Just curious about the Old-Timers?
Hey guys, I was wondering if any of the guys that were around era pre-2008 are still around? Like Tru and Illusion, the London and Toronto guys that used to play outdoor games at Flag Raiders are still around and playing?
Would like to come back to the game and get back in better shape, but don't want to be the only old fart there. |
TRU has been Missing in Action. There was a rumor that he now own an island somewhere and he is treated like Royalty.
Illusion is around, would come out once in a blue moon, literally. In other words, yes we are still around. Broken, grumpy, and still kicking ass. You should come out and help us push all the wheelchairs! |
Most people that played on regular basis when I stated moved on or moved out of the area. I saw Wildcard about a year ago at local CQB night, I also see one/two guys who started Vietnam theme years ago but I see them at living history events, don't know if they come out to airsoft games.
|
Wives, Businesses ... real guns, real games .. many have to pick and choose their time and place to participate, time is at a premium.. but many are still around
|
Kids, friggn kids. And the wife. Should have been a hermit
|
Old?
|
Real steel has won me over mostly. Did a lot of airsoft in my younger days then joined the CF for a few years. Now I have kids and I'm out of the CF I find myself looking to get back into airsoft
|
out of the country for several years. Back now
|
Hey Splinter, you are from the area... did we ever meet?
|
Old flag raiders, you say? Kitchener, you say? We probably met at a few games. I've been lying low in airsoft for several years due to being busy at work but am now getting more active again.
|
Who dare awaken me from my slumberhttps://scontent-yyz1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...59&oe=5713AC2B
|
Well, if you played with a guy whose wife also played along side him, that was me. Hell, she was just as deadly as most of the guys were, I have to give her credit for that.
Well, we are split and I have alot of nothing to do, so I think I am going to be playing this year as much as I can and try and get myself in a bit better shape. Anyone that is going to Mondays indoor Flagraiders game, can you bring a charger? I cannot find mine. PS. Nice one Maddog. |

first time I come here in years and I see this thread...
I'm into motorcycles now. I kept the gear though, just in case. I don't feel like shooting bbs anymore...It feels stupid... :( what happened ? |

Airsoft was causing more stress than fun.
I got into a Arma 3 group to fix the craving. I then got a house and a kid. |
I'm still around too. Don't say much or get out too often now but did take my son to Ultimate Airsoft a few of times last year to introduce him to airsoft. Otherwise, it's the once/year with Force Recon to the US for a big event (wife permitting, of course).
|
This is neat seeing how many of us are still around after all these years.
|
Old Guys yeah, most are still around just not playing. or posting. Some are now Bottle feeding, most got a job, a car, a piece of ass, and a pain in the neck. Its been soooo long now some are returning to the game. Try an Old Timers Name Game. Third World used to host games at Sgt Splatters, and what was the name of the guy who was a Mod here that was team lead on Phoenix Connection?
|
This thread has me thinking, perhaps in the spring I should host an "old timers league" game at finch field.
Get some of you guys who have been away a while out without all the newer younger guys around so we can "kick it old school" I know I haven't been around as long as most but I also know that a lot of you guys were the guys kicking around here and at the games I started at and I miss the "good old days" (as many have heard me complain) when everyone knew everyone and we could all shoot all day and drink all evening with no hard feeling because we'll there were no bad calls lol. |
but who will cover the knee surgeries and hip replacements that will follow?
who will push the wheelchairs through the woods? What about the pacemakers? don't wanna break those |

There was a time when we would go out and play all day and go back to the restaurant where I worked and had a few beers with dinner after the game and just unwind before having to drive home. Add to that, TRU was even a guest at my wedding. I still have the wedding gift he gave me 15 years later... But ya, at 43 years old, I am thinking of starting to play again. I am just waiting to find some parts for my MP5k to have a working gun. Have to admit I had alot of fun with those guys and am hoping that I can find the comradeship again like the "old" days. |
Still Kicking, just don't use AK's as much.

That or getting wiser, but I doubt it's the former :D |
When you started airsoft, it was the guns that drew you in, after a while and thousands of BBs later, it was the people that kept you in, as some of them drifted away there was little left to hold you.
You can find it again, but I find the "mature" players need more of a challenge, More immersion more of a deep and sharp break from their day to day reality. For me, I found WWII reenacting, It feeds the need and eliminates the "techwars" that is a feature of today's airsoft scene. No cheaper that is certain, but far far more fulfilling, with the added feature of learning about History. |
I guess I'm still around. Started a store now. Play a heck lot less now due to other life obligations.
Guns got cheaper and are more abundant. Walk-in stores are in every major city centre across the country. Parts got cheaper and better in quality. Fields got a lot nicer. Lots of indoor and outdoor options. Communities grew. Airsoft Canada used to be the only place to gather. Local forums and Facebook groups are everywhere now. |
This is the ASC I miss.
A lot of the guys I know are getting away from it due to the "Facebook" Airsoft scene going on now. Brian's pretty much nailed it. For me, I miss the old scene. You did stupid, you got treated stupid. No baby gloving. The maturity level was higher. It's also now just a game of "pay2win", so a lot of us just severely limit where and when we play. I remember showing up to my first game in mid 06........ If you had a 203 and some Tri-Colour desert with a skateboard helmet, you were the cool guy (it was ASC's Black Hawk Down era) |
We need you old guard guys. I love the nigh vision and all that but what I hate. is the Fakebook dude bro airsoft attitude. I started airsofting to escape it. but it's trying to follow me. the Cod kids and like attitude needs to be purged. I don't even do most open days or super busy events. I cant stand seige Saturdays.
I'm glad you guys are still around. also picked up a K98k and mp40 recently still looking into WW2 |
do people still play at flag raiders? that was some of the first airsoft games I had attended.
|
Not one of the old guard (in fact, I'm a complete greenhorn compared to you oldies :P), but yes we do, both the indoor and outdoor field. Outdoor season's been over a few weeks already, so indoor just started to ramp up, although honestly, Siege is lightyears better than FR indoors. FR outdoors is a great GTA outdoor field though.

