Rubber Coated Mags?

i just got an idea :). i was wondering if anyone sells/makes magazines that are lined with rubber on the inside, to prevent "BB rattle". i did a quick search which returned nothing, so i got thinking. for RC's (remote controlled cars) i would but a thing called plasti dip to "waterproof" the electronics on the truck.so what i was thinking, has anyone ever tried this stuff in a mag before? im not exactly sure how the internals are setup in a mag but if they are all like the one i have seen, then you could maybe open them up, take a brush and brush on some plasti dip, giving the mag thin rubber walls, reducing the sound of BBs clanking against the metal or plastic. any thoughts?

Probably easier to just use midcaps... :P

Disco_Dante March 23rd, 2010 15:31

Midcaps are more fun and less hassle.

Outcast569 March 23rd, 2010 15:34

+1 for midcaps. +2 for real caps.

coach March 23rd, 2010 15:36

you'd be better off with midcaps. your dipped hicaps will still rattle.

I've never ran hicaps. Lows and mids only. I do like to use CA 130 round and S.Arms 170 round mags though.

braaaaapppppppppp.

Conker March 23rd, 2010 15:40

1. Throw your hicaps in the garbage
2. Buy lowcaps
3. ???
4. Enjoy airsoft (and not "speedsoft")

TaroBear March 23rd, 2010 16:02

I never understood highcaps. I hate the ones that come with guns. Since I've got a few guns that have transparent magazines, it's made all the worse. Plus, I've had bad experiences with high caps. They don't feed right all the time, winding that stupid wheel is frustrating.

pusangani March 23rd, 2010 16:04

hi-caps = 6mm paintball = fail

fuck hi-caps

No silly #4 is profit. Or is that somewhere in #3....hmmm....

But seriously, yes buy some lowcaps or midcaps. Much more fun and much more silent.

You don't want to be labelled a a tactical maraca tickler do you?

Donster March 23rd, 2010 16:11

real caps are retarded. get low-caps. perfect for airsoft.

pusangani March 23rd, 2010 16:13

Now now guys, whether you like Realcap, Lowcap or Midcap, we can ALL agree that hi-caps are gay :D

joke aside this plastic dip sounds interesting for other applications, like coloring a body, grips, etc...

hicaps have a single purpose (other than for a few guns with hard to find mags like an mc51)

they are to be used for testing your gun at home. it's 100% easier to wind a hicap mag and load it in the gun to fire of a few test rounds when in building or fixing mode.

Twin#1[Op-for] March 23rd, 2010 16:32

I have highcaps AND midcaps...but I have really been tempted to get staight midcaps soon. There is nothing better than someone slowly wakling towards the tree you'r behind saying "I'm gunna get you!" while you are fumbling a mag trying to reload.

If you put in that lining to prevent the bbs from hitting the inside, what's preventing the bbs hitting each other? Good idea but still will have the rattling. Just go with Mid caps.

yep, the thrill of reloading and letting your team mates know you are "gun down-reloading" etc.

try doing that while tickling your mags, not the same at all!

airsoft is about realism, running around in civvies and baseball sliding behind a bunker to tickle your mag isn't airsoft, it's speedsoft.

Styrak March 23rd, 2010 16:55

I think hicaps are OK for informal games/skirmishes etc but anything more than that lowcaps/midcaps are best.

Twin#1[Op-for] March 23rd, 2010 16:59

Agreed Styrak, I usually use my Hicap for the warmup games, for of a run and gun style, while for the scenarios later in the day, I prefer my Midcaps. I have yet to use realcaps, Maybe I should just try loading my Mids with only 30-40 and see how it goes :)

Outcast569 March 23rd, 2010 18:09

I love it with the mp5 7-8 realcaps + the pistol/knife and grenades is all I often use.

bingo! but he could shove baffles inside to minimize shifting around.

I love how people are always trying to find long winding ways to correct problems we already have solutions for.

lol, ya..... i thought of that right after i posted the thread, but decided not to change it. But like i said, I wasnt EXACTLY sure how magazines are set up, so I never thought mid caps or low caps would be any different than the one hicap i saw. Although now, it seems clear.

krap101 April 5th, 2010 23:06

Maybe we should dip the bb's in rubber? and stop using tightbores?

btw.. I'm kidding.

shiftline April 5th, 2010 23:13

I prefer low caps, but still have a high cap as a last resort

Same. I am against hicaps 100%, but if shit hits the fan, I'd rather use a hicap than not play.

The Chad April 5th, 2010 23:30

dip the BBs :|

JUST READ THE SIG!

Flea-ish April 5th, 2010 23:52

from the thread title i thought it meant rubber coating on the OUTSIDE of mags, which might not be such a bad idea...

Was thinking the same thing

would be interesting to see what it was like on the outside if done proper

coach April 6th, 2010 07:04

Re: Rubber Coated Mags?

If you coat the outside of a mag, you might have fitment issues especially with mag that are already too tight.

Dipping only the lower half will look ghey!

and make your mag pouches feel 10x smaller. But you'd have mucho grippage

and then bits of rubber coating shred off as you insert and remove mags from your pouch and look even uglier.

tip for the nubs: as stated before use the hicaps at home when plinking or testing. if you field a hicap as a last resort mag, you're still going to rattle all day long.

last resort? switch to secondary weapon. when you run out of ammo, you run out of ammo.

really? 100% against but would still use it? contradictory no?

Tugg April 7th, 2010 23:10

lol 90% :D

Rugger_can April 7th, 2010 23:16

What about makes and models that don't have low/mid caps? Lets say someone wants to take one that only has highcaps to a milsim game. Is that acceptable?

Hairu April 10th, 2010 16:55

I think my last resort would be going to knife and just being as sneaky as physically possible

The only guns I can think of that have hicaps only are MG's and the ICS Sig 552. So unless your rockin an ICS Sig, I dont think youll have any problems.

Hopefully you can work some magic on the Marui lowcap. But I suppose the entire ICS SiG line doesn't have any kind of lowcap. I heard a rumor about GG SiG Magazines going into the ICS just fine, but I can't confirm. Anyone know? I think the GG SiG magazines are hard enough to come by anywhere, much less in Canada.

DarkAngel April 18th, 2010 17:46

Saw a youtube vid of someone using a G&G Sig mag. Was gonna tell you tonite when you came by. I somehow dont put alot of weight behind it, seeing as how the ICS Retainer bit is on the front of the mag intead of the back like TM, JG, G&G and Mag Sig552 Mags.
