I think the one in the video is more of a tool so that swat/whoever knows where the people in the room are based on the shadows cast.
You could probably pick up a couple XM-L LEDs on star boards(they're the ones used in the bright weaponlights), a couple LED drivers (i have no idea which model), and an arduino to control said drivers.
All that would be left would be (relatively) simple programming, wiring, and some simple thoughts on durability.

Would probably swing this by game control just incase of people suffering from epilepsy/seizures although

Want a good flashbang?

Go to a film development store (Shoppers, etc) and ask for their trash disposable cameras (ones with film removed and going to the 'recycling').

Charge em. Throw em. Flash.

That isnt really a flash bang tho thats a frag. And the enola geay ones are better.
That said i think what the op is looking for is more of a deployable led strobe to be used as a distraction device and to silouette targets in dark rooms.
Yes a flashlight works great for this BUT popping out round a corner with a flashlight also gets a hail of bbs sent your way. I know yesterday there where a few times when tossing one of these in door a while and entry team breached door b in the same room would have been effective. And alot more effective then rolling a flashlight into the room.

Edit.
I think this would be the most viable option for an airsoft light distraction device

Quoate
"if a flashbang is a 10 out of 10 the tactical ball is a 2 out of 10 but thats still twice as good as nothing"
I loled at that but again rolling this in one door while a team enters the other door would be far more effective then just bursting in.

I hate how Russia has the launchible tag grenades, and the US and UK has those pea grenades. I know we have to be safe with everything we do, but sometimes I feel like we are pussies. Just my bit.

Why is everyone (minus a few) being a complete dick to Swifty, he clearly asked for an airsoft safe alternative. For the drop the attitude comment, he was very polite and calm for the first while, and if I were in the same position I would get pretty frustrated after the 4th or so guy knocked on me the same way the others did without reading properly. I have lurked on here for a while, never really saw a need to post until I saw this, armchair experts that, to be frank, were douchebags to a guy asking an innocent question.

Depending on how bright they are, they would be good at lighting up dark rooms at night. Just put a weight on the un-illuminated side, so the illumination ends up facing upwards. If they're bright enough, and not too expensive, it could be useful.

Back to the flashbang thing; didn't you see the "One Thousand Ways to Die", where the Warden of a prison got high on PCP and had his head blown off by a flashbang? The "bang" part of the name means it explodes.... Explosions and flesh do not go well together.

tangent alert: I'm curious why there is a great deal of resistance to using these in Canada. Most Thunder B's are just as loud, so the whole notion of hear protection isn't necessarily a valid argument IMO with that regard. I can see people not wanting to use these in dry outdoor areas for fear of fire, however large facilities like PRZ are a great place to use these. I know people had many complaints about these after Nightfall 1 which I found to be a tad silly. Frankly I was terrified of these after I had one go off in the hall outside a room I was in. Damn near shit myself and had my ears ringing for a few seconds, but wouldn't have had it any other way.

I have to meet hearing requirements to keep my job and I'm not comfortable with having loud things explode near me, at least without hearing protection. But that's just my own experience, don't know how well that translates to others.

+1.
I'm not comfortable with anything exploding around or near me.

That LED ball is pretty cool, and I'm sure I know a way to make an even brighter one for airsoft purposes. Maybe I should draw one up on autocad or something.

You should check out the enola gaey airsoft frag grenades they look sweet. Been tryin to get the guys from rocket fireworks to bring em in for me but who knows if they will. Wouldnt wanna use em in verry dry areas without some testing first but again they are sweet lookin.

Hectic: I don't, then again at the typical game I go to you rarely hear something louder than a GBBR. I don't have an issue with something like a Thunder B being used for an objective or marker in a game, but I'm not a fan of having it used against me, especially in CQB where the blast gets magnified.

necro warning

I have started working on one of these myself for indoor play. It will have a serious of high output leds synced in a random flashing pattern with a 5 second delay from when the switch is turned on and a delay of 30 seconds before it turns off. It will all be stuffed in a clear ball. the leds I am using are blinding bright and in a dark room flashing about would certainly throw someone off.
fingers crossed it works.
