You guys probably shouldn't be chatting transactions outside of the Classifieds.

I've been looking at a G36 variant as well, I'm just a sucker for the style. I didn't realize that there were mag issues with them. What exactly is the issue?

Also, any feedback on the ICS G33? I can't seem to find the CA in stock anywhere.

I suppose different mag issues would depend on which brand, and AEG or GBB.
The only mag issue I know of, that they all have in common, is their dimensions; they're significantly larger than M4 mags, and so may not fit your vest/pouch/holder properly.

Since losing the magpul contract, pts has started making similar magpul styled mags for airsoft again but only for m4.

Well, this changes things somewhat. I never even knew there were G36 magpul mags, definitely looks good without unnecessary bulk. That said, $30+ for a single AEG mag? That's GBB territory there... one of the biggest attractions for AEGs (for me at least) are the cheap mags... I'll stick w/ my GBBR's until they make a cheap 5 pack.

There's no issues with the mags function wise, they feed fine from what I know (brand dependent). The problem is the bulk and size of G36 mags. You pretty much have to get dedicated pouches for it as your normal run of the mill double AK or AR mag pouches aren't large enough for them (will fit a single G36 mag I believe). Triple AR mag pouches will fit two, but all the random edges, corners and protrusions will usually snag something making reloads a bitch, hence the need for dedicated fat G36 pouches.

Going with a CA. Prices are decent. I'm going to get a real trades decal and the GP sniper stock for it. Just have to decide where to get it...

+2 for the CA g36 I bought one back in the day and another a year ago. They updated the design in 2010 and made a EBB version as well as the standard version. The body has been reinforced in a number of areas with thicker plastic and the plastic itself has changed (a minor change to the finish. it's hard to spot but you can if you know to look for it) The gas block assembly has been made thicker and various gearbox parts have been upgraded (better motor, selector plate now lacks the extra electrical safety, 8mm bearings as opposed to 6 mm bushings). The G36 also has one of the best designed hop up units I've ever seen.
As for mags, ya they're annoying. But I run PTS Pmags for the G36 and they fit and function beautifully. Buy them wherever you can. Sure they're like $24 each but you can jump on them and toss them across the yard with no damage. and they fit fine in most standard M4 style pouches ( I use HSGI TACO pouches).

Cool, thanks for the info. I noticed they seemed updated in a video that was in portuguese. He was obviously talking about the blowback and bolt release which I thought were new additions. I also thought pmags might be the way to go. I hate winding regular mags.

Well I just ordered my first AEG, got the ICS G33 in two-tone for a really solid price. I guess the two-tone scheme isn't very popular?

Regardless, I don't need to worry about G36 mags at least.

Is the CA36c bolt catch supposed to be functional? Mine doesn't appear to be. It seems some versions were. I can't find a straight answer anywhere...

lurkingknight January 5th, 2015 22:43

it catches if you push the lever down when it's pointing straight. Not sure if that's what it's supposed to do. But the bolt release has never worked. Ares makes use of the bolt release but only as a convoluted method of releasing the ARL to set the piston back forward. If it works at all. I've only ever gotten it to go once.

Glenzee January 5th, 2015 23:35

Thanks man, that seems to be how it's intended to work...

pestobanana January 5th, 2015 23:41

If you push it down the bolt is getting caught on the hop up unit. There is no intended bolt catch for the CA36.

lurkingknight January 6th, 2015 00:59

the charging handle bit will catch on the upper receiver just the lip, it won't touch the hopup unit.

Anyone know which is the most authentic looking mag with dummy rounds for a G36?
