Watches

Can anyone recommend a good watch? I had a Casio that died due to shitty battery replacement. I would like a good, large, sturdy, waterproof military type watch.
Any thoughts?

Casio Pathfinder tripple sensor.

You said Big, well, this watch is big.

Built in digital compas, barometer, altimeter and thermometer.

Also give time!

Chrono, alarm... all the shits you need.

Also a cool feater that detect your wrist inclinason and automaticaly turn on the back light.

Price range should be around 150-250$. I had this one for my birthday a couple of years ago and costed about 250$.

Sweet! I had one of those as a kid!

gandar September 29th, 2005 14:23

They're not big, but most of my buddies in green swear by Ironman watches. I agree. They're bulletproof in the field, and no worries about getting it muddy or wet or anything.

yanhchan September 29th, 2005 14:26

baby G shock's are said to be able to with stand 500 FPS .20 gram BB. I dunno never tested it but i buy wal mart watches and they're indestructable for airsofting

mctaz September 29th, 2005 16:33

good military watch is Stocker & Yale sandy P650 (more ligth with fiber case) or sandy P660 (Stainless steel case), other good watch is citizen automatic divers wacth.

At this moment i use one citizen automatic with titanium case and i'm happy (there aren't in photo)

I love all these expensive watches designed(or so they say) for the military, etc. In reality, myself an others just use cheap timex watches, their good an reliable an can take a beating.

I'm not in the military but I just buy cheap 15$ digitals and use them till they die and then buy a new one, I'd hate myself for fucking with a 200$ watch.

Chingyul September 29th, 2005 22:14

mctaz: Those are the authentic SandY watches right?
I have the replica ones made by H3 (formerly Traser). On the surface they look identical. Tritium vials look great at night.
Authentic
Replica

The marathon TSAR looks nice too, but way out of my price range.

McTaz, which watch there has the green holder doodad?

Chingyul September 29th, 2005 23:05

I think it's the Marathon Navigator on those military bands that Eagle and Blackhawk (and probably others) make.

Wow nice and H3, how much you buy it for? I always wanted one.

Trixter September 30th, 2005 00:12

Woohoo! A new era of "whorage" has spawned. No longer are gearwhores to be envied. It's all about the watch whores now!

I use an Armitron watch. I've had it for about 2 years now, and the only thing wrong with it is that the straps are becoming unwoven (due to me picking at it with a pencil all the time). I've put my watch through a lot of abuse and it's still standing strong.

Holy crap Homes, that thing should be hanging around your neck from a chain. Catch what I'm sayin', Flav?

I have no idea what brand of watch that us CF guys get issued, but they're utter crap. It takes nothing to lose, break or otherwise mutilate them. They keep time fine, but suck in general. Pilots on the other hand sometimes get various Omega timepieces. Damned expensive, some more than a decent Rolex. Nice though, should you ever get your paws on one. Me, I use an old school pocket watch. It's the only kind I've never killed or gotten caught in machinery.

I've got Russian Vostok watch with a tank on it :) Water proof for i think 10 meters, tough (droped from 5 story window, did break). This is my 2nd Vostok. Tough buggers.

supersized September 30th, 2005 01:51

What is your budget?

There's sooo many to choose from. ie from Timex to Seiko to IWC.... it's a pretty large range.

Omega Seamaster.... one sweet watch!

Chingyul September 30th, 2005 02:18

I got mine for about $200 CDN shipped. I had to get it forwarded up here since the seller wouldn't ship to Canada.

Lerch September 30th, 2005 04:32

I've got a watch made by BodyGear (that's all I know, some kid left it on his bunk one day). It's got the whole analog/digital setup. I went and bought a watch-cover from the Canex too, so now it's great in the field

Yup, good ole Timex Ironman watches. THey are freakin buletproof(not literaly). You want a military style watch, well like was said, 20-30 bucks at walmart, and you got the exact same watch that like 80% of the CF uses.

I've broke several $150+ watches in the field already :D
just bought a $320 watch that has no special features to it, lets see how long that one takes to break. mwahahahaha.
some guys over in my unit wear those fancy watches. but usually we just get something from wal-mart.

like i said before there are good watch (not military issue) with low price,
my last is one titanium automatic citizen diver's watch (you can find this only in some country),
automatic movement, titanium case, sapphire crystal, tritium paint on dial, waterproof to 200M..... a good choice for a good watch

I've got the same watch, it's a nice peice of equipment for sure. Got a hell of a deal on it as I got it used from a budy of mine for $125. I wear it all the tiem for work and play and only has a couple small scuffs on it to show for wear. Overall i'm impressed how well it stands up to abuse of day to day activities as most $15 walmart specials only last me a month or so before they break. Worth every penny i spent on it.

Quality Watches

I recently bought an Aeromatic 1912 "Classic Calendarium" automatic watch from eBay.com Can not comment on its quality since I have not received it yet. I will, however, tell you that the best watch for the money is still a Seiko Model 5 automatic watch. Many styles in both men and women's models are available on-line from overstock.com, bidz.com, or eBay.com
I am wearing a Seiko 5 Sports model with "Lumibrite" dial right now. It keeps near perfect time and is very stylish too. Invicta is another brand that has good automatic watches available at these same sites, although I do not own one myself. Prices range from $50.00 US to $200.00 US with shipping varying from $3.95 to $15.00 US. I am a bit prejudiced about automatic watches since the Seiko 5 that I gave to my father in 1970 is still working perfectly (with only maintenance being a new bracelet and crystal). I hope this information is of use. If you need more help, e-mail me directly: jimparadisjr@hotmail.com

P11 Deuce October 8th, 2005 10:33

I was thinking about getting this watch, seems to have everything i need + alot more. Seems a bit pricey though, around $400 CAD.

Gotta love the "Radiation Logo"...heheh.

All have the "Stop Second hack movement (movement stops when stem is pulled out)" so you can sync watches as needed.

They are also all lit with Tritium, so approx 12 years of "glow in the dark"...heh.

You can only buy "sanitized" versions publically, but if you search around (especially eBay), you can buy the Official Gov. Issue with NSN (Nato Standard Number) on the back. Typically run from $100-$200 on eBay depending on your luck.

There is also a guy here that sells them, but some of them look like sanitized versions (no Gov. Issue logo etc):

They are actually in Richmond Hill Ontario of all places!
