Fox news & ATF raise airsoft conversion concerns
[sarcasm]The sky is falling[/sarcasm]
"A FoxNews.com investigation reveals that a popular recreational pellet gun can be converted easily to a real semi-automatic weapon. And while the federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is already aware of the issue, these “toys” -- new, top-of-the-line airsoft rifles -- continue to be sold throughout the country." |
Here we go....

It's just the American sky we'll be fine; who knows maybe we'll even come out ahead.
|
This is only an issue for GBBR. It is not a major issue for AEGs. Im sure the companies will find a way to get around this problem.

They make immigrants sounds like hit men. WTF is wrong with these people.

FOX is late... this seizure was months ago...
and they are talking about using the WE m4 Lower receiver , modifying for a real trigger group .. and installing a Real upper on it |
Exactly I heard the WETTI's were banned in USA as a result of the ATF already

Let me know when someone film himself using his retrofited GBBR to fire real ammo. I wanna see the explosion!
|
according to that article they should also ban tape and carboard you can turn it into an ar lower as well ......*facepalm*
These things can barely handle propane without breaking down |
thing is...yes you could convert one over....BUT the cost would be crazy and not sure it would stand up to real ammunition being fired from it.
Lets be real, if you are in the US and want a gun that bad you will get one somehow rather then convert a toy over lol |
Actually
it's an easy conversion .. but the only thing left of the airsoft gun is a stripped lower and stock... everything else is real steel The issue is that all the parts for the conversion are freely available to anyone with no license needed ... the airsoft parts are used to replace the serial numbered lower receiver.. |
so...it still boils down to people having to buy 2/3 of a gun to make one that might last a few rounds.....
With that logic...anyone can build a gun from parts..... |
Now here's a funny question:
Are the after market lower receivers (7075 forged aluminium) for WETTI guns banned from importation in the US? If not, this is fucking ridiculous. |
It's fox news, do you really want to believe anything they say?
Remember this? YouTube- Nintendo DS is a target for child molestors |

Modifying the lower receiver by drilling a hole, the aluminum used for airsoft isn't 'high-grade' by doing that you're probably weakening the receiver as is, after modification maybe under one magazine of semi-auto would do...full auto?
I highly doubt it, we need to see fact sheets or demonstrations, not some dumb ATF agent trying to insert a magazine backwards. Quote:
In another thread it was clearly distinguished that he has the least clue about gun care, putting a GBBR through 10K rounds without lubing or cleaning is simply asking it to give out on you. If the WEs can handle the tough loving from wildcard it's not crapola. Of all the GBBRs within the mid-range pricing excluding Bomber/Inokatsu these work the best out of the box and don't feel like TOYS. The newer versions being released have made a long way since the Version 1s back in 2008? Regardless the modified Escort/Sun Project gas system is still more efficient than open bolt gas systems. We'll just have to see how VFC chalks up when they release their GBBRs. |
HEH Fox News...
You can convert anything into a gun on Fox News. |
DOUCHEBAG: Noun ~ Anyone that beleives this.
If a "gangsta" is gonna get a gun, they're gonna get it. They're not going to build one. That's dumb shit right there. |
With over 12 MILLION AR -15's alone in private hands in the U.S. why bother making your own, simply go to a gun show in about 30 states where you can by a long gun without ANY registration at all.

I would imagine those whose have the know-how to convert airsoft to deadly weapons, would have in-depth knowledge of real steels. They probably would have access to real steel anyway. Why even bother with airsoft?
|
I see two issues with this.
First of all, this could be an issue in Canada. If we can import the upper reciever and the rest of the gun (unrestricted parts, correct?), then us Canadians (who can't normally get access to "assault rifles") would be able to create one without a license to do so. Second of all, this could be an issue if using a WE reciever would enable full auto (although we haven't seen any evidence of this yet). Anyway, we all knew this was coming. |
all of you should really know what you're talking about before you say anything.
it is, in fact, simple to modify a GBBR OR an AEG into a bullet firing weapon. here it is... the DIY. be sure to write this down ASAP, as the Man will have it removed from the web within hours: 1) buy an airsoft gun. easier with a GBBR, and an AR type weapon would be best 2) replace the gun with a real steel gun (of the same weapon type) 3) paint the flash hider orange 4) fill in any serial numbers with bondo, or other fillers. 5) paint filler black to match the rest of the weapon 6) tell everyone it is an airsoft gun converted to fire bullets. there you go guys and girls. DONE! |
So instead of running the Soccer Mom Fear Machine, why don't they just issue the same regulations for the WETTI M4 that the real AR-15 has? Semi auto only, must have a 16" barrel, Magazine must be fixed and/or limited to so many rounds(in most states). It's not that hard, and would be easier to do than raiding warehouses and stores.
