Anyone who was here today?

Sounds a lot like the USMC's MAGTF demo. Good on 'em.

ybrik June 25th, 2011 22:59

Members of 31 Canadian Brigade Group including infantry and rolling armour. With support from LAV mounted 25mm gun and CH-146 Griffons (not shown), this exciting combined assault by armour infantry on 'enemy' position demonstrates the extensive capabilities of today's CF.

Poor crops!

sirtaco27 June 25th, 2011 23:12

Well looks like being in Armoured Recce is going to kick ass. Woot!

Off_kilter June 25th, 2011 23:21

pretty sure thats just the regular infantry. Our Recce squadron just uses Coyotes not lav-3s.

There is a possibility that its RCD's assault troop though.

PS: Why the hell would you assault with a gwagon?

sortie39 June 26th, 2011 01:57

wowwwwww C7A2. sssssso erotic!!!!!!

I cant wait to give u a fantastic blowjob!

Styrak June 26th, 2011 02:54

Looks like the "enemy" was dug in pretty good at that fixed position! LOL.

how can u tell the regular infantry without looking at the vehicle?

gear or weapon?

McKee June 26th, 2011 07:22

Thats me getting arrested on enemy force! I'm in the center with the ballcap lol.

Oh and the G-Wagons are from 1H in london, the infantry are 4RCR, the LAV is from RCR in petawawa. The Gwagons are used and the enemy position is laughable because we're poor.

I did look at the vehicle. Armoured Recce uses the Lav-25 coyote.

AS for weapons C7A2 is still the primary issue in at least my armoured regiment even though its suppose to be a C8.

As for pers gear i've seen people with kit they had no reason for having and people without their basic kit so its not really the best indication.

ybrik June 26th, 2011 11:06

Sentry, as I could remember, you guys returned fire like only 5 times. Lol!
great demo btw.

Is the cf-18 providing air support with the ch-146 in today's demo?

McKee June 26th, 2011 12:36

Well that's what happens when you get one magazine to last you through a firefight.. Between the three enemy force guys we had 3 c7s.. Only 2 had bolts in them and only 90 rounds of blanks for the 3 of us. Were doing another one today at 1445 and this time we get a bit more ammo to burn off.

The LAVIIIs would belong to 1RCR as they are the Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Ontario.

From what I remember a RCD in the Assault Troop told me, they have no vehicles. If they do, I highly doubt they would get LAVIIIs. In the Armour world I think it's only Sqn HQ and perhaps the Regiment's 9TAC. Buddy of mine(Armour Recce Reservist) was attached to the LdSH for TF 3-07 and I'm pretty sure he was a LAV driver for the Sqn OC.

Sirtaco27, don't expect to be closing with and destroying the enemy as that is not the mission of Armour Recce. Recce observes, and reports what they see. Conducting Recces via vehicle(Reservists would use G-Wagon) or dismounted. As well Reserve Armour Recce is also tasked with Convoy Escort, and they were heavily employed in that role in Afghanistan for the NSE.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

It sucks there wasn't more money spent on that event to make that demo a bit better. ie have 1-2 plywood "buildings" with the enemy force in them instead of a small stack of sandbags. Which in reality the LAV's 25mm would have no problem fucking up and killing the dudes behind it, no need to dismount dudes for that.

...

thats what figured. I wasn't sure though with RCD not having any tanks.

We had some TUA lavs but they're gone now(to where i have no idea).

Our assault troop is really just a bunch of guys training for some military challenge in Wales.

You're exactly right Mike, the role of reconnaissance (at least when I was first taught it - the wording has since changed slightly) is "to obtain accurate and tactical information on the enemy and ground in a theatre of war and report it back to a higher command in a timely fashion". Long story short, as a reconnaissance soldier if you have to fire your weapon, you have failed.

We used to go out when there was a Recce course going on and act as the enemy force. All we had to do to get them to fail their qualification was to get them to fire their weapons. You'd find where they were laagered and probe and probe to get a response. Knowing that they were supposed to be invisible some people would still get irked and start shooting back.

Of course they would return the favor for us if we needed an enemy. It sure looked like a dream job. long hair? Check. Crewsuit? Check. SMG stowed away unloaded so it won't get dusty, rusty or carboned up? Check. Driving cross country with a giant ruck of extra gear tucked in your vehicle instead of humping? Check. Can't wear web gear in case it gets tangled on something? Check. And so on.

philly0001 June 28th, 2011 16:24

Fuck I totally forgot about this event.

kev_b June 28th, 2011 20:44

Great pics. Infantry was all 4 rcr london/stratford. Lav from petawawa, g wagons from 1H, london. Bad guys were engineers, St thomas. We were just trying to use all the equipment we had on display. QRF was also 4 rcr.

sirtaco27 June 28th, 2011 20:50

Well goddamn. I'm sorry guys, I literally had almost no info whatsoever on the Canadian military due to me living in Amurica for too damned long. The only thing I understood from my dad (former infantry) was that being in infantry sucked and I didn't want to do signals or be a medic. So I chose the branch with the giant ass vehicles scattered around the garage.
