SCAR series: H or L?
Ok so basically I'm looking at the SCAR series, and I cannot decide to which to get the SCAR-H or SCAR-L?
|
They perform the exact same. The only differance is the appearance of the magazine. The SCAR light uses standard AR mags so it would be easier and usually cheaper to go with that option.
|
SCAR H is sexier.

Yeah, the only difference in performance happens in real life. But go with L because of what the Donkey Habs fan said.
|
Also DMR vs. CQB type issues could come into play.
Luckily you've got a couple years to decide, years in which the SCAR will likely cease to be used. |
I should point out, the two im looking at (ARES version) have the same price so choosing either or, is for purely cosmetic reasons
|
Usually easier to find mag pouches in different styles for the 5.56 vs the 7.62.....
Although the H is gorgeous. |
Yup, stated above have been the exact reasons Dai Viet told me to go with the SCAR-L. Mag pouches would be so much easier to find plus, if you really need to, someone can throw you a mag on field and you'll be up and running again. AR mags are much more abundant.

I own a scar l and pretty much saved money on mags and pouches since i owned a m4 previously
|
Scar-L. They use M4 mags. For a CA Scar-H, they use hard-to-find Sr-25 mags. I'd veer clear of that.

I have a VFC SCAR-L. It's somewhat easier to find mags that fit an L series, but not all M4 mags work in a SCAR (don't know why). It might be different with the Ares SCAR, but I've never seen one, so have no firsthand experience.

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

question about the scar h, can it fit g3 or m14 mags?
|
Nope.
Just SR25 style mags. |
corrding to the website OneWorldAirsoft.ca... and the local surplus store that Ill be buying from ( heroarmysurplus.com ) the ARES version does fit M14 magazines.
|
Here's the thing. It's abundantly clear that this individual is 16. He seems to be about to buy a gun from Hero Army Surplus, which does not explicitly say 18+ on the site. Hero Surplus seems to be a OneWorld distributor.
If the ASC community/staff is cool with this than ok, just want to make sure everyone is clear on what's going on here. |
What scotty said.
|
FYI yes i am 16 born in 1993, and suffer due to that late birthday, and yes I do wish to purchase this airsoft gun.... I understand that what i am doing is not perfectly legal, but please understand I do not mean to lead anyone on, and am truly interested in the sport, thats all.
Also Hero does only sell to 18+, but come on it doesn't take a brainiac to get around that, I mean if 14 year olds can get beer. EDIT: Please don't start bashing me about my age because in reality, late next year I will be 18, and its not like I am one of the more immature people my age. Plus you all where my age at one time, and you just wanted to be accepted, and find people that shared the same interests as yourselves. P.S. Rugger_can love the disclaimer in ur sig. |
saying you're not immature makes you look more immature. We have younger guys on the boards who show more maturity by not advertising what they already own in their signatures, and by waiting patiently till they're 18 to own an airsoft gun.
Do what most everyone else did. Wait. Those who didn't got weeded out pretty quickly. especially when all they do is flaunt how they can circumvent the 18+ rule. |
Hmm, i respect your opinion, then could we then let this topic continue as a topic for SCAR H/L lovers to use to discuss the guns.
Thank You |

And back to the topic of SCARs. In my financial situation I would get an L simply for the practicality factor. It's a 5.56 NATO style gun and the mags are just much easier to get. Of course I prefer a 7.62 but when it comes to airsoft, it's just impractical. Unless you're stupid rich. Then go for it. |

I never did act like that. Now heres all I ask if u want to bash people bashed people based upon there age, don't do it in the GUNS DISCUSSION section, I mean nothing in that title says anything about bashing/trolling/flaming those who are not of age yet and have a genuine interest in the sport. Also I didn't say when I would be purchasing the gun, nor did I lead anyone on to believe that I am 18. (RANT OVER)
now please stay on topic. Are 7.62 style mags really that uncommon? |

It's like buying a Kalashnikov-variant and wanting to modify it. It's doable but it's cheaper to modify an Armalite or a SCAR. |
Plus tacticool AKs are ghey.

the advantages of common cheap mags, common cheap mag pouches and compatibility with others far outweighs the "it's different" element particularly for a first gun .. |

Woah someone else from my town. :S
I'm from Bowmanville too. |
OK Thank you all for your input, both positive and negative, Im going with the SCAR L, for reasons that It looks good, and magazine compatibility
|
Good Choice...
For a gun that you're ACTUALLY going to use to play the game of airsoft.. the Scar L wins hands down. |
I have the VFC SCAR Heavy and it is beautiful.
As far as I'm concerned 7.62mm is always better than 5.56mm. But finding mags for the Heavy version is tough so you will likely be stuck with Hi caps. They are obviously a BITCH when you are trying to be stealthy. |
