Build your own silencer

Been looking for details on the threading of TM AEGs.
I was thinking I could find a bolt at Ottawa Fastner or something that would match the threading. Should be an easy find right? or does TM use some crazy, impossible to find threading?

Mantelope July 4th, 2005 11:13

-14mm.

HGI July 4th, 2005 12:40

depends on what kind of gun your using it could be +14mm or -14mm

post up what kind of gun you have and you'll get a strate answer

I dont want to start an other tread so ill ask my question here... what is the M733 tread? (I would like to do a custom silencer like nortus one...)

thx!

DROC your M4/M16 and G36 are -14mm threads.

Tankdude July 9th, 2005 23:01

I just looked in my tap and die collection. I don't see too many negative threads for 14mm.

Unless you can find a source for -14mm threading nuts or a tap, then the only way is to use a lathe OR, and this one is the killer, use the flash hider off the gun or another gun. Cut drill grind away.

someone sould make a tutorial on how 2 make a silencer

for the nubs like me in making costume stuff :D

I'm not quite sure what you guys mean with the + and -

But being that there are different thread pitch possibilities in the many different sizes I'm guessing you mean nc = national coarse ore nf = national fine

ohh and then you need to figure out if it's clockwise or counter-clockwise threading

Greykin July 9th, 2005 23:41

clockwise turning and counter clockwise. =)

Hmmmm good luck finding 14mm thread bolts/nuts... I've been to Pacific Fasteners (our version of Toronto Fasteners?) here and they dont have anything that small...

THere are also different pitches of threading. and such, i had some of the male end threaded on my mp5. and i do believe its -14mm by 1mm pitchi really cant remember though. I am rather tired at the moment. so i cant recall correctly. plus i havent a aeg anymore to check.

-14mm thread dies will be hard to find. Buy an adaptor, unfortunatly I think they only come with a new flashhider. However it might be a solution if you're going for a custom look. This is the cheapest flashhider I could find on WGC. The adaptor will screw on your -14mm threads and on the outside it will be (for example, not exactly sure) +16mm threads. It will be much easier to find metric dies in + threading than - threading.

Droc, take the simple route and buy the silencer Apoc bought for his KSC Mk23 (came off an M4.............lesson for both of us, Mk23 is -16mm thread and the supressor is -14mm according to the machinist at work). He got it cheap, can't be easily made to fit his Mk23, so buy it cheap and he can get the proper SOCOM supressor.

I just took off your birdcage flashhider on your SR-16 and threaded the supressor (since I have your SR-16 here, Apoc's supressor AND Mk23) onto it fine (make sure it goes on straight, it's finicky!) I'll open it up and put my custom baffles in it, unless you are just wanting to run a longer barrel inside.

Here's a place that stocks left hand metric taps and dies, not sure if it's the pitch you need. Your best bet would be to pick up a metric thread pitch gauge and check the thread on your gun. Anyways here's the link

EDIT: Here's another one but you have to contact them as they don't have an online catalog!

i may do that
id go for the baffels because I prolly wont put in a longer barrel anytime soon.

CDN_Stalker July 10th, 2005 16:00

Ok, Apoc already wanted me to remove the foam and put my baffles in, so I'll do it anyways. Give him a shout and make the arrangements and let me know who I drop it off to.
