Ares striker

Hey all I'm looking into getting one those who have it what are your thoughts how does it preform and what did you do for upgrades

Drakker January 13th, 2017 08:52

If you plan to do a low power build (< 400 fps), its excellent. If you want a high power rifle for long range, stay away from it and get something with a bigger cylinder that has enough air volume to push heavy BBs such as a Tokyo Marui VSR10.

Tuzi January 28th, 2017 11:40

I'll start by saying I actually have one.

The build quality is very good, and everything fits tight. No wobbles, creaks, and the polymer is strong and got a good texture. It doesn't feel like cheap crispy hollow plastic you will find on some other like rifles.
The outer barrel is the best quality out of box one, compared to all other vsr's i've worked on.
The inner barrel is well supported, the feeding mechanism is efficient, and the hop up is good and stable...however once a scope is mounted, it's annoying to do any adjustments cause it's essentially covered.
Spring change is quite easy. Make sure you take the cylinder out and lubricate, as I it is a bit dry from factory.

In testing.... After zeroing in... 75% of shots within 0.75" at 55' with 0.20g and original spring, fps 385avg.

After spring change to an m140, and zero in, 90% of shots within 3/8" at 55' with 0.2g, and 480fps... the bolt draw required more strength to pull the stronger spring, but it was not difficult or unpleasant.

I haven't tried it with longer distances yet, waiting for spring weather. Also waiting for the co2 cylinder to come out.
For the fields locally available, and for how seldom I play, I am not concerned whatsoever about the European's issue regarding cylinder volume.

I would have liked the butt pad to have had a rubber or other softer material piece to rest against, but so far, very happy with purchase.

Aldrinor February 5th, 2017 11:43

Would the rifle improve by shortening the inner barrel to 430mm? To improve the ratio between barrel and cylinder volume.

Drakker February 5th, 2017 12:52

That would help for sure, but if you want a short rifle you might as well get a VSR10 G-Spec.

ThunderCactus February 5th, 2017 15:29

Making the barrel shorter won't increase muzzle energy

BobbyDangerous February 5th, 2017 23:54

Too me. It's totally something to I want to work. Seal the cylinder tighter. I double o ring

my AEG's. I can get 350fps with .30's with an M100.

I think after RHOP or SHOP. A spring swap and some lubing and double printing the Piston. I could get a lot from just the stock spring.

ThunderCactus February 6th, 2017 12:38

Keep us up to date on the mods =)

cetane February 6th, 2017 12:58

It sure is a pretty rifle, and for the price I may get one once they start poping up used.

Someone someday will get a hpa setup for it working which solves any voluming issues..

This is what I am waiting for also, I hear an HPA mod is in the works.

DENZILDON March 28th, 2017 13:21

Just going to update this one, if you are planning to get one or have one. Join the Ares Amoeba Striker AS01 owners in FB.

Everything you need to know about this gun is there from issues to resolutions.

Quick info:
Dual Bore barrel is out
Edgi upgrade kit is out
Mancraft gas kit is out
Upgraded hop up is currently being tested

This gun with minimum upgrades can perform very well. Will it match a vsr 10? Not yet, but again, its a new gun and the fb group have been really good in testing and giving a lot of info for improvements.

ThunderCactus March 28th, 2017 19:01

Now this gun is probably built better than their MSR338 internally, I have one but haven't had a chance to take it apart yet.
I could have made the shitbox MSR 338 on par with any other 400ft bolt action out there, it's REALLY not difficult for me to make a bolt action accurate.
The only thing the striker is going to fall short of a VSR on is the muzzle energy. But I've got some plans and I'll let you all know how it turns out...

Datawraith March 28th, 2017 19:34

Just a heads up, ASGI put out a PSA notifying people that the Striker was prone to slam-firing even with the safety engaged.

BobbyDangerous March 28th, 2017 20:11

Got one. Got it to 490fps with a m140 AEG spring.

It's BS. It's all over the Striker Facebook page and not one person has had this issue.

DENZILDON March 28th, 2017 20:25

There's a couple that had issues about the slam firing but it's easily resolved by adjustments and minor tech work. That vid is pretty much a way to push the elit force striker version.

Man, so many propaganda videos on this sniper rifle and yet actual users that I've seen are having fun with it with just a hop up rubber and spring upgrade.

Nice to see familiar names! Hey, join us on the fb page for striker owners. Lots of info and mods, it may help you with your plans.

It's probably because of the sear adjustment. People are adjusting them too low. I know out of the box you want to bring it down a tad so it is not scraping the bolt. I did but I lock tight it after.

I swapped it for a modify 70* VSR10 hop up. I posted a pic
Of mine on the Amoeba striker Facebook page. It's my first bolt action. I fell in love with it after learning about the Mag feed and just the shape of it.

Yup!

