Is there any noticeable accuracy difference between the CQB version and the full length M4 version?

E.g. My assumption is that the full length M4 version is slightly more accurate. But since the CQB length comes with a RAS, I think it's a better value.

The CQB length (I chopped mine almost as soon as I got it) shot fine and had range...but the groups were large at max range. I'll see how a longer inner compares directly at the next field game.

If I had to restart and buy all over again...I'd get a CQBR (the new gen is very nice).

If I wanted to run a longer inner, I'd stick the 363mm in hide it with a flash hider.

........in fact, that's what I've just done to my rifle....I'll shoot it like that tomorrow.
- CQBR outer barrel...M4A1 inner...suppressor to cover inner.
or if I don't want to run the suppressor, I'll put the outer barrel extension on to make it look like a regular M4 barrel.

Tys,

When you say new gen, are you referring Gen 3?

m102404 May 7th, 2010 15:14

Yes...I suppose. The current gen of WE's that I'm seeing. Most common around here with the half clear lowers.

When I was describing the "gen3" a while ago...it wasn't really a full gen release...more like a gen 2.5 where just the nozzle/chamber was changed over to standardize with the new "CO2" version that came out with the SCAR.

The lastest ones are called Gen 3. In addition to the nozzle/chamber, they are supposed to come with the black hopup rubber, different finish on the bolt (nice), the forward assist now has a retaining screw (so it doesn't pop off) and probably some other bits that I've forgotten.

The RIS setups on the CQBR's is very, very nice.

For my rifle (a gen 2), the M4A1 rifle came with a 14.5" outer barrel that could be unscrewed and changed to a 10.5" barrel. Threading on both lengths was CCW.

On the Gen3 CQBR...I thought that it was CW...just wasn't sure. (I've actually got one in the workshop, but someone asked me a question and I couldn't remember off hand).

Gen 3 half clear CQBR's are CW.

Yea, this thing make me nut.
So, I use epox and glue the forward assist button, the forward assist body and the first 2 coil of the spring altogether and custom cut the spring a bit. It's working so far.

I'm interested to see how's that retaining screw and the bolt finished look like. Maybe I ask Lanny to show me next time.

m102404 May 7th, 2010 16:04

LOL...

I cross drilled mine and put a pin (really just a finishing nail cut to size) through it.

Shirley May 7th, 2010 17:56

Reason why you're seeing most half clears is because it has great reviews, and you only spend $500 instead of $1100 for a full metal one. heh'

Yeah, CW on new ones.

New clear ones have retaining screw, phillips screw.

Also, the finish on the new bolts are dark grey, no more black.

There is still the problem of the white collar holding the guide rod sliding forward.

-Trooper- May 7th, 2010 18:00

Most people just remove the stabilizer on the guide rod since it didn't serve much of purpose

Can anyone tell me if swapping mag shells with Magpul Mags is an easy conversion or is it more work than a simple swap out?

Has anyone found a reliable source to obtain a M4/M16 metal body?
