper conversion kit all I think I can do is make something that's "nice from far, far from nice".

I cannot lie, with all that hardware that is an ugly AK.

Dozer_01 January 31st, 2006 13:48

lol ya. AK's + goodies = no. Armalites on the other hand....you get my drift ;)

tiger-unit January 31st, 2006 17:21

Looks awesome, this is my favourite AK, ever since I saw James bond goldeneye lol

Mantelope January 31st, 2006 17:44

The PBS (8?) is sweet.

Well, that gun with the PBS-5 is pretty badass, but that Night vision scope has to go! I'd way rather see a Cobra ontop instead.

Drake January 31st, 2006 20:12

I suppose if you're in the dark, you're happy to have the night vision... and nobody can see your ugly gun (unless theirs is ugly too). So it all works out in the end :D

Gryphon January 31st, 2006 21:15

Next heathen who dares to speak ill of the Kalashnikov's aesthetics is gettin' a beat down! :smack:

Ace of Spades© January 31st, 2006 21:27

Am I the only one to see a bit of a problem folding the stock if you are using a NV or a RDS?

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...King/AKU47.jpg

It looks like it folds over too the left, and the mount is in the way.

Gryphon February 1st, 2006 01:09

That it does. Though one would have to question, if you are packing THAT thing what on Earth would you need to fold the stock for? :p

hksdu February 4th, 2006 21:19

The scope looks much more useful with a stock anyways :D
Am I the only one that thinks it's a beautiful AEG, but has an odd color pistol grip? never seen a krink with a grey one before :P

Not that that'll stop me from buying this....sigh....

yanhchan February 4th, 2006 21:21

I like the gun but seriosuly lose the weird looking magazine.

The magazines are probably changeable with AK47 ones, unless you mean the color, which yeah, it is an eyesore. hehe

Gryphon February 4th, 2006 21:33

At least it's authentic. The Russians have used black, plum, and orange (though not quite that gaudy) in their bakelite mags. G&P makes em in all colors, and Guarder makes them in orange with a 7.62mm profile if you want an AKMSU (my personal preference) rather than an AKS74U.

hksdu February 4th, 2006 21:51

personally, I have the STAR ones, and they look terrible and not very realistic at all. Plus they got some feeding problems i noticed, but at least it looks better in black than orange, i think everyone buying this gun wants it for the authenticity anyways.

I saw a waffle pattern extended RPK style magazine on sale around as well, for anyone who wants to have longer mags for their AKSU or whatever :P

Pip February 4th, 2006 23:38

With the nv unit, i'd prefer to throw it at someone rather than shoot....or drop it on the roadrunner....*meep meep*

Does anyone know the reason for the funky coloured mags? I've always wonderd...

Eddie February 5th, 2006 03:58

plastic = cheaper?

Quote:

Ba·ke·lite (bā'kə-līt', bāk'līt')

A trademark used for any of a group of synthetic resins and plastics found in a variety of manufactured articles.
Im not sure if that is the correct definition of 'bakelite' but it sounds right.

Igor01 February 5th, 2006 11:52

I think the types of resin used in the production of bakelite was the factor that determined the colour.

yanhchan February 5th, 2006 12:00

I guess its the russian way of production. Asthectics don't matter as long as it perfoms its job.
