Badass Ken, that scope always looks cool.

I've seen through an old russian starlight scope before, delightfully awful and weighed as much as the gun, it's a great prop to have :D
Couldn't see digital camo from 30 feet away either:D

Forget the make and model, but it's Russian made (Canadian design I've been told, just Russian Gen 1 tubes), works quite well for the Gen, and even in total darkness, the illuminator works great. Distances are fine too, out past 200ft on reasonable moonlit nights.

pvs-15 light ;) basically non rugged version and they require the lpbp or a 1425$ mount ;)

Karma_ November 3rd, 2011 12:10

Here's a question for those in the know. A lot of you are rocking the Wilcox mount, is that mainly for the impressions or is it just the best? The Norotos AKA2 seems like a really nice mount as well, so I'm just wondering if there's a reason why it isn't seen as much.

MilanWG November 3rd, 2011 13:10

The Norotos J-arm and Rhino swing arm have wobble/play in them.

The combo of the Wilcox mount and Norotos PVS-14 Dual Dovetail adapter create a rock-solid, wobble free platform.

This is something that makes a huge difference when using my PVS14 - but if you are going for an impression, there is no need for it at all.

My 2 cents.

ps. Love your new banner Karma :)

bean November 20th, 2011 11:54

For those of you who use the J-Arm and Rhino mount I am working on a stabilization method to remove the majority of the wobble. It should be fairly inexpensive.

Cant wait to see it Bean. My mount atm, is borderline useless.

bean November 20th, 2011 13:02

For the time being take a boot band or other elastic and wrap it around the knob with oring on the j-arm and over the two bumps on the end of the mounts arms. It will pull the j-arm into the mount stopping it from wobbeling. I will be making or contracting out a prettier version of this that can be released easily if need be.

I'm in the same boat. I have held off on grabbing my FLIR for months for two major reasons. The first is that it is primarily a hand held device, but has a very sturdy tripod mount. I asked for assistance and found a method that would be very workable solution for weapon mounting it. While it wouldn't be necessarily be bore sighted, it would primarily be a spotting scope. The second problem then is making sure it is properly protected from BB's. Given the fact it's thermal, putting a piece of clear glass or plastic over it won't work as it will then just read the IR signature of whatever you put in front of it. I'd have to use the same material that the lens is made out of and that is pretty much glass made out of germanium. A simple sacrificial lens at that point cost around 400 dollars, and that is with duct taping it on.

So to spend 2000 dollars(plus duties/taxes and shipping) at the starting price for the Flir Scout PS24, which is the model not with the changeable AA batteries but instead a proprietary Lithium Ion, which will be delegated to primarily a hand held spotting tool, is not really a purchase I can make at this time. I still have way too much night vision related kit to purchase. It's too much of a logistical(in terms of trying to protect it), or financial(EXPENSIVE!!!), to even consider fielding for the near future.

But as night vision slowly becomes more and more prominent in Canadian Airsoft, the advantages offered by NVG's will begin to vanish and head more towards putting you at par with the opposition. When that happens, I'll be more willing to turn the tables back in my favor.

Introducing the Personal Night vision 57E Gen 1+

I bought these more for collecting/curio and playing around with then for airsoft. At a price tag of $250(shipping from Poland is another story) I couldn't complain. Ex-Polish PNV-57E Starlight Night vision goggles, are a evolutionary step up from the Active gen 0 PNV-57. The American equivalent to the PNV-57E would be the AN/PVS-5 night vision goggle.

The PNV-57E is a Gen 1+ Device designed for Helicopter, tank and Boat crew. Weighing in at 2.5Kgs they are lighter then they appear. The goggles draw power from the transformer in the back of the head(12-14V). The Power supply also doubles up as the counterweight.

The goggles are normally powered by the electrical system of a tank or helicopter but have been adapted to run off a 9v battery. Included in the carry case is a adapter to run off a vehicle 12v cigarette lighter. The unit came with defect free tubes and a clean image with minimal fish eye. Automatic brightness controls allow accidental exposure bright lights from damaging the tubes. Lacking any form of macro focus, Internal IR source the PNV-57E is useless for low light level CQB.

In the Near future I will be possibly acquiring the next generation to the PNV night-vision family the PNV-10T expect a review.
http://77rus.smugmug.com/Military/In...fr-640x427.jpg
And maybe one day some gen 3

As a reward to anyone with enough patience to read through my long spiel about old soviet night-vision. http://www.robertrtg.com/feronightvision.html sells German made Starlight scopes at good prices. Although not as effective as gen 3 night-vision, they will blow any gen 1 rifle scope out of the water. Using a cascade system of 3x gen 1 tubes connected by fiber optics. These scopes will give gen 2 performance at the cost of slight distortion. Being Military grade scopes they come with Automatic brightness control standard. Don't waste money on Cheaper gen 1 devices not designed for military roles. :D

I don't have any of the rocket world ones sadly but have all the recent ones. If you have pairs of any old ranger eyes that are real and you want to part with let me know.

But the PVS-14s are better than the PVS-7s why be a cyclops when you could have sterovision?

There's something to be said for the sort of retro feel. I can't explain it, but it's the same reason one might field a revolver or an Vietnam styled M16 over a more modern variant.

Although it's weird getting no depth perception when looking through it. It takes some time to get used to.

I only have the PeeperPro 17, I'd need a 80mm panty filter to get anywhere close to the SV2000. :(

Did you opt for the standard model, or the Pro model? The increased contrast and resolution, plus on board recording capability to a SD card, will easily win out in terms of general usability. I wouldn't have a use for the device without the capability for making "home movies."

I believe the new 2012 model has a police scanner as a standard feature.

Thermal vs. Night Vision - YouTube

So just getting an order together for TNVC, and I was wondering if they took Canadian credit cards?

Also if anyone could enlighten me how much of a difference the Night enforcer with a hand select tube is over the standard base model ITT PVS-14. One part of me says if I'm spending that much money what's another $700, and the other part is $700 is a new gen4 glock.

Kingsix January 11th, 2012 08:49

I hope you are well aware of something we Nightvision guys hate called ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations).

It is export restrictions on military items, Gen 3 Nightvision, Infrared lasers,Forward looking infrared, certain optics all the fun stuff. Getting caught exporting to other countries will net a hefty fine or jail time. It is so bad that alot of companies refuse to export nightvision over gen 1+.

In laymen terms all the fun stuff is banned for export.

TNVC will not take international credit cards - ie. Canada

Pretty well versed on ITAR laws from importing optics, rifle parts, guns, ect (Aimpoints, to AR uppers) and the permit process. Wouldn't eff with US border guards (made that mistake before back in the day.)

I have a good broker in Washington for importation, just tough when companies don't accept Canadian credit cards instead of trusting someone else with thousands of dollars.

No such thing as banned, just have to throw enough money at it.

I'd get the best you can. Go with the Night Enforcer and that way if you ever decide to sell it you'll have an easier time doing so in my opinion.

Derpystronk January 14th, 2012 01:15

I don't consider myself a photographer but more of the dual 14's just to make you 15ers feel silly.

This applies to almost all the fun shit, not jsut NOD or IR related, alot of retailers won't even shit firearm parts or accessories -_-

There are ways though :P
(Don't PM me about it, I'll ignore you and delete it)

I wouldn't blame them. That sounds painful if it's at all anatomically possible. Stuff like RIS barrels extended mags can do a lot of damage.
