So N00Bly, I've gotta ask.
Gentlemen, I have a few inquiries about where to buy guns, as I'm in PEI, and it makes it a little difficult. We only have a couple fields where you can play airsoft, so there are a lot of casual playing spots, and a small collective of information to pull from.
So, I know what I'm looking for for the most part, now the only matter to deal with is: Where to find such items, and how much should they run me, as well, give some recommendations if you wish LOOKING FOR: Sniper: Semi-Auto. Preferred: MK14 EBR. Attachments wanted: Strap, Grip-Pod, 8x zoom optic, holographic sight, Aiming Laser SMG: MP7, MP5K, P90, or Vector preferred (No particular order of preference) Attachments: Strap, Foregrip, Holographic Sight, Aiming Laser, STROBE FLASHLIGHT** Assault Rifles: FN FAL, C8, ACR, SCAR-H, SCAR-L, G36C (Compact, with stock), TAR-21 (Preferred order) Attachments: Strap, Foregrip, Holographic Sight, Aiming Laser, Strobe Flashlight Pistols: Mark 23, USP-45, Browning HP/M1911 Knife ideas are good too, as well as what I should use for a knife. Are there any fake knives that you guys know of that come with sheaths? I was going to use lipstick jammed in to mark the blade, that way if I "cut" or slit someone's throat, it adds realism to the act. GEAR: Tac-Vest Molle Bag BDU PANTS/SHIRT/JACKET Helmet Ghillie Suit The methods that I play by are light supportive fire, covering fire for one unit only if needed. Quiet, stealthy. I enjoy close engagements, and sneaking around. I'm looking for equipment that can help with this, as well as some guns that could be awesome as well. Overall estimations for the kits you're thinking would be nice. Also, if there are magazines available for them, 2-4 for each, as well as reloaders. **ABOUT STROBES** The reason I want strobe lights is they work to disorient, instead of simply providing light, and blowing cover. If you're going into a close quarters situation, and it's dark, the strobe is perfect to blind your enemies, and have a bit of an upper hand, especially if you move smart. If you know of any helmets that have areas to affix, and strobes for that, I would actually rather run the strobe on my helmet than on each gun. |

if you "slit someone's throat" with your rubber knife, prepare to pack up and never return to any game that i influence. A tap with the flat of the rubber blade signals a knife kill. PERIOD

As Rusty Lugnuts has said, use of a knife in a kill is a symbolic act, not an imitation of the act. There is a difference between channeled aggression in Airsoft, and psychotic acts.. 'slitting' someone's throat, even with a rubber knife, is bordering on psychotic behavior.
Good luck with the knife kill tap-out thing regardless, chances are that you'll be a far better BB-magnet, before you are collecting knife-kills. Not an easy thing to do, bringing a knife to a gun-fight, and getting away with it.. |
Until you get age verified, you aren't going to get info on where to get guns on ASC.
|
You would just be making enemies by reaching around someone and trying to slit their throat with a lipstick covered rubber knife, and end up smearing that stuff on their gear, so I wouldn't recommend it. Tapping someone lightly on the shoulder is much more simple.

The man with the oddly specific location profile speaks the truth ^

Also Jordan, my location is pretty specific. You can narrow me down to a 6x6 mile grid. |
I was speaking of that because I've only played with friends so far, and we've done things like that (We've been friends for many many years), and no gear, so we've never had that to worry about. Seabass, you can verify me at any time, I'm in Charlottetown.
I'm also not looking to go all out knives and run around slicing people like it's Call Of Duty, but if the opportunity presents itself, I'll take it, or stick-up. Shelled Pants: I have no idea what you're trying to say with that. I'm not going to be running with it on all the time. Only during building-clearing, and CQB if I can get it on fast enough. |
Im in grande prairie for the winter, your gonna need to get in touch with phil over at RIA, also if you have a building to clear on Pei please share it with the community. The boys would love to move indoors for the cold season.