If the mancraft gas kit reviews are good, let's see if stores can keep these guns in stock. We'll see in a couple of weeks.

Oooh? Who's got it? Now I gotta do some searching. Thanks for the fyi.

DENZILDON April 1st, 2017 13:55

Reposting here for those users that's not on the fb page.

So did the teflon mod, credit card mod, 90 degree, shim, installed m150, cut the bridge, installed maple leaf hop up and grinded the pins on the bolt.

Shot through the edge of a Coke can and almost went through top Coke can middle.
Bolt return is good as well but I still have to do the cylinder polish mod.

For a cost of spring and hopup. That's amazing! Easiest gun I worked on.

ThunderCactus April 1st, 2017 14:32

Going to see if I can make new cylinder guides for mine. The amount of loose in the cylinder is comparable to the snow wolf M24. Pretty terrible.
Haven't had much time to work on it though. Been busy with some other pants dropping projects lol

WELL totally different design, I'd need a whole new plastic sleeve to fix it. That idea was short lived.
Either way, shooting 1.81j with no mods. Threw an Rhop in it. We'll see how it does.

Chlorum April 3rd, 2017 05:11

As I understand, Striker isn't a replica of some real rifle, is it?

Barrel

Can anyone tell me what the length of the inner barrel is? It's VSR compatible barrel right?

dimoes April 5th, 2017 08:59

It looks a little like the Magpul Hunter 700 Stock Remington

Think 575mm don't quote me on that.

No

The furniture is more or a Magpul style design of anything.

Think mine will break shape before yours. I have 2 different rifle ghillie wraps for mine as well. I'll post a pic of it.

Cool, saw it online overseas... looks nice and very flexible to customize fit. Should be here soon according to chatter... gonna guess between $80-$110cad when it hits the shelves initially.

No word yet on the co2 kit tho...

dimoes April 6th, 2017 18:43

Not that it's a problem as I can't go over 450 FPS on my local field but I really wish they would release a cylinder volume upgrade.

I think they have. People are dumping 160's in them and they're handling it. Getting over 500

Ares Amoeba Striker S1 Review + Thoughts by Novritsch

Where have you seen this cylinder *volume* upgrade?

I wouldn't worry about cylinder volume as owners have been reaching 300-350 feet no problem. Although we haven't tried testing joule difference between the stock and edgi kit. I'll ask the boys to do some chrono tests.

Also people just started receiving their mancraft co2/hpa conversion kit and we should see some results in a few weeks.

Here's sniper mechanic's modded gspec striker with his joule results.
http://www.snipermechanics.com/singl...more-effecient

BobbyDangerous April 7th, 2017 06:41

I misread the volume part.

Doesn't matter look at all the short stroke AEG's.

FPS doesn't really mean that much. Accuracy is more.

Reaching 300-350 and hitting a target with force, or just reaching?

Only use sniper in winter, so co2 might not be too useful for me. Not a fan of HPA.

Do you really want to run around with this fugly thing?

If a person is getting hits at 300 feet, who cares about force.

Your questions is a bit biased based on what you prefer. If you don't like the gun then don't get it. I'm happy with it so as other owners.

Don't want to run a stubby then go for this mod.

Getting a hit at 300ft doesn't really matter if you have to yell at them in order for them to realize they're being hit with BBs and not just crap being blown around by the wind.

ThunderCactus is right, the force of the hit does matter. A weak hit is no better than a miss as it doesn't generate the same thud and can't be felt.

I own this gun and like it very much, but do wish they would release a cycliner volume upgrade.

For now, I plan to just shorten the inner barrel to 455mm and make an air tight seal on the piston/cyclinder

Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

DENZILDON April 12th, 2017 02:13

Tough crowd in here. Lol! Based on my latest results 0.4 averaging 2.45 joules and 362 fps.
You want to get higher joules shorten it or get an edgi dual barrel. Most are running 0.36's as a good balance of accuracy and range.

As I stated before , currently it will not or may not at all be at par with a vsr but for a $250 sniper gun with a $50 to $100 upgrade is a good option. Again these are just tools, it's still the player who pulls the trigger

dimoes April 21st, 2017 23:37

Bolt Handle Ball Bearing

I just replaced the bolt handle. This little ball bearing came out when I remove the old one. Thing is, I have no idea where it belongs. The bolt handle seems to work just fine without it.

It was covered in grease.

ThunderCactus April 22nd, 2017 09:49

there's a bearing that clicks into a recess on the back of the bolt, much like a selector switch
Should be a hole in the bolt handle on the bolt side with a spring in it, that's where the bearing goes

BobbyDangerous April 26th, 2017 11:11

What inner Barrels are everyone going with?

DENZILDON April 26th, 2017 23:32

Any vsr 550mm tightbore will do.

DENZILDON June 7th, 2017 11:27
