best goggles??
Im in the market for goggles, just trying to find the best pair that wont fog up. Ive been looking at these;
http://www.revisioneyewear.com/store...-system-1.html |
I think that is the way to go. Plus I believe that they are better rated for airsoft than just a regular Paintball mask or shooting glasses. I have only one good eye so I don't think I would buy anything other than revision... unless what I read before is wrong or I misunderstood.
|
Check out ESS' line of eyewear too, also ballistic rated, they make some great stuff. I have a pair of Advancer V12's and ICE glasses, I love them both :)
|
I would check with your local community recommendations.
For example, in my area, lots of games are held on paint ball fields where you are required to wear paint ball goggles for insurance reasons. |
I'm a personal fan of the ESS goggles w/ built in fan. I rarely fog up and if and when I do... one click away and the fan goes off and I've got perfect clairity in less than a second.
|
I believe Revision released their fan version of the Desert Lotus (or however you call it). I have a pair of ESS Striker googles... they fog like no tomorrow unless you remove the foam covering the holes on the top and bottom.

The Revisions are fantastic. And what do you know! There is a Canadian distributor within driving distance :).

There are fake ESS's on the market, just make sure you buy the real ones. I'm a fan of ESS turbo fan. For $144 you can't go wrong.

You can get ESS eyewear for dirt cheap on Ebay

No..from surplus stores. For example, ESS advancers are issue for Uk soldiers. Found a European (Irish, i think..) Ebay store selling them new for like $50. In canada, they're up to $150.
|
opticsplanet has decent prices on real ESS glasses: http://www.opticsplanet.com/s/ESS+ICE/
I just ordered a set from them... there are 5% and 10% discount codes floating around. but if you're playing at paintball fields, I'd highly recommend JT Flex 8's. You can run the full mask (e.g. when playing CQB) or detach and just run the goggles. The lenses are thermal to reduce fogging. http://www.paintballgear.ca/product/...Sand_Camo.html |
would those lenses be to dark?
|
Over a hundred dollars for eye protection may seem steep, especially when there are other options that can go 5 or more times less, but of all the things you can buy for airsoft, this is the most important.
I'm glad you are already looking for good quality lenses, so I'll skip that part. The added value you'll get with higher-end models with fans is peace of mind. Fogging suck. Full stop. It will make you hate your day. Just think, if I asked you on the field how much you would be willing to pay for me to fix your fog problem right now, and for the rest of the day. 2$? 5$? More? Multiply that by the number of games you'll play in the lifetime of the goggles, which will probably last longer than cheap crap which you'll pay again to replace, and you'll see that there is value in the higher-end models. Also, honnestly, even if this means paying a hundred more, your whole setup will cost many times more. Wait a bit more to save a few bucks and see if you could compress in the cost of the other stuff. Alternately, I would suggest the ESS Advancer V12s and Wiley X SG-1 V-CUTs. I sweat like a motherfucker and I love them. |
I think i like the full goggle style, like the revision desert locusts im just not sure if im ready to shell out 169.99 for the fan version...thinking of going with the standard desert locusts for 99.99
|
Well, i think im going with the JT Flex 8's so i have the option of running full face or just goggles..also they have nothing but awesome reviews regarding fog up.
http://www.badlandspaintball.com/JT-...ive_p_325.html |
That's an option but full face masks are a pain in the ass if you want to aim properly... which you'll have to do if you ever use black BBs.
|
they fog....hard
|
they fog, huh....seems like all the reviews r lies i guess. Dammit why is it so hard to find descent goggles.
Final question, are the revision desert locusts good, do they fog? the 99.99 ones. Will i still be able to aim through my sights using these goggles. http://www.revisioneyewear.com/store...-system-1.html |

Get different eye-pro for different scenarios/uses.
I have the following: - JT Flex 8 Thermal Camo (for CQB) - Bolle X800 (for outdoor) - Oakley M-Frames with clear Sweep lenses (for competition shooting) Regarding fog, simply get yourself some Fogtech. |
So many mixed opinions, so far choosing a good goggle seems the be the hardest part of getting geared up. lol
|
well, im ordering these...guess this is one part of your gear you shouldnt cheap out on. Ill go with the authentic ESS's.

The problem I have is finding a pair to fit over my perscription glasses. Not many sites state if the google will fit over glasses. As far as the fogging issue I get it double as bad. I rigged a pair of JT's with fans but it is bulky and a bit heavy. I have sent out a couple of emails trying to find out which of the above mentioned goggles would answer my problems, just waiting on replys now.

Ess goggles are very nice...
The XT @ arround 50$ is the same as the fan equiped at 180$ (just need to punch to hole. (go to addison to buy a mini 12v fan 6$, a switch and 9v battery, strap to the to the rear with twistee tie (fan to)... all for about 12$ total.... so you get ESS fan for 62$ instead of 180$.... And YES they fit with prescription glassed The only question is Helmet or no helmet (the XT doesnt have over helmet wing extensions... they do have another model for that... name has something to do with aircraft carrier ops... or something Opticplanet has great prices and great service ((multiple item shipping rebate)) Cheers |
any good PB rated goggles that are low profile and fit over glasses.
don't mean to hijack, but I am wondering, and it might be a good avanue for the OP to consider |

Seriously, come to the shop on Saturday and try some on. You'll be impressed. This way, you can try them in person, won't pay shipping. Our prices are the same in CDN as they are on the Revision site in USD. :) Jeff |
Thanks sportco thats good to know about the ESS goggles. The fan set up is sort of what I am running now, though mine is a bit more bulky. I was wondering if Jeff could answer if the revision Locusts fit with perscription glasses. I saw Doctor Airsofts review on the Desert Locust Fan goggles from the shot show in Vegas and they caught my eye but there is still that eye glass fitment problem I have.
|
They don't fit most glasses underneath. All Revision goggles have the ability to stick a prescription insert in them, but you'd need to get the lenses made.