Trust me when i say that you do not want to have lipstick or any indicating paint on the blade of your knife. If your going to try and grab someone and slit their throat your giving out the invitation for a punch in the goggles. I am all for peaceful resolution to conflict but if someone puts something to my neck and makes a cutting motion on the field first they are getting an elbow to the gut then a upper cut to the chin. Its not safe practice as well because this act could also remove eyepro or mesh masks from peoples faces causing major safety issues for the field hosts as well as the person your doing it to. Also if you mark up my gear and I cannot wash it off your buying me new gear...
|
Also, Most field I know don't allow people to have lasers on there airsoft, too dangerous for the eyes.
|
Attend a few games and then re-write your list. You'll find some ideas like a white light beacon on your lid don't play out the way you expect. Same goes for the mechanics of a knife kill.
|
Yeah, like I said I've only played casual, its not like I've already geared up and have a lot of experience, but when it comes to combat terms, and methods, I know what I'm doing there. As for what's regulation, I have no idea, and a strobe for the helmet isn't always going to be on during gameplay, but one for the guns is probably better, less area for head to be visible.
Rethinking the knife idea, seems a lot of people are against it, so that's that. Im not exactly sure what "regulation" attachments, and stuff are, (like lasers being mentioned) I was kind of hoping you guys could fill in the slots on that too. |

To start out for gear i would recommend a light assault vest a dump pouch and a grouping of four mag holders. as well if you are going to run a knife somewhere to sheath it. For helmets i would recommend a fast helmet with rail attachment poins to mount your light as well as a camera if you ever get that serious. For main arm attachments I would recommend a 110lumen flashlight with pressure switch as well as your choice of aimpoint/eotech sighting system. Would also recommend front and rear flip sights. A good sling is also very good. Mesh face guard with ansi rated goggles and your kitted and ready to play. |
How much would a helmet cam run? Estimated?
|
don't use a rubber knife to slice some player throat, players do not take kindly of you running a training weapon across their throat, if it were to happen to me, i would whip out a folding knife and stab you out of personal safety, rubber or not, you are getting a stab from me, if you are not lucky, if you are, just a very solid rifle to the face
my two cents given, in essence beware of people's reaction Quote:

Kind of going overboard there redzaku, lol.
I'd be fine with someone running their knife across my throat, if I knew that someone would actually be doing it (eg the game organizer explained the rules would be throat slitting, instead of tapping). The biggest problem is definitely that when you start wrapping stuff around another person's neck, you have the potential to bump off their goggles. The biggest concern is if they're wearing the mesh half mask. If the mesh gets bumped up, so do the goggles. A paintball mask at least has the full surface that will continue to cover the eyes from head-on impact, even if the goggles get moved upwards. The second biggest problem is just invading another person's personal space, and the potential for real harm. People might not go as far as stabbing you back with a real knife, but they might instinctively snap their head back, straight into your nose, or something. As for a helmet cam, it can run you anywhere from $20, to $600+, depending on how good you want. I got a cheap $20 cam that actually works better than any $20 cam deserves to. It even does half-decent in low-light conditions (it's not good, but you can actually make out what's happening, unlike most cellphone cameras). On the other hand, you can get GoPros and Contours, with added gadgets and cool crap for several hundred dollars. If you want to make nice videos, you're looking in the few-hundred-bucks range. |
THe only reason a knife slice was an idea was because a few of my friends are military, and when we play around, they like to do full combat sim, but minus simunition, and real rifles, obviously. I was just looking to bring that added aspect over, and try to intensify the game a little bit more.
|
Stop trying to justify it; its never going to fly here. Just drop it and walk away.
|
even with today's prices you're looking at a pricey shopping list there if you want one of each category.
|
I'm justifying why I brought it up as an idea, not saying I expect it to be accepted based on those grounds.
Also, I'm not necessarily looking to get it all in one fell swoop, since Its cold, and I don't know of any areas that would be regular Indoors, and wont need to maintain, or use my guns, and gear, i can stock up while its cold, and come out when i finally do have everything i would want to start with. I would want smg, pistol, vest, helmet, and sniper |
ASC noob tank FAIL.
the poor bugger just wants to know where to buy gear. who the fuck cares how he uses a fake knife. he'll get sorted out when he actually plays. why don't you all just chill the F out and help out the dude that lives on an island get into the sport |
Noob tank or not this is a bad place to think out loud or play the devil's advocate.
|
+1 its the Noob Tank not the Free For All Idiocy Tank.
Learning starts here. And building a realistic idea of what he'll encounter on the field will help him make appropriate decisions about what he needs rather than wasting money pursuing ideas that won't hold water in the real world. |
Just us that there google thing a bunch. You'll make way more friends on here. Attend a few games our guys on the island have a pretty good selection of gear/guns/cameras/rubber knives you'll learn more by stopping by the field than asking questions here
|
Its all about exposure. He can take what has been said here and use it in games in the future. We have only told him what might happen if he might attempt certain things. As for the gear you are looking for indeed check out your local arena and shop for prices and details. Thats a good want list for what you want to start out with. I would suggest getting the sniper last because (Not knowing what indoor facilities you have out there in PEI) some indoor fields are either to small or have FPS limits that most if not all snipers go over. I would focus solely on getting your SMG skills up to snuff as well can getting your kit up there with your mag pouchs and radios(If you join a team). Then worry about expanding. Get good with the basics then advance.
You say that you have only done Skirmishes with your friends. Its a bit different when running scenarios or attending milsims. You hav eto get good with what you know then expand into other roles. You sound more like a recon/scout with how you said you like to play. So gear for you might be a battle belt with a few pouchs and a dump pouch, so you can stay fluid and move more efficiently. This can be brought up at your local store and the owners can direct you to the shinies from there. If you need any help just PM me. |
Seeing as most of the guys at RIA have a plethora of stuff, why don't you come out to a game for a meet and greet...we are probably playing this Sunday at 15:00 weather permitting

