Custom rifle cases

I am wanting to purchase a new Pelican case to accommodate my M4 carbine and M4 CQB. I also intend to house 10 mags 2 optics (Elcan and Eotech 551) and my 226 pistol and mags. Obviously I am going to need a large case.

I am interested to see how some of you people have laid out your cases with various accessories or multiple rifles. Post up your pictures and comments or ideas on how best to achieve a nice package.

Pelican cases were to hard to find for me, so went to local LeBaron shop, and got this....

Plano GunGuard All-Weather tactical gun case (130$)

And since gbbr mags smell, and are heavy, (and since you shouldnt store mags and gun together) I bought an ammo can to put them it! (plus all the other tools, bbs, oil... I need to bring for an event!)

Heavy Duty locks:

Also, unlike Pelican case which require custom laser foam cutting, the Plano one had "pick-n-pluck" foam!

PS: my gbbr loves it... :P

Hardigg storm m3100 (My son has a m3200, not cut yet though). This was cut for my 2x ar15, nothing's in it but you get the point ;)

wow...both very nice. Not sure how available the Plano cases are in my area...but definitely going to check it out.

My interest for gun case with guns and mags is for travel to US. TSA/ATFE takes unkindly to trying to transport mags in luggage....makes for major delays.....lol

Nice cases guys...has me inspired....

thpethalK March 19th, 2011 20:18

Personally, I use a Guardforce Breakdown Shotgun case. It fits my M4 and 226 as well as an ACOG with plenty more room. I carry my mags in a couple of those cheap MasterLock cash boxes, each one holds about 8 USGI mags and has a functioning key lock.

I will be getting a Pelican 1700 once I get my GBBR and another once I get my PTW.

All Pelican 17xx series cases are TSA approved and come with TSA approved locks.

You can order your Pelican with pick-n-pluck instead of solid foam, although, solid foam does have a nicer finished look to it and you can do it yourself for a few bucks with a home made hot-wire cutter.

Nice setup btw.

Not mine, but here are some from the net (some of these are SEAL cases).

I just purchased a SKB case. It has the same features (3 handles, wheels, 4 latches and 4 holes for locks and guaranteed for life) as Pelican 1500 except the SKB is deep enough to fit 2 layers of rifles. Cost is $200 all in from the states. Downside is it does not have that pick n pluck foam in the Plano.

rustysniper March 19th, 2011 20:30

hadn't seen one done with the rifle angled before......that is very interesting....

Allows you to fit a full sized M4 in a CQB case.

Gunny_McSmith March 19th, 2011 21:25

there are a couple other threads on cases currently in discussion on here with a link to a post on AR15.com with instructions on how to build your own hot-wire cutter. You could probably get some foam from any nearby upholstery stores.

Just out of curiosity, for anyone that has a WE M4, is it possible to store it in a case broken down into upper and lower receiver like how the cutouts on UrbanSniper's case is?

If you get a Pelican case, any Pelican dealer can get you replacement foam. I use the 1700 cases for my M4's and PTS ACR. I just swap out the foam for the different guns.

A word of caution about traveling with gun cases. Make sure your case is 62 linear inches or less (length x width x height.) Otherwise it is in the oversize category and is subject to an additional baggage fee of $100 USD to $200 USD, for each bag, each way on the flight. For example, the Pelican 1700 is under 62 inches so no fee. The Pelican 1720 is over 62 inches and will cost you at least $200 USD on a round trip flight.

Pelican has a nice chart for you to use:

If anyone finds a dealer in Canada that is carrying the Pelican rifle cases, let me know...I would be interested in one.

Same takedown like a normal AR? Pop the 2 pins and separate the receiver?

I was at Bass Pro Shops yesterday. They have the Pelican weather/waterproof cases there. It has the pick and pluck foam on the inside as well. I believe it was in the $160 range

I know how to do it for wrenches...but I don't think you want to put your airsoft gun in the oven :)

Here is my Guci Pelican 1700 set up for a DD railed Celcius CTW M4 with spots for Eotech 551, Acog, 3 cylinders, Beretta M9 plus 3 mags, Madbull crono and 10 mags.
Got the fabric for $3 so I couldn't resist....lol...there is gold fleck woven into it to add some bling!

I think for the 2 gun set up I am going to go for a longer, deeper case and put the pistol at the end...all mags in the middle and the guns opposed at the top and bottom. Should be room I hope.....

Jcotter March 21st, 2011 19:51

pelican's are the sexy. nice work man.

rustysniper March 21st, 2011 20:26

TY...looks better with the pistol in place.......
Got BIG plans for the next case LOL

Yeah it is really is. It is a solid alternative to the Pelican. The main difference is the capacity to store 2 rfiles and more. Costs less than the Pelican 1700 or 1750 shipped to Canada. You can choose to not include the double 3 inch foam and order the pick and pluck.

Wow. The cloth is a nice touch to hide the DIY cutouts. Good idea!

How did you manage to keep the cloth in place to keep it from moving around? Hot glue in the back?

rustysniper March 21st, 2011 23:05

spray on upholstery cement (aka contact cement)
Spray...let tack...stretch....place...spray...stretch...added with lots of cutting and nipping

You get it....lol