Drek, if you decide on ESS. The best price in Canada. I just got one the past summer. They have all styles of ESS.
Note: This is a real tactical store, I've been there in person to purchase my ESS turbo fans. Plus I wear glasses and also purchased the prescription insert. Great product. My whole team uses them now. After a summer day of fog in my JTs, ESS turbo fan and ESS crossbow was my solution. Great store, best prices on ESS: http://tacticalproductscanada.com/ Good luck on finding the right product |
Thanks Jeff. I saw the opion for perscription lenses but I assumed that would be quite expensive. I will have to check it out and see. ESS is looking like the best bet at this time for myself.

prescription inserts
Quote:
I got the inserts for my ESS turbo fan and ESS crossbows, one insert fits both products. I payed an extra $100 for the prescription and insert. Not a bad price to me. I've even use them for snowboarding because of the perscription. lol |
Actually that is a good price. I thought for sure it would be really expensive. So would you just get your perscription from your optometrist and take it into the stor and they can order the goggle with the correct perscription. I will really give this some thought. Thanks for that info.

I just check it out and Tactical Products is less then 2 hour from home. I will be checking this place out real soon. Thanks Hightimes.

Has anyone used the ESS V12's? I have a small head so Im not sure if they'll fit very well. Do they block out any part of your vision (like 2 lens swimming goggles do).
|
I use ess profile goggles I like them a lot although I would recommend some fogtech spray for them.
|
It seems eye-pro is some of the most subjective piece of kit you can get.
One thing to keep in mind is just because something works for one person, doesn't mean it is going to work for you. Do your research and then when you think you know what you want - do more research. If you have the opportunity, try out some different set-ups at the next game you attend. Just ask team-mates or other gamers very politely to try what they are using. See what fits you best, etc. Also remember what application you will be using your eye-pro for, CQB, outdoors, competitive shooting, etc. |
I use Revision Desert Locust, they are very comfortable and are very fog resistant. I say resistant because all goggles will fog under the right conditions. Use fogtech and you will be amazed at them. Just be sure to buy genuine Revisons and not repros. If the price seems too good they are repros, I learned this the hard way.
Edit: I use goggles not googles. |
I use ARENA Flakjack googles, and yes they are a bit bulky, although its a good trade off for being so comfy.
They are extremely scratch or breakage resistant and look great i think. I got them for an extremely cheap price too! $20 USD They work for me. Ultimately the choice is up to you. |
JT Spectra thermal goggles rock. Great field of view and they don't fog up!
|
The most important question for goggles is whether they actually fit properly, and what you are using them with.
An eyepiece is expensive so it must be good, or everyone recommends it so it must be good, and they probably are... but why are mine fogging? Try them on before buying whenever possible. If they are of reasonable quality and fit snugly around all contact edges they shouldn't fog, but you will run into problems if: - The frame digs into your face on one edge more than it's opposing edge - Your face/ gear/ helmet obstructs it's ventilation - You sweat heavily (This can be helped a bit by wearing sweat dispersing materials around the head) - You run around with a slack jaw and blow hot, wet air straight up into your mask (This one can take conscious effort to change) Many times The reasons for fogging are related to other factors and not so much the goggles themselves. Better quality helps treat the symptoms but not always the disease. Going from a $30 goggle to a $140 will be disappointing if neither fit properly. A different style @ $30 may have been just fine! JT Flex work fine for me, but are generally terrible if used with a brimmed helmet (PASGT etc)... if you can run them without, no problem. As for fogtech, the same effect can be achieved by buffing your inner lens with a small amount of dish soap and a micro-fiber cloth. Add a drop or two to lens, buff until it leaves no streaks or film, save $15. Fans have their drawbacks too, so consider that before you pay a $50 price premium for them. They'll clear up fog alright, but if you find a set of goggles that fit properly you likely wont even need them until the 3rd hour of heavy play. Get one with a side-mounted switch if you must have one and plan on running a helmet with it. |
Unfortunately I couldn't find anyone in Canada selling the Revision Desert Locust Fan Version (especially asian fit for me :D)
I just ordered from Revision Asian Fit Fan Goggle with RX Insert, it came out to $160.58 including shipping. Hopefully it will work great :D (There are coupons out there, and I was able to get 30% off) Decent price for goggles.... Anyone who skis should know good goggles don't come cheap either... *My Ski goggles are usually ~$150 and are ANSI rated, they have big vents with very thin foam covering these vents for really nice anti-fog, but I am afraid of BBs going through* |
I know some people do, it will depend on fields you play at, and generally BioBBs, and cheap BBs would not be allowed as they are likely to shatter.
If you order online or something such as the custom steel ones... You could always order 2, and use one to test shoot in case. |
What about mesh eyewear? I have seen them for sale online. I was thinking of making the eyepiece out of heavy gauge expanded steel.
|
All it takes is one person showing up to the field with shitty BBs...bye bye vision.
(Low quality BBs can and will shatter upon impact with mesh, sending the fragments through it into your nice squishy eyeball) |
haha funny, I read his post and typed my post after, and it says I posted 8 minutes ahead of him @.@
|
But if you had on glasses under the mesh it may work. Not that I'm interested in taking chances with my eyes. Some people seem to think that prescription eyeglasses are protection enough from things that can not penetrate them. I'm not one of those and when the eyes are concerned I like to air on the side of caution.
Kaiu I think this means you are time traveler. I guess, as everything, it boils down to safety first and then functionality. |