Still active but like previously mentionned, free time is premium shit with busy careers, kids, ect.
I don't play as often because it seems the good quality games are way behind us. I always scan for good games during the season and i'm always disappointed and end up not moving my ass for a game during the whole year. I guess i'll die old school. |
I have known Joe at Flag Raiders for 2 decades. I am sure that if we got 20-25 guys on a weekend during the winter he will let us play.
Back in the old days we didn't let a little thing like winter stop us from playing. All we need to do is pick a date and see how many guys will sign up and then talk to Joe about opening the field. Just curious, but was anyone here that played that full weekend game in Ottawa. I think it was in 2000 or '01. |
Well hi there, still around after leaving for a while. Now I'm just ultra picky about the games I attend.

Same as everyone else really. Mind you I'm not as old school as MANY on here but got a job with the railroad so my time goes to work, family, and then I just try to see as many friends as I can.
But every time I go out I find there is less and less respect between players. Guys who open up on you after you flanked them and tried to do the right thing and mercy them to avoid nailing them from close range. All in all things change, time gets less abundant, and life happens. |
There is quite a few of us 40+ rolling around in our wheelchairs at UA on Friday nights. You are welcome to join.
|
Checking in. Yay me.
|
I'm not old. I am just well seasoned.
Hey Malinak, you still have my french camo that you stole from me for a ridiculous price? :D BTW anybody besides Primus remember Capital Thunder, the original in the Marlborough Forest? |
I might win 1st place for the youngest oldtimer award!! 26 and going strong, as for the rest of the old boys I think we might need a defibrillator on the field if there was to be a oldtimers game. Maybe oldtimers vs noobies milsim..
So many names I remember are suddenly starting to appear. I remember my first 2 airsoft guns were from the pimp himself TRU TM mp5a4 and mk23 NBB |

When I joined ASC, I was no-where near old enough to play... and now when I see names like Snow Dragons, Contras, Phoenix Connection, FoxDen airsoft, the LZ and others.... shit does the nostalgia hit me hard. I wish I had been old enough play in those times :/

Whatever happened to ZeonPrime and TokyoSeven?
|
Zeon is still kicking
|
Zeon has been lying low in the last couple years, he will be back out there soon, I'm trying to get him out to a game
|
How do you get the "old guard" out? you start early, you plan long, you select who comes. you expect half to jam out last minute.
in short you INVITE them. |
LOL,
the oldguard is so old that they are newbs now. |
Damn...
I am old now. |

Did anyone here ever hangout with Kampfer? He's a cool guy. I think he's still around and goes to the odd game here and there but his job keeps him real busy. I talked to Optix a few months ago, sounds like he's a super busy dude with a career now. Willie W. from SpecArms isn't allowed to have contact with the community anymore but I remember someone mentioning that he's involved with JDM imports now. |
I thought Will's no-contact thing was a condition of his two years less a day?

Was Malinack at OPCT 1? Man if you were able to score a set of ultra-rare fatigues off of Pockchop then you certainly earned some rep points there.
Still around, got into Hockey but slowed down on the ice time the past year - would be interesting to get out to some of these local indoor places. Best times were all the road trips to Ottawa, Rigaud, Rawdon, and other epic locations in eastern Canada - sometimes the trip there and back was just as fun as the event. We had an OP CT 2 Pbase account a long time ago, I am sure those photo's are out there somewhere still if you go searching for them. |

Old but still in it
God, I remember PQAC with Raven!
I think the only guy still here that I know is drake, and I have been in and out of airsoft. I've only gone back really for the milsim and nightfall games, but my main issue is finding people who want to play in my area. God, 47, I even remember playing paintball with CO2 cartridges, but airsoft just clicked for me. I remember when Tru was the only good way of getting new airsoft in! Damn, I'm getting old. I still have my old PQAC card!!! Number 0005 :p Snake out ;) |
I haven't even found time to charge a battery and shoot something n my garage let alone game. Would be fun to get out sometime soon. Has popularity grown in the "sport"
|
Malinak... That's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time...
|
Damn, the names in these posts. I am now one of the old geezers too *sigh*

Malinak... You popped into my head about a week ago. How weird is that? I'm still here. I remember you. You might remember me.
- meta - meat - Sean Been here doing this shit since 1998. Like the rest of the old guard, been doing it since most of these new "veterans" we're learning how to use a spoon. |
Man... so many familiar names that I haven't seen for so many years. I remember the golden era of airsoft in Canada *tear* :'(
|
Remember when you could buy an airsoft gun, put in upgrades and it'd be worth more when you sold it?
|
Remember all the times the sky was falling and we buried said guns in our backyards?

I am not that interested in going through everyone's posts to see what they did with mary joe rotten crotch this week just to find a game or be constantly asked to take this online quiz test so you can authorize the company to steal all your personal data. There is much to be said for having a dedicated resource that removes the clutter of other bullshit we don't need to see. Now back to watching my CRT TV and VCR in the basement ;) |