I personally don't take too lightly when someone reaches for my throat. Not that I would necessarily take a swing at you or stick your lipstick coated blade when the sun don't shine, but you'd have to expect at the least a stiff 2 handed shove to get you off/away from me. |
Silent Fox, I'm a friendly lol, check out these pics. Were you thinking something like this? I just recently got a knife, not because I'm dying to get a knife kill though. I'm all for realism as well, like gas grenades, lights, lasers, real caps, mid caps, tactics ect ... and knives, and i personally wouldn't mind how you were to use it, but as you can tell, there are a lot of different people who play airsoft, many different personalities, some take stuff very seriously, hell, there was one guy who said his reaction would be to pull out possibly a real knife and stab you with it, WTF? Then there are others who are more easygoing:cool: , but never the less, be considerate to ALL the players around you and keep in mind that you could offend someone with those actions, and how one may respond to certain things. It's good to keep that in mind, not just in airsoft, but anywhere in life.
Now for the setup, were you thinking something similar? I personally wouldn't use it how it is currently setup there, just displaying it for the picture. I would never use a light on my helmet or anywhere that i couldn't quickly shut off. Why, because people will shoot at that light, especially in the dark and BB's will mainly be directed towards your face. I recommend a light attached to your rail system that you can quickly turn on and off by having a switch close to your hand or a pressure pad attached to it is also great. When you get age verified people will be able to tell you where to buy stuff and from what retailers. As you can see, I also need to get age verified. :P http://imageshack.us/a/img600/7624/078fb.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img84/8044/077hf.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img402/1570/075ke.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img138/2185/071gp.jpg |
LOL flashlight on the helmet... DO IT!!!
I wanna be hiding somewhere when a guy comes at me with a flashlight on his helm.. Thats where im aiming |
I put a flashlight on my helmet for a game in the dark once. It was a game of zombies, so no one would actually be shooting at me.
It was actually really uncomfortable. It only shone where I angled my head, and the rail angled down a bit (to aim where you're walking), so if I wanted to look up ahead, I had to tilt my head back. Having the flashlight on your gun, or even in your hand (as much as it gives up stability on the gun) is a lot more practical in a hot environment than on your helmet. |
What's awesome about that lighthouse setup, is that model of flashlight has a laser on it too...
http://imageshack.us/a/img600/7624/078fb.jpg |
Before the whole "light on a helmet" saga escalates let's not forget some folks run a headband light like a Petzl or some other small LED setup clipped on a rail or otherwise so you've got a small signature lamp for hands on tasks. Then you can see what you're doing without flooding the area with white light from a weapon light.
And then there are the SEAL guys who hang 2-3 strobes on their lid. A light just like anything else requires discipline to use. Leave it on all them time and you're a BB magnet, plus you do truly piss of the rest of your team who don't enjoy being blinded or spotlighted when you look at them. |

This is how I like to operate lights. You can't beat a pressure switch, and as you guys mentioned earlier, having a head light could come in handy as well.

We're not allowed to tell you what websites you can find guns at.
There's also a thing called Google, It's not hard to use. |
Figure you realize now its much better to do a lot of reading on this forum rather than ask a question. There is a lot of good info on here and a lot of helpful members, there are also the few, the opinionated, the elitist that will flame you no matter what you ask. So google, read, research, play some organized events and talk to players. You'll be less likely to be shot down :)
Although I must admit I do enjoy reading the "experts" stating the same opinion post after post on the same subject lol. |
