That kit looks great, well done man. Love to see a pic of that installed.

gandar June 3rd, 2005 19:40

Very nice work man. Excellent job. Definately throw up pics when it's installed.

jackman June 3rd, 2005 21:25

rgr that ...im going to stain and varnish this week end....and then r-install....btw they fit perfectly

gandar June 3rd, 2005 21:32

Y'know what might look really good on that? Tongue (sp) Oil... it wouldn't add anything to the thickness, it'll finish it gorgeously, and it'll keep it protected well... You wouldn't get much colour, it'd just make it look like wet maple, but it would look really good, I've done a few pieces with it. My mom did her big chest of drawers she has in the living roomwith it, came out great

Just something I thought of.

Suspect187 June 3rd, 2005 21:34

wow looks great so far. Can't wait to see the finished product.

jackman June 3rd, 2005 21:51

thx gandar....thats a good idea it would be nice to do some in a light natural maple for sure....ill post some pic's when they r done

Conscript June 10th, 2005 15:41

Wow man, looks pretty good!

Skruface June 16th, 2005 00:07

Looks good. However, there's one problem...it's too pretty. Beat it with a chain. Whittle your girlfriend's (or boyfriend's - I'm equal opportunity) name in it. Drag it through the dirt, then dump some motor oil on it.

THEN it will look like AK wood.

jackman June 16th, 2005 21:21

ur right skruface....it wont look good until its well used.....

tax June 16th, 2005 21:26

If this is the same kit that i am thinking about, then im giving it "thumbsup"
I've seen this kit in person and it's awesome. Awesome work Jackman!!!!!

Aper June 16th, 2005 21:26

Pretty nice ***** job  Can't wait to see those painted and fixed on your AK !

jackman June 17th, 2005 19:11

holdfastjr June 25th, 2005 06:19

that's cool I wood like to see more pic's when it's done

Freedom Fighter June 25th, 2005 08:44

What do you do for a living exactly? I'd assume fabrication. That kit is simply amazing! What about making up an RPK kit? I hate to say it, but I like that kit you made more than the real steel Polish furnature I have on my AKM right now. Can you also make some nice foregrips without that vert grip? I love the vert grip but a few of us have the GP30 nade launchers so it wouldn't fit on that style of lower foregrip.

Cheers

Mysteryfish June 25th, 2005 13:28

I was gonna say.. those are absolutely beautiful...

Just for those people who don't want a vert grip, , if you make sets without, I'd bet there's plenty of interest.

It makes me want to buy another AK, just for that.

Freedom Fighter June 25th, 2005 14:31

I forgot, well I did initially ... There is a way to make that little tab on the lower handguard stronger. You can guess the answer ... make it thicker. When I get real steel handguards I chop the tabs into a size twice the size of the Marui standard then modify the receiver to accept the new size. When Marui designed their lower handguard they only had plastic in mind, not wood. If I can ever get a snap shot of my hand guards I would be happy to show you.

jackman June 27th, 2005 20:39

wood kit

rgr that...i would like to see pic's of that

gandar June 27th, 2005 20:45

Simply gorgeous. Looks even better on the gun!

Duckman June 28th, 2005 03:01

guys...that kit is sick...solid as rock! when you hold it you kinda wanna go get pinstripe tails and wing tips! JACK...YA DOITY RAT!

Wolfgang June 28th, 2005 07:32

Wow 8-O

Silver Wolf June 28th, 2005 07:48

Cool

War-Lock June 28th, 2005 09:52

.......W......o......W....... and i don't mean World of warcraft

jackman June 30th, 2005 09:40

freedom fighter......i used a wood called white oak for the tang going into the receiver....white oak is 'pound for pound' as strong as steel......and it seems to hold quite well......i fabricated a slot into the lower handguard and glued in the tang.....it was easier to align it that way.......also.....to make the lower foregrip handle stronger i put in a tensioned rod (nut and bolt) inside the whole length of the handle...

ancorp July 22nd, 2005 16:52

Amazing, even though I personally dont like front pistol grips on AK's, this one changed my mind! Simply amazing work! How long did it take you to make it?

Cheers,
Alex

jackman July 25th, 2005 10:48

ak 47 woodie

it took me aprox 24 working hours to make the prototype...including jigs to help speed up further fabrication.....if i make more at the same time it will also help to reduce the time for each individual piece....

Dozer_01 July 25th, 2005 10:56

Yeah i wouldnt doubt the time. Looks great!. My stock alone took 12 hours since i did it ALL by hand, lol. You could make yourself a pretty penny if you sold those.

xhale July 25th, 2005 17:17

I am definately interested in buying one. maybe without the pistol grip. who knows. it's the kind of thing I would have to hold before deciding.

anyway... very nice wood kit, let us know a price and ETA.

Semtex June 3rd, 2006 21:04

Just a min here I'm picking up my eyes as they rolled out when I saw that that, very very nice piece of work woodwork. Hop to see more of that in the future.

Vyper June 7th, 2006 19:40

wow.......wow...............wow
i gotta get one of those!
but i wonder if it will fit my ICS AK74

nice work!

Vyper :salute:

Gato June 7th, 2006 19:54

VERY nice !! and yes any idea if you're gunna make more and what you would sell em for ?

longshot June 18th, 2006 19:22

Jackman let me used this beauty of an AK today at a game...you have to 'feel' the wood to appreciate the workmanship ;-)

Freedom Fighter June 18th, 2006 19:31

Jack, you did a terrific job fabricating that set. Any chance I could check it out sometime? I do have a suggestion with regards to making that stub that protrudes from the rear of the lower handguard stronger. I've modded real steel wood grips and have also modded the receivers to match. Results in a stronger tab. Yes, I would also be extremely interested in one of these kits to say the very least. Hell, I'd probably strip the Polish furniture off my AK and put on one of these babies ...

JoelBrown/ArC June 19th, 2006 23:02

Very nice jack!

i would like a set in the same finish w/o the front pistol grip, just a standerd AK grip up front, IF possible!!
PM'd if you are selling im interested!! :D

Krusty July 25th, 2006 16:45

AK grips

Excellent job

pounce_the_jaguar January 21st, 2007 05:46

Hunter Killer February 10th, 2007 23:16

philstructo February 11th, 2007 01:27

Nice beter without the front grip

Krnxnub March 19th, 2007 22:33

Very Nice. I have a question. How did you hollow out the stock?

Lawless October 16th, 2007 23:27

If these are being sold I am most definatly intrested, PM me a price if you could be so kind (or inclined)

Kokanee October 16th, 2007 23:29

Better chance of success if you PM him, as this is a dead thread.

ancorp October 16th, 2007 23:32

Even so, looking at it again, that is one sexy set of wood (and no, that does not by any means sound right.). Seriously, very, very impressed still.

ASfay April 7th, 2008 17:17
